INSTALLS ALTRO FLOORING IN MORE THAN 70 BATHROOMS
The Residencia de la Caridad de Santander care home is undertaking a major
refurbishment of 40 of its bathrooms, fitting them with Altro ImpressionistTM II /
IP20 flooring. The company had already been chosen for the refurbishment of 32
bathrooms in the building, which were fitted with Altro MarineTM 20 / T20.
The Residencia La Caridad de Santander is a first-rate nursing home that demands the best for
its facilities and for its residents. It has all of the necessary facilities: infirmary, multipurpose
hall, gym, visitors room, technical support, garden, lounge, bathroom for the elderly, yard,
television room, chapel, reception, library, individual kitchen, balcony, chapel of rest, cognitive
stimulation therapy, individual

registered
nurse),
physiotherapy, individual psychology service, occupational therapy, therapeutic message,
social worker, personalised diet, accompanying service, religious service, newspapers and
magazines, manuals, conferences, outings, theatre, choir, festivities and dances, volunteer
service, laundry, manicures, clothing alterations, hairdressers and chiropody, among others.
The company's Chairman, Mr. Ramón Sánchez, confirmed the main reason for choosing the
company. “We have been working with Altro for ten years, and we have chosen them
again mainly because of the convenience for our residents”.
The bathrooms, on three-storeys of the Residencia de la Caridad building, have been fitted
with Altro ImpressionistTM II / IP20, especially designed for surfaces with a high level of traffic
and noted for being easy-clean. In a previous refurbishment, 32 bathrooms were fitted with
Altro MarineTM 20 / T20. Overall, around 900m2 of this nursing home features the leading slipresistant floor covering in the market.
Jesús del Tío, from the fitting company Decoraciones Honorato, explains that they decided to
use Altro floors again for this refurbishment because, “it is without a doubt the best slipresistant floor and has a quality like no other”. That is why they have also used Altro in
the Residencia San José (Torrelavega), Residencia Quijas (Quijas), Residencia San Francisco
(Reinosa), Residencia San Pedro (Astillero) and Residencia Obra San Martín (Santander)
nursing homes.
After 15 years of fitting its centres with Altro, a year-and-a-half ago, this company became the
official distributor of the brand, which is the favourite among nursing homes and day centres.
According to Jesús del Tío, “although it is a more exclusive product, we choose Altro
quality for our clients’ well being and safety”.
Altro, unrivalled safety and cleanliness
Since safety is a priority in care homes, Altro designs its products with that objective in mind.
However, there are other factors that the brand always takes into account: hygiene, durability
and aesthetics.
To achieve this, Altro ImpressionistTM II / IP20 uses a 2mm thick surface and incorporates
bacteriostat for enhanced hygiene. The easy cleaning of this product is one of its most highly
valued attributes. Also, the inclusion of coloured chips within a matching background enables
adjacent floor and wall finishes to be coordinated, resulting in a modern, cheerful design. This
is important for residents in these types of centres, since they spend most of their time inside
the building. Ramón Sánchez highlights the fact that “Altro is wonderful in terms of
aesthetics, because the choice of colours is endless”.
Altro MarineTM 20 / T20 is one of the most well-known products for its unbeatable slipresistance, due to the absence of joints and holes on the surface. It is also 2mm thick and
incorporates bacteriostat for enhanced hygiene. Its high slip-resistance is certified as Class 2
pursuant to the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE) regulations. This code establishes the
level of slip-resistance that floors must feature depending on the area and uses (CTE-DB SU-1)
of the surface.
Both floors are highly recommended for showers, changing rooms and bathrooms, because all
of these are areas in which people might walk barefoot or with wet feet.
Outstanding results
In both the previous refurbishment and the current one, Ramón Sánchez claims that they are
very happy with the results and states that the installation process was “quick, convenient
and straightforward”. He adds, “I would not hesitate to recommend Altro to other
nursing homes and day centres”.
