COURSE DESCRIPTION This three day course takes an in depth view of the role of fascia as the tensional network of the human body. An anatomical review of the four primary layers of fascia and their assessment and treatment will be presented. Extensive hands-on lab time will be spent in diagnosing and working up through the pelvis and spine to the head. A novel postural loading assessment tool will be presented to assist the student in determining the primary area of fascial restraint/dysfunction in the body. The course will finish with the student learning how to restore postural balance to maintain the gains made with fascial release treatment. COURSE OBJECTIVES For the student: **To have a better understanding of the anatomy and regional interdependence of the fascia and the role of the fascia as an organ of communication. **To learn about the four primary layers of fascia. **To be introduced to the use of postural loading as an assessment tool in determining the primary area of fascial dysfunction in the body. **To learn a variety of objective tests to help confirm the location of the primary fascial dysfunction in the body. **To learn new fascial assessment and release techniques for the lower extremities, pelvis and low back, thoracic spine and rib cage, upper extremities and neck and head. **To learn how to restore postural balance in standing and sitting to reinforce the gains made with fascial release. COURSE INSTRUCTOR Mr. Bookhout received his Certificate in Physical Therapy from the Mayo Clinic in 1977 and his Master’s Degree in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from the Institute of Graduate Health Sciences in Atlanta, Georgia in 1982. In April of 1983, he co-founded Physical Therapy Orthopaedic Specialists, Inc., a private practice physical therapy clinic which specializes in evaluation and treatment of spinal dysfunction. Mr. Bookhout has taught numerous courses throughout the United States since 1981. He is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. In 1992, Mr. Bookhout developed a course on exercise as a compliment to manual medicine as part of the Michigan State Continuing Medical Education Program.
