Public Opinion Project Director
The Williams Institute, a national think tank on sexual orientation law and gender identity law
and public policy, is launching a new research project on public opinion data and research related
to LGBT people and issues.
The goal of the LGBT public opinion project is to collect all related research in a searchable,
comprehensive, and current database; analyze the data in reports and publications; provide
assistance with ongoing research to eliminate unnecessary duplication, implement best practices
more broadly, and standardize questions when appropriate; identify research gaps; and to ensure
the broad and considered use of the data and analysis.
The Williams Institute Public Opinion Project Director is primarily responsible for designing and
developing a comprehensive database and collection of LGBT-related public opinion data. Duties
will include collecting public opinion data, building a database, recoding and overseeing the entry
of data into the database, analyzing data, and conducting and supporting research and
publications using the data.
Requirements:

Knowledge of LGBT-related public opinion research, issues, and methodologies
required.

Ability to conduct research and provide analyses resulting in insightful reports on LGBTrelated public opinion.

Minimum of three years of relevant work experience with academic, research, nonprofit,
or consulting organizations, with increasing responsibility.

Demonstrated experience in project development, with prior experience in the design of a
large database and management of data collection preferred.

Previous experience working with surveys and large data sets, including: ability to
present statistical information in a clear and concise manner, and experience in survey
instrument design, development and testing.

Knowledge of one or more professional statistical software programs. Excellent computer
skills with proficiency in operating a Windows-based personal computer with electronic
mail (Outlook), word processing (Word), presentation (PowerPoint) and spreadsheet
(Excel) software packages, as well as familiarity with the Internet.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Must be able to form strong relationships
and partnerships across multiple researchers and organizations.
