terms – the DH-Data Thesaurus
No website available. The first edition of DHSS-Data was published
in 1985 and was based on the Bliss Classification scheme 2 nd
edition. The 2nd edition of the DH/DSS- Data Thesaurus was
published in 1993 and the 3rd was published in 2002, which is
markedly different from the earlier editions. The thesaurus structure
has been completely revised and includes the entire HMIC thesaurus
at its central core, with over 2000 new terms added and 400 terms
deleted. The remaining DH/DSS Data Thesaurus terms have been
built around this core and several new terms resulting from changes
in the NHS in recent years have been added. Many of the social
security terms have been removed following the separation of the
Department of Health and the Department of Social Security.

Newcastle Index/NHS Direct
No website available. NHS Direct Online uses an indexing system
developed by Health Information staff in the call centres. It's called
the Newcastle Index, as development was lead by some people in
the Newcastle call centre. Newcastle offers the potential to link
information on the website to data held in the health information
database used by the call centres. The Newcastle Index is sometimes
called the DORIS index as it's an integral part of DORIS (Database
of Resources Information & Services).
