Have the child write three of their own. 2. Copy “rebus words” and tape it into the child’s opus. Have the child answer them and come up at least 2 of their own. 3. Draw yourself on your favorite carnival ride. 4. Draw the boy in the story at the carnival, and riding his favorite ride. Introduction 1. Show the child a picture from the book. Tell them that the boy in this story went to the carnival with his mom. Ask them what they like to do at the carnival. Say, “Let’s read and see what the boy liked most.” 2. Show the child the “carnival” picture in the back of the book. Ask the child to point out the 5 things that are wrong. Ask the child what they would do is they went to the carnival and things were messed up. Say, “Today we are going to read about a boy that goes to the carnival with his mom. Let’s see what happens.” 3. Make a carnival ticket out of construction paper and have it lying on the table. Ask the child what they think the ticket could be used for. Say, “Today we are going to read about a carnival.
