Director/Performer
Philadelphia Fringe Festival
June 2006-June 2007
Two years ago I worked on two projects with Philadelphia-based companies. I
co-directed “Speak, Mascot” for Workshop for Potential Movement, a physical
theater company. “Speak, Mascot” is an original work, created and performed
by the ensemble, a way of working that is relatively new to me. This premiered
at the 2006 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. I was also a performer/creator in
another piece that premiered at the 2006 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Headlong
Dance Theater’s CELL, a performance journey for one audience member at a
time guided by cell phone. CELL embodies several trends in contemporary
performance (participation, intimacy, site-based work) that have interested me
for years. Both of these projects are different from the stage work I usually
create; they challenged me and broadened my horizons. Over the summer of
2007, I toured with Headlong’s CELL to the New Haven Festival of Arts and
Ideas and this coming summer, I plan to direct Workshop for Potential
Movement’s next original work.
