MYTS BUGSY MALONE 2016 Bugsy Malone is set in New York during the 1920’s. Costumes and scenery will reflect this period in time and all the actors will have an American accent. We are setting within the framework of a 1920’s Art Deco cinema which will also act to project different scenes. Additional to this MYTS members will film certain scenes and make their own trailers for “1920’s style” movies playing as the audience come in and during the interval. During MYTS please tick by your name the part or parts you wish to audition for. Please note that some parts are boy only, some are girl only and some are either. The joy of “Bugsy Malone” is the amount of parts in the show, many more than the characters that will be auditioned. If you want to be considered for one of the smaller parts then put this down as well. Every member of MYTS will play an active part in the production of Bugsy Malone. You will all have a specific character to play and will be expected to research and perform to that character. To be perfectly honest, I’m beginning to wonder what’s going on myself….I mean this play’s only just started and already the stage is full of stiffs! Oh, by the way, you’re probably wondering who I am. My name’s Malone, Bugsy Malone. With an Italian mother and an Irish father I’d naturally grown up a little confused. I didn’t see much future as a spaghetti waiter at Mama’s Login’s or pushing a pen at City Hall., so I’d drifted from this to that, you know, walking the line, trying hard not to fall either side…until, that is, the night I walked in here to Pop Becker’s Book Store. BUGSY MALONE - SONG Down and Out You don't have to sit around Complaining 'bout the way your life has wound up Think of all the time you waste And time's a precious thing to let go by Sure you've hit the bottom But remember you'll be building from the ground up Ev'ry day's another step That takes you even closer to the sky, so give a try MYTS BUGSY MALONE 2016 BLOUSEY BROWN - SCENE (On the phone) Hello. Is Bugsy there, please? (pause) Bugsy is that you? What are you doing there? We said eight-thirty and you’re an hour late…Something came up? Like what?...Oh yeah, business with Tallulah?...Did you get the tickets?...You promised me, Bugsy. You promised me. An hour I’ve been waiting here, Bugsy, and when first you didn’t show I gave you the benefit of the doubt and then I got nervous and called every pool hall drive in the phone book. They hadn’t seen you but, boy, did they all know you…(hears Tallulah in background) You rat. You two timin’ bog Irish meatball! (she slams phone down) BLOUSEY BROWN - SONG Ordinary Fool Only a fool, like fools before me I always think with my heart Only a fool, that same old story Seems I was born for the part It's a lesson that I've learned And a page I should have turned I shouldn't cry, but I do Like an ordinary fool When her ordinary dreams fall through MYTS BUGSY MALONE 2016 FAT SAM/ FAT SAM’S GANG - SCENE No, wait honey! Wait. (he turns to Knuckles) We act like a normal, right? So acting normal means acting normal. (Out of door) We’ll be right there, honey. Make yourself comfortable. We’ll be a couple of minutes. Go powder your nose or something. (Closes door) See, just like normal. That way they won't know were scared to death…er, I don't mean scared I mean, er… concerned. We buy ourselves a little time. Thinking time, right Knuckles? Come over here, I'm gonna send for someone to help us out of our little predicament. No ten cent dummy, you hear. A specialist. Off his trolley, mad as a Hatter Bergonzi, the best man in Chicago. Right. Here’s what we do. (he snatches back the photo) we arrange a meeting with Dandy Dan. Bergonzi will be in the back of the car, next to me. Knuckles you drive…You don’t drive? You motzah head! FAT SAM/ FAT SAM’S GANG - SONG Bad Guys We could've been anything that we wanted to be But don't it make your heart glad That we decided, a fact we take pride in We became the best at being bad We could've been anything we wanted to be With all the talent we had No doubt about it, we whine and we tout it We're the very best at being bad guys We're rotten to the core And my congratulations no one likes you any more Bad guys, we're the very worst Each of us contemptible, we're criticised and cursed We made the big time, malicious and mad We're the very best at being bad MYTS BUGSY MALONE 2016 TALLULAH - SCENE (Tallulah walks up to Bugsy) Suddenly everyone wants to be in show business. Fat Sam’s busy Bugsy. Why don't you have a drink while you're waiting? (to the girls hanging around) O.K. girls, go feed the ducks. (they don’t move) I said beat it! Long time no see Bugsy. You used to come and see me every night. (getting irritated by Fizzy dancing in the background) Fizzy! Will you quit dancing and hit the shoe leather? (back to Bugsy) You’re aces, you know that Bugsy? I've always found you kind of special. (He does not respond) Come on Bugsy, give a girl a break. Oh, Bugsy, you're not like all those other saps. You've got lovely brown eyes (she makes her move) Come on sugar, how about smearing my lipstick? This is the caper that's gonna take the lid off City Hall. This is the big one. The shakedown. This is the payoff. It's got to be good. Got to be neat. Got to be quick. (the gang have been repeating everything he says) Quit repeating everything I say! (pause) You shouldn't have any trouble. Just Sam and a few dancehall girls. (The HOODS laugh.) Remember when you get inside that speakeasy, keep those fingers pumping because it's history you'll be writing. (His gang give him a cheer). Too kind, guys. Too kind. Now for Fat Sam's Grand Slam. DANDY DAN/ DANDY DAN’S GANG - SONG BAD GUYS We could've been anything that we wanted to be But don't it make your heart glad That we decided, a fact we take pride in We became the best at being bad We could've been anything we wanted to be With all the talent we had No doubt about it, we whine and we tout it We're the very best at being bad guys We're rotten to the core And my congratulations no one likes you any more Bad guys, we're the very worst Each of us contemptible, we're criticised and cursed We made the big time, malicious and mad We're the very best at being bad MYTS BUGSY MALONE 2016 FIZZY - SCENE Night Miss Tillie. Night Miss Loretta. (Bangles kisses him, much to his pleasure) Night Miss Bangles! (starts whistling the tune to Tomorrow then starts a tap dance routine, notices Fat Sam) Sorry Boss. Er Boss, er, how about my audition? You said come back tomorrow….But today is tomorrow, Mr Sam (reacts to Fat Sam shouting at him). Er, boss, careful the floor is wet (runs away from Fat Sam) FIZZY - SONG Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow, as they say Another working day and another chore Tomorrow An awful price to pay I gave up yesterday But they still want more They are bound to compare me To Fred Astaire when I'm done Anyone who feels the rhythm Movin' through em Knows it's gonna do em good To let the music burst out When you feel assured Let the people know it Let your laughter loose Until your scream Becomes a love-shout, ah MYTS BUGSY MALONE 2016 CAGEY JOE/ LEROY SMITH - SCENE Hi, Bugsy. But I’ll tell you now, he’ll be no good unless he’s got “it”. “It” is the difference between being a no-hoper slugger and being a champion. It’s what makes a fighter special. If you haven’t got “it”, you just haven’t got it. CAGEY JOE/ LEROY SMITH - SONG So You Wanna Be A Boxer So you wanna be a boxer In the golden ring Can you punch like a south-bound freight train?
