STEM & Built Environment Careers Database
Please find enclosed a useful list of initiatives, projects, resources and websites which can help your school explore STEM and
Built Environment career options. The list is split into two sections. Section 1 is projects, resources and websites that are available
UK-Wide and section 2 is those only available in the Yorkshire and South Yorkshire area. To help use the list, please refer to the
key below. The list was correct at the time we prepared it, but things do change. Please let us know of corrections needed and if
you know of other initiatives that should be on our database. We will update it annually. Our database aims to reflect our interest in
widening the participation of girls in STEM.

Acclaim
The acclaim project aims to raise young people's
awareness of leading scientific research and the
achievement of scientists in Britain today. The Acclaim
project will help highlight and promote the underlying
role science and scientific research has on the future
health and prosperity of the nation thus raising the
profile of science and scientific research in schools. In
essence this should encourage pupils with a negative
view of science to begin to understand the fascination
behind the subject and the unquestionable influence
science has on the future of our society.

Women of
NASA
The Women of NASA resource was developed to
encourage more young women to pursue careers in
math, science, and technology. Throughout history,
women have made valuable contributions to these
fields. Although these disciplines are still dominated by
men, and these women are seen as exceptions, there is
a growing appreciation of cultural and gender diversity in
the workplace. The Women of NASA interactive project
showcases outstanding women who are enjoying
successful careers and demonstrates how these women
balance personal and professional responsibilities

Yorkshire
Widening Participation projects are delivered by WISET
with funding from various WP bodies in order to help
assist in the under representation of girls and women in
SET related higher education. The projects deliver a
wide range of hands on activities and resources to
promote SET to girls and women together with follow up
work to assist progression and embed good practice.
This includes girl's days, school girl conferences, girls'
clubs, role models, case studies, promotional resources
such as careers videos, posters and work with other
specialist groups from around the UK.
