Paired with RNSG 446 This course utilizes the theoretical and clinical experiences that the student has had throughout the ADN program. The focus of the course is clinical performance in the three Roles of Practice. The student functions as the nurse responsible for the delivery and management of client care for a group of patients in the acute care setting. The student will be paired with an R.N. Preceptor who will be a one-to-one role model/facilitator/evaluator/resource person for the student. The student will be scheduled for approximately five (5) weeks of the preceptor's usual full-time work scheduled and shift, and progressively become competent in performing all the usual tasks and responsibilities of an R.N. By the midpoint of the experience, the student should be functioning as is expected of an entry level ADN graduate, needing only suggestions, direction, and supervision from the preceptor to complete all usual and expected tasks and duties correctly, safely, and on time. Preceptors are selected collaboratively by the course faculty and the clinical agency for their clinical competence, quality of nursing practice, communication skills, and desire to work closely with students as role models and teachers.
