Training Courses attended by Staff of The Laboratory F-4 F-1 1. Introduction In order to carry out their duties, efficiently and competently, administrative and support staff who work in a highly specialised area like mathematical science must have extensive knowledge of a range of sophisticated software packages to meet the demands of a multitude of academic staff with differing mathematical expertise, and, as well, provide appropriate assistance to a large body of students. It is essential that such staff acquaint themselves with a variety of word-processing packages, both technical and ordinary, such as Latex and Word, respectively, and keep abreast of rapidly changing computer technology. Both The School and The Laboratory are very conscious of this, and encourage and support their staff to avail of every opportunity to update and extend their knowledge of technical innovations, in the certain knowledge that this will enhance the quality of service provided by them. The information supplied below clearly indicates that staff in both units have a strong commitment to learn new ways to implement standard office procedures, and a keen desire to acquire new skills, such as web-mastering, thereby contributing handsomely to the efficient running and management of both units. This attitude is much appreciated by both The School and The Laboratory. 2.
