As you scan through the pages, you'll find many additions as well as entries from our previous catalogue. To make it easier to find what you need, we've included a table of contents. Since its beginning in 1977, Horizons for the Blind has worked very hard to make cultural, recreational and quality-of-life experiences more accessible and interesting for those of us who are blind or visually impaired. This catalogue of materials is a part of these "access" activities. Many of us have gone shopping or have had articles read with exciting information about crafts or recipes--all of which are unavailable to us. People who are sighted very often pick up a little book, glance through it, and either use or collect the information. This opportunity is rarely available to us. Horizons' catalogue cannot possibly answer all needs. But this collection of materials does begin to bridge that gap. All materials are currently available in braille and large print. Prices for both formats are the same. We hope you enjoy our catalogue as much as we like putting it together. We are constantly adding new titles, so be sure to keep track of future issues. And, let us hear from you! We would like to know your preferences. You can help to build our collection to include your favorite items. HOW TO ORDER Send us a list in braille or print of the items you choose. PLEASE BE SURE TO TELL US WHETHER YOU WANT BRAILLE OR LARGE PRINT. Include the following information: 1. Name. 2. Address. 3. Phone number (in case we have questions). 4. List each item with its catalogue number and cost. 5. Your reading preference (braille or large print). 6. Include your check for the total amount in U.S. currency, including shipping and handling (from chart below) payable to "Horizons for the Blind". 7. You may also pay with your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. Call us toll-free at (800) 318-2000. Be sure to have your credit card number and expiration date ready when you place your call, or you may place your order online at www.horizons-blind.org 8. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. SHIPPING COSTS Please select the method of shipping carefully. Since orders shipped via Free Matter for the Blind cannot be traced, Horizons cannot be responsible for delivery of these orders. All reorders for undelivered items shipped via Free Matter, will be charged a second time. For these reasons, all orders will be shipped via UPS unless Free Matter is specified at the time the order is received. For UPS shipments, please include shipping and handling charges from the chart below. Remember, UPS will not ship to a P.O. Box. It will only ship to a street address. How a teenager at a Brother Rice High School sock hop left her mark in a very unusual place on a member of Paul Revere and The Raiders! Or, the story of Larry Lujack and how a crazed pilot (me!) left him ashen white and speechless while high over Chicago! Or, a naughty girl named “Gloria” and what she did in her bedroom that helped her become rich and famous! And, last, but not least how the Monkees rode the “Last Train to Clarksville” and almost made a monkey out of themselves! I’m Mother Weber’s oldest son Clark. I was very much a part of your rock and roll musical scene in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. As the Program Director and Disc jockey at WLS radio in Chicago, I chose the music that was played on that 50,000 watt rock and roll giant. The Amish represent a simple, faith-filled throwback to a quieter time in America, a respite from the buzz saw world of the 21st century. In the Amish, for better or worse, we find evidence of what we used to be. As the Amish cling to their reclusive ways, plowing their fields with horse-drawn plows as scores of their forefathers have done before, we find ourselves ever more interested in these living links to another time and place. Step foot in any Amish community and you'll find cookbooks cobbled together by women in the church. Cooking is a favorite pastime among Amish women, sharing recipes, trying new foods, and perfecting old ones. As with most things the Amish create, this book is plain and simple, in keeping with their customs. If you're wanting a fancy photo-filled cookbook with color charts and beef burgundy recipes, this is not the book for you. This book is filled with hearty, homey recipes with plenty of the quirks and idiosyncrasies which come in a unique Amish cookbook. This book is organized a bit like the recipe files found in most Amish women's kitchens-haphazard and chaotic, but delicious! You'll find many culinary treasures on these pages. So enjoy the journey. Hopefully many of the recipes in this book will become your family's favorites also. 428 pages SYLVIA'S KITCHEN, BY SYLVIA WALDSMITH: CB63 (2 volumes); $22.70 This cookbook offers you some simple, yet wonderful offerings from Sylvia's kitchen and were created for the cooking show of the same name. The fact that it's almost indestructible and is treasured as a family heirloom lasting for generations, only underscores its remarkable value. Mrs. Fay Marsh perhaps says it best when referring to her pineapple upside-down cake, "I made this cake in a skillet that my husband purchased from Lodge in 1932 for 38 cents. That black iron skillet has never rusted and remains slick as a ribbon. I would love to see everything that I have cooked in it for the last 70 years. That is a lot of Good Eatin’!” A Skillet Full is not only a primer on the making of Southern cornbread, but a sumptuous, mouth-watering collection of Southern comfort foods. Cracklin' cornbread, crispy fried chicken, bubbling Brunswick stew, piping hot jambalaya, pan-fried okra, fried green tomatoes, and bread pudding laden with Tennessee bourbon sauce.
