Mark Zimmerman
Resort Manager
December 7, 1985, 25 years ago, I
started my employment at OVI.
First as the Controller, then
Operations Manager for the resort
and finally as the Resort Manager
in 1992.
My plan in the 80s never addressed
being in the timeshare business, it
just happened. I was a CPA with
McClintock Accountancy Corp.
and OVI was a client. Ultimately, I
was hired by the client which
happens frequently in the CPA
world.
Fortunately, I have been
surrounded by many good people
on the Board of Directors and
employees.
A couple of philosophies have
prevailed throughout the years.
Working with David Long, my
Assistant Resort Manager, we do
whatever it takes to help an
employee succeed and not fail.
Many of us have worked together
Seeing The Bigger Picture:
A Trip Worth Taking
The trip is an occasion, a
brief moment that has the
potential to endure a
lifetime. Of all the things we
are provided there is nothing
more precious than time, embracing a broader vision and
giving testimony to the tale of "seeing the bigger picture". It
is a tale that prevails from its origins of antiquity. There is a
story that beautifully illustrates this quality:
One day a traveler came across three stone cutters. Each
was busy cutting a block of stone. As the traveler asked of
their pursuits, each one responded differently. Asking the
first stone cutter, "I am cutting stone" was the reply. Still no
wiser he turned to the second man who said, "I am cutting
this stone to make sure it's square, and its dimensions are
uniform." Still unclear, the traveler turned to the third man.
When asked what he was doing replied: "I am building a
cathedral.”
This story often appears as part of management and
leadership seminars as a building block for leadership. But
we can see its value in our everyday endeavors, seeing a
vision and a sense of the bigger picture and an
understanding of the whole and not just its parts.
"I felt like this was the first day, and this morning was the
first time the sun had ever come up, and the shadows that
are being cast right now is the first time those shadows
have ever been cast on the earth. And I was alone, but I felt
I was in the presence of everything around me, and I was
never alone.”

Burn's "The National Parks"

President’s
Report
Michael Harper
President
It appears that winter has arrived
early in the Sierra Mountains. After
a relatively warm September and
an unusually warm October and
first week of November; I now see
out of my window in Reno nearly
ten feet of snow blanketing the
mountains! With all the ski resorts
now open, there is no better place
to enjoy the Sierra's winter sports
than OVI!
For those of you unable to attend
the Annual meeting at the end of
September, I would like to
highlight some issues that were
discussed. First, incumbent board
members Joseph Cusick, Brad
Hartman, Sr. and Alan Traenkner
were reelected to two-year terms.
They were the only homeowners
who ran for the Board. If you are
ever interested in running for the
Board of Directors, please do not
hesitate to contact me through our
Resort Manager, Mark
Zimmerman.

Reservations In the Know
It's beginning to feel a lot like
Christmas!!! Already the
mountains have received nearly ten
feet of snow and I have gone from ice tea to hot cocoa. As I
look out my window at the snow frozen to the fall-colored
leafs that remain I contemplate a busy winter season.
The mountains are inviting the Christmas spirit and I am
sure snow men are anxiously awaiting the children. With so
many fun things to do in the winter like skiing, ice skating,
snowshoeing or just sitting around a fire and reading a good
book, having the perfect place to go is half the battle. Guess
what? You do!

New Beginnings
– Greg R Rankin, Resort Realty Services, Inc.
Here we find ourselves at the end of another year.
Sometimes endings are good, sometimes not. Sometimes
endings are sad, sometimes happy. Endings also represent a
time of new beginnings. While this past year has been
challenging for many people, here in Squaw Valley and the
North Tahoe/Truckee area, this year has also brought
changes that appear to offer exciting new beginnings.
As for new beginnings we have many. We are starting this
winter's ski season, before Thanksgiving, with nearly ten
feet of cold, mid-winter like, powder snow. Truly, the best
start to a Sierra ski season in over 30 years!

Timeshare Resale Scam Alert
Be aware, if you are working with a company to resell your
ownership. This includes paying a third party company to
“take over your ownership”.

Many of these companies are conducting scams and never
actually transfer the ownership. This results in the
ownership still being in your name and you still being liable
for the annual dues. Be sure to research any of these
companies very thoroughly.

Resort Manager's Report (continued)
Throughout the years I've come to recognize the constants that
make the timesharing world so desirable. You consistently
enjoy beautiful resorts and great accommodations when you
travel. Ownership "forces" you to vacation regularly which
otherwise tends to slip away, year after year. Also, your
options for travel are extensive and present destinations you
may have otherwise never considered.
I hope you and your family have acquired many happy
memories with OVI over the past quarter century!
Sincerely,
Mark Zimmerman, Resort Manager

President's Report (continued)
In the President's report I reviewed our dues over the last five years
and a dues comparison with other Northern California resorts
(Homeowner Dues
Comparison); we compare very favorably. Also reviewed were
reserve expenditures that have been recently completed: kitchen
improvements, boiler replacement, new mattresses, spas and other
repairs. For the next couple of years the board has elected to
concentrate on infrastructure improvements (roofs, gutters and
heaters in the rooms). Granite in the kitchen and flat screen TVs
will be deferred. I also noted that as a resort that employs in-house
management and not an outside corporation, we are in a much better
position to be more responsive to our Owners and guests. My report concluded with a ceremony
honoring retiring Max Stevens for his exceptional service to OVI ñ job well done!
Mark reviewed the Audited Financial Statements which reported that OVI operated a $38,000
improvement to budget. We have a $129,000 operating fund surplus and $542,000 in our reserve
fund.
On our website we have posted questions and answers that were addressed at the meeting.
A footnote to the Annual Meeting is that next year the meeting will, again, be held on the last
Saturday in September. The following year (2012) and forward we will schedule the Annual
Meeting on the first Saturday in October to avoid various event conflicts in the area. We're
providing this notice now so that if you intend to reserve time for the 2012 meeting, you will have
adequate time to make those reservations. One other note, commencing in 2011, you will be able
to make lunch reservations for the Annual Meeting through an e-mail to the resort.
My wife and I wish you and your family the best over the holidays.
Sincerely,
Michael Harper, President

Seeing The Bigger Picture:
A Trip Worth Taking (continued)
For the Tahoe region of the central Sierra Nevada, climate and
weather prediction authorities have issued a La Nina advisory
well into spring of 2011. The long range forecast for
December through March is calling for above normal
precipitation in the Pacific Northwest and below average for
Southern California, with the Central Sierra somewhere in the
middle. According to renowned Tahoe historian, author and
lecturer Mark McLaughlin:
“The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde characteristics of La Nina will keep long range forecasters guessing
as we move well into the winter months. If storm activity gets going in December, it might well
bode for a strong winter season.”
The winter season of 2010-2011 will once again be full of goings-on to fulfill your mountain
adventure. Notable changes at Squaw Valley U.S.A. include: Improvements to snowmaking, a
renovated Squaw Kids Children's Center, base and mid-mountain facility enhancements, new
Village shops, and additional state-of-the-art slope grooming machines. Special events will include
two weeks of holiday celebrations, ski the mountain opportunities with Olympic Gold Medalist
Jonny Moseley, and the Snowfest winter carnival. As spring emerges we will be looking forward
to the 2011 Amgen Tour of California professional cycling event set to start in Lake Tahoe
beginning May 15th. The second stage is projected to begin from Squaw Valley.
When it comes to activities and the guest experience, the best place to be is the Olympic Village
Inn. Let our experienced staff help you enjoy Tahoe's many opportunities and magical moments.
Guided ski and snowshoe outings are a traditional guest favorite. In addition, enjoy a wide range
of social and creative activities to enhance an unforgettable stay.
“A photograph is usually looked at ñ seldom looked into.”
– Ansel Adams
“For many people in the world, the landscape before us would be foreboding. For us, it had been
a gradual ascent from the unknown into the familiarÖ we no longer saw strange human alterings
of the scene, but rather the workings of nature common to all the world's alpine areas: glaciers,
rivers,... clouds, granite, blue sky, raindrops, wildlife, and friends who share our passions. We
were home again.”
– Galen Rowell
It is a trip worth taking. Have a vision and a sense of the bigger picture, and an understanding that
a conviction will endure, whether in the stone of a cathedral, or in the impact made on others. I
look forward to your return...

Reservations In the Know (continued)
As an Owner here at Olympic Village Inn you are guaranteed
time here over the general public. Whether it's your timeshare
week, Bonus Time or just renting a few days to come and ski
ñ"Your Resort" awaits you. In this changing economy it seems
like people are staying closer to home and taking more "mini
vacations"! Olympic Village Inn has become a desired
destination and for many reasons. We have a little piece of
paradise right here in beautiful Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe.
Here is a brief overview of your Ownership Benefits here at Olympic Village Inn.
Timeshare Weeks
To receive the best choice of weeks for whatever season you own you can call to reserve your
timeshare week as follows:
• 3 Week Owner or more – 1 year, 340 days in advance
• 2 Week Owner – 1 year, 320 days in advance
• 1 Week Owner – 1 year, 300 days in advance
• Split Week – 1 year, 200 days in advance
Bonus Time
To put yourself on a waitlist for Bonus Time you can call 17 days in advance. (Please know what
dates you want before you call as the phones get very busy.) You can request two days at a time
and any additional days you will be able to call 48 hrs in advance of the additional day requested.
Bonus Time is not guaranteed.
Rentals
You may call for a rental at any time and guarantee your stay at 25% off the rack rate (nonholiday). You just need a credit card to hold the confirmed dates. (Cancel policy varies with time
booked.)
Reservations has been asked many questions this last year about time available. Let me provide
some insight on where inventory comes from. For Bonus Time the availability comes from guests
who check out early or guests who do not show up for their week. Rentals come from Owners who
will not be using their week and put it up for rent making space here at Olympic Village Inn
available to the public. Rental rooms are not used for Bonus Time availability. I hope this helps to
understand the "why" if the time you are looking for isn't available.
We have also been asked about the various activities we have available. Noelle, our Recreation
Coordinator, has been utilizing "Facebook" on our website homepage (olympicvillageinn.com) to
list current events. Check it out. She does an awesome job!
Finally we have been asked many questions about what to do with your week if you cannot use it.
Here you have many options. You can Spacebank your week using RCI or other exchange
company, allow family or friends to use your week, gift your week to a charity, use the rental
program or split your week for two short stays.
Please feel free to stop by reservations and introduce yourself. We have many new Owners and we
know you have questions. Our office hours are M-F 8am-4pm.
Remember, Olympic Village Inn is "your home away from home" so come and enjoy!!!
Happy Holidays!

New Beginnings(continued)
Squaw Valley Ski Corporation recently announced the sale of
the resort to KSL Resorts, a Denver based investment group
specializing in ski area destinations. KSL immediately
announced their plans to invest up to $50 million in Squaw
Valley over the next few years.
Nancy Cushing, Alex Cushing's wife, has stepped down as
CEO of Squaw Valley USA and the new CEO is Andrew (Andy) D. Wirth. Andy formerly was
with Intrawest as the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Steamboat Ski & Resort
Corporation in Colorado.
Squaw Valley USA has remodeled the interior of the Olympic Village Lodge (formerly the Grand
Lodge), removed the old abandoned swimming pool and rebuilt the outside deck. They have also
remodeled the Squaw Kids Center, Bar One in the Olympic house and the ground floor of the Gold
Coast Lodge.
Squaw Valley USA is improving the mountain experience for kids of all ages by transforming the
Belmont Park into a kids terrain park complete with a snow fort, kid-friendly jumps, bumps and
whoopty-doose and they are expanding their night skiing with improved lighting in the Riviera
terrain park and half pipe.
In the Real Estate market we also have very encouraging changes. In Squaw Valley and the North
Tahoe/Truckee area our market has started to rebound. Our sales are 30% ahead of last year! This
is due to two factors; interest rates at an all time low, and this past year saw an additional 14%
reduction in the median prices of both single family homes and condominiums. While this is not
good news for sellers, it is great news for buyers, and they are acting on it. Distressed properties,
REOs (bank owned properties) and Short Sales, account for 31% of this year's sales. However
sales of non distressed properties are also very strong. It is definitely a buyer's market.
This is also true at the Olympic Village Inn. Our sales prices are the lowest they have ever been,
even lower than pre-sale prices in 1982! Our sales activity is also very high as many Owners are
taking advantage of these historically low prices. Plus, we are seeing a significant increase in
Owners' friends and family members benefiting from current prices.
After 22 years here at OVI, I consider myself fortunate to be associated with such a beautiful, well
maintained resort. Please accept my best wishes for a year filled with new beginnings.
