16th, 2010. N.B. Office hours are on her door.
Course Goals and Objectives
The elements of this course remain the same throughout the academic school year. The most primary and critical
goals for this course are the mastery of the vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills. In each chapter, the students
will study the grammar, vocabulary, history, derivatives, and culture associated with the Latin language. By the end
of the year, each student will become familiar with hundreds of Latin words and their many English derivations,
several historical figures of the Late Republic and Early Empire, and the multiple impacts which antiquity had upon
the modern Western Civilization.

Classroom Rules
1.
2.
Come to class on time. I shall close the door after the second bell stops ringing.
Wear your I.D. at all times. I shall stand at the door and check for your I.D. If you do not have it, you must report to
Room 111 and receive a tardy and purchase a new I.D. Please note that each I.D. cost $5.
3. Attend to personal needs before coming to class. I have been instructed not to give passes to lockers and to
bathrooms. For that reason, please do not ask for a pass unless you have a true emergency.
4. Remain in your assigned seat unless you have permission to get up.
5. Do not eat candy or other food in class unless you have been given special permission.
6. Bring required materials every day unless you are otherwise directed.
7. Talk only when permitted.
8. Use polite speech and body language. Unkind teasing and impolite behavior is unacceptable.
9. Do not cheat. Students caught cheating will receive a zero and a phone call home. Both the student who shares his or
her work for an independent assignment AND the person who copies it will suffer the same consequences. I expect you
to do your own work and to be sure no one can copy it.
10. Follow the teacher's directions immediately. I try to be both a fair and respectful teacher. Therefore, I expect each of
my students to do the same in return.

Attendance
If you are absent from class for any reason, it is your responsibility to find out homework assignments as
well as upcoming tests dates. You have as many days to make up homework as you were absent. It is
your responsibility to give the made-up work to me within the allotted amount of time; afterwards it will
not be accepted. If you return to school on a test day and you have had prior knowledge of the test,
you will be expected to take the test in class that day.
Tardiness
Tardiness to class is unacceptable. Chronic tardiness will result in disciplinary as well as academic
consequences.
Homework/Warm-ups
Daily assignments will be given, which will be checked for completion at the beginning of class. In
addition, random spot checks will be given, which will be graded for accuracy. NO LATE
ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. See “Attendance” above for make-up policy. If you are
absent, you are responsible for both the warm-up and homework assignment for the days you missed.
Please note that students are responsible for homework during field trips or other “signed-out” days.

Course Goals and Objectives
The elements of this course remain the same throughout the academic school year. The most primary and
critical goals for this course are the mastery of the vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills. An
important corollary goal is the ability to recognize English words derived from the Latin and to be able to
deduce meaning based on knowledge of Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes. In each chapter, the students
will study the grammar, vocabulary, history, derivatives, and culture associated with the Latin language.
By the end of the year, each student will become familiar with hundreds of Latin words and their many
English derivations, several Roman/Greek deities, and the multiple impacts which antiquity had upon the
modern Western Civilization.
