HARCOURT TROPHIES Vocabulary/High-Frequency Words: Grade 2 High-frequency words are introduced in each theme with a literature selection. These words are research-based and are often found on the Doch, Fry, or HarrisJacobson Word Lists. These words are tested in Trophies. High-Frequency Word Cards are recommended to be used as a teaching tool during the lessons. Highfrequency word lessons appear on the 5-day planners and are easy to identify in the “Word Work” part of the lesson plan. Vocaulary words begin to appear in the 1-4 book at Grade 1 and continue through Grade 6. Vocabulary lessons appear in the Pupil Edition and present the vocabulary for the selection in the Pupil Edition beginning in Grade 2. Every selection, beginning with the 1-4 book, begins with a list of vocabulary words. The list of words is taught in the Word Work part of the lesson plan. Each word is defined at a point-of-use in the Teacher’s Edition, and a teaching transparency is provided for the teacher to introduce students to these words in context. A vocabulary-writing connection also includes an opportunity for student to develop more knowledge of vocabulary in Trophies. Book 2-1 Theme 1 Selections The Mixed-up Chameleon Get Up and Go!
