 Examine self-disclosure in terms of process, influencing factors, risks and benefits,
and implementation guidelines.
Assignment Overview
This writing assignment explores self-disclosure.
Deliverables
 2-page paper (12-point font).
Activity Details
Perform the following tasks:
Step 1: Review the concept of self-disclosure.
Review the concept of self-disclosure using lecture notes, textbook materials, and
outside resources as necessary.
Step 2: Write a 2-page paper.
Write a paper examining the concept of self-disclosure. Answer the following
questions in your paper:
o What is self-disclosure?
o What are the factors that influence self-disclosure?
o What are the rewards of self-disclosure? What are the dangers of selfdisclosure?
o What are the guidelines for making self-disclosures? How have you or
someone you’ve interacted with used these guidelines or violated them?
o What are the guidelines for facilitating and responding to self-disclosures?
How have you or someone you’ve interacted with used these guidelines or
violated them?
o What are the guidelines for resisting pressure to self-disclose? How have you
or someone you’ve interacted with used these guidelines?
Step 3: Save and submit your assignment.

peoples’ perspectives.

Assignment Details
Perform the following tasks:
Step 1: Read the “Perceiving Differences” Skill Development Exercise.
Read the Skill Development Exercise titled “Perceiving Differences” found on
p. 40 in the Essentials of Human Communication textbook.
Step 2: For each scenario, document how each person in the scenario
views the situation.
Read each of the three scenarios in the exercise, and document how each person in
the scenario views the situation. Capture your thoughts in the form of a paper.
Step 3: Save and submit your assignment.
When you have completed the assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a
copy to your instructor.

 Manage the impressions you project to others.
Assignment Overview
This experiment allows students to assess dimensions of their communication skills and
determine how the results can be used to improve their communication.

Perform the following tasks:
Step 1: Choose a profile and complete the assessment.

follow the instructions to complete the assessment:
