Instructional Objective: (Measurable) By the end of this lesson student will be able to: - Recognize letter r correctly. - Pronounce letter r with 95% accuracy. - Write letter r with 90% accuracy. - Give a word starts with letter r. Materials: Puppet “Rooster” Simple story “Reggie Rooster” Flashcards of the words “red, rocket, rooster, rainbow and radio” Flashcards of the pictures “red, rocket, rooster, rainbow and radio” Six groups of magnetic letters “R, O, B AND G” Colored sand in a plat (one for each group) Glue (6) Scissors (25) Six boxes of color pencils. Real objects that start with the letter R “rose, ruler, red paper, rectangle, rabbit puppet” in a bag Reggie Rooster song on a CD Reggie Rooster Tune: Hush Little Baby Reggie has a rocket that is red Reggie keeps it right beside his bed Reggie likes to listen to rock ‘n roll Reggie plays it on his radio. Who can give me a word starts with letter d?" The students will give examples. The teacher will say, "Today we have a new letter that came with our guest today. It is my friend, Reggie. Reggie say hello to my class." Reggie will show a picture of his room and tell the student about it. The picture has some objects that start with the letter r (rooster, red, rocket, rainbow and radio) Teacher Strategies: 1- The teacher will ask the students to listen carefully to Reggie because his going to repeat many times the sound of our letter today. Reggie will show the students the picture. Say to them look this is my room I have a red rocket. Then ask the children "what do I have?" They repeat after him rooster, red, rocket, rainbow and radio. And so on for every word in his picture. 2- The teacher will ask the students what Reggie has in his room and put a flashcard for each word they give me on the board. 3- The teacher will bring real objects starts with letter R in a bag. 4- Ask students to pick up an object from a bag and tell me what it is and if it is starts with letter r or not. 5- Show the students letter r big and small. 6- Say letter r sound and students repeat. 7- Give the students magnetic letters and ask them to pick up the letter r. 8- Divide the students to 6 groups; each 3 groups will have the same activity 9- Activity number 1: students will sort some words starting with the letter r to start with big letter R and small letter r. 10- Activity number 2: students will sort some pictures to start with r and does not start with letter r 11- Show student how to write the letter r on the white board then ask them to write it on the colored sand I give to them. 12- Give to the students the worksheet number 1 to color the picture that starts with letter r sound. 13- Give to the students the worksheet number 2 to "choose the three pictures that have the beginning sound of R. cut and paste them into the boxes. Color the letter." Student Activities: - Students should listen to Reggie story to find out what is the sound of our letter today. - The students should repeat after Reggie the words begin with letter r sound. - The students should answer teacher’s questions about the picture. - The students should say the name of each object they pick up from the bag. - The students should rebate after the teacher the letter r sound. - The students should pick up letter r from other letters. - The students should attention to teacher direction when he explains the activities for them. - The students should work cooperatively to sort some words starts with the letter r to start with the big letter R and the small letter r - The students should work cooperatively to sort some pictures to start with r and does not start with letter r. - The students should write the letter r on the colored sand. - The students should individually coloring worksheet 1 - The students should individually doing worksheet 2 Modifications / Differentiation Students who make slower progress will: have more explanation and assistance in Arabic directions.
