The Veteran Teacher – Field Study 2
Rationale:
Research recommends that all teachers have the opportunity to watch colleagues model instruction,
management and supervision of students during the school day. As a Teacher in Residence student, you
have been formally exposed to characteristics of highly effective teachers; the next step is to go and
watch “veteran” teachers model what you are learning. In so doing, you will not only meet and develop
more relationships in your building; you will also further develop a “picture” in your mind of what an
effective classroom “looks like” and “feels like.”

Consult with your evaluating administrator and mentor as to which classrooms would be most
beneficial for you to watch.
Take time to personally take the field study letter to those teachers. Ask them what time would
be best for you to watch.
As you watch, complete the field study guide.
Type up your artifact cover sheet, field study guide AND the reflection at the end of the guide.
