Introduction to Moodle Hands-on Exercise for teachers This exercise is provided for teachers to gain a first hand experience in preparing their Moodle courses. You need to have the teacher's role in a Moodle course and use this for doing the exercise. 1. Login Moodle a. ► Login HKU Portal at https://hkuportal.hku.hk -> “My eLearning” -> 2. Click to access your Moodle courses, if any b. Students (TA) working as designer: http://webct2.hku.hk/webct/servlet/MyElearning c. Locate your course MOODmmdd_nn_2011, e.g. MOOD0901_01_2011 You are a teacher of this course 2. Add a co-teacher a. Add HKU Portal account ‘angelawy’ as a co-teacher i. ► Select from “My eLearning” of HKU Portal 3. Access the training course (get training materials and act as a student) a. Click Moodle link to enter your course b. Click Training course for Moodle on the right hand side of the course home page. You have been added as a student in this Moodle course c. Take part in the activities in this training course 4. Starting with a new course (act as a teacher) a. Navigate around the course b. Try the functions: Course administration -> Edit settings c. Turn editing on d. Click the eye button to hide the News forum and then to show it 5. Course notes a. Turn editing on b. Create a topic section named “Lesson 1” c. Add a resource -> File, Label, Page, URL to your new course d. Add an activity -> Assignment 6. News forum a. Rename the “News forum” to “Announcements” b. Post an announcement in the News forum 7. Forum/Discussion board a. Add an activity -> Forum Introduction to Moodle Hands-on Exercise Page 1 of 2 b. Add a new discussion topic 8. Switch role to student a. Switch to student role b.
