ACI CERTIFICATION
American Concrete Institute, Southern California Chapter, announces its schedule for certification of concrete Field
Testing Technician Grade 1. This program has been developed for certifying individuals who will then be competent
to conduct field tests on fresh concrete. The program covers details of ASTM procedures and consists of a written
and performance examination. The performance examination requires the candidate to demonstrate his/her ability
to correctly perform and record the results of field tests on fresh concrete.

Each training examination course consists of 4 (four) sessions:

To maintain certified status with ACI, you must renew every 5 (five) years. Because class size is limited, all classes
are filled on a “first response” basis. To reserve a space, payment must accompany your completed application. A
confirmation will be found at www.ACISoCal.org upon complete receipt of payment. You will be provided all
materials including the workbook at the first class. Applicant is responsible for knowing his/her class dates, times
and location. This test requires the physical ability to lift the required weights.

Can I be on the waiting list for a class that is marked full?
No. When the class is marked FULL, the waiting list is also full.
Can I pay at the first class?
No. All classes must be prepaid at the time of registration. Instructors are not allowed to handle
payments.
Can I pay by credit card over the phone?
No. Payment (either check or credit card information) must be made by mail or fax.
Can I pay by money order?
Yes.
Where can I get information on classes to be held outside of the Los Angeles area such
as San Diego, Las Vegas or northern California?
Go to the following website for telephone numbers or class information http://www.concrete.org
or call (248) 848-3700. (Please note: On any website, information on the Southern California
classes may not be current or accurate. Call the ACI-SCC office with your email address, fax
number or mailing address for the most current information. (877) 562-2241.
Can I obtain a book before the class starts?
It’s not necessary; the book will be handed out during the first class. If you feel a particular need
to study ahead of time, call ACI at (248) 848-3700 to purchase a book. You’ll be paying for it
twice since it is also included with the class. The price of the additional book will NOT be
deducted from the class price.
Is there anything I should bring with me to the class?
Yes, a pencil and a simple use calculator. The workbook will be provided at the first class.
How do I register to re-take a written exam?
Written exams must be paid/scheduled two weeks prior to the first date of any class. First, go
on line at www.ACISoCal.org or call the ACI-SCC office and leave your fax number, email or
mailing address to get a registration form and schedule. Once you receive the up-to-date
information, then fax or mail a registration form indicating which class you desire to the ACISCC office with payment. You will receive a confirmation just as you did for the initial class.
How do I register to re-take a performance exam?
First, go on line at www.ACISoCal.org or call the ACI-SCC office and leave your fax number,
email address or mailing address to get a registration form and schedule for a performance
exam “re-take”. Once you receive the updated information, then fax or mail a registration form
indicating which class you desire to the ACI-SCC office with payment. You must choose a class
NOT marked FULL for a performance exam “re-take”.

How do I get a receipt?
Your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. If you need something additional,
make a copy of your check before sending it in. Also, printing a copy of the class roster from the
website may be acceptable as a receipt.
How do I get a confirmation of my request?
Go on line at www.ACISoCal.org and from the “schedule” click on the class date you requested.
Your name will appear in the list of students as soon as your payment is confirmed (usually
within 5 days). A confirmation of your attendance for the class will NOT be mailed to you; this is
the only way to obtain it.
How do I reschedule my class?
Fax or mail ACI-SCC a written request to reschedule stating what class you are currently in and
what two classes you would like to be in. This written request must be received by the ACI-SCC
office no later than 48 hours before the original class to which you were assigned begins. If you
wait longer than 48 hours before the class is to begin, you lose your registration fee.
How do I cancel my class?
Fax or mail ACI-SCC a written request to cancel stating what class you are currently in. This
written request must be received by the ACI-SCC office no later than 48 hours before the
original class to which you were assigned begins in order for you to receive a refund of your
class fee, minus a $75 handling charge. If you wait longer than 48 hours before the class is to
begin, you lose your registration fee entirely.
How long is my license good for?
Five years from the date you take your exam regardless of when your previous certification expires.
If I have a disability can I take the test?
If you have a permanent disability, let us know and we will make special arrangements for you.
(Proof of your permanent disability is required.)
If you have a temporary disability (such as a broken arm), you will need to reschedule your class
to when you can lift the required 60 pounds and pay the rescheduling fee.
Can I take or re-take my written exam on a computer?
Possibly. Consult www.concrete.org for companies that may offer the test in this manner. You
must schedule with ACI-SCC to take the performance examination.
What happens if it rains or snows?
The classes go on rain or shine.
Do I have to attend all the training classes?
No, but it is suggested that you do.
What do I do if I miss a class?
Go to the next class and continue with the program.
I lost my wallet card and need a replacement. Who should I contact?

I don’t have my test results yet. What should I do?
Results take 4-6 weeks and you are the first to know. If after 6 weeks you still don’t know,
contact ACI International at (248) 848-3700.
