Procurement Section Electrical Engineering Department Laboratory Equipment Tender # 2010/161 1 Electrical Machine Drive Trainer1 2 Transformer Trainer 3 DC Motor Drive Trainer The Trainer includes a base (workstation) to hold machines, and a prime-mover (a driver motor and its power supply and controller for driving the generators), a Synchronous generator, a synchronous motor, an AC induction motor (wound and squirrel cage rotors) single and three phase machines, shaded pole motor, reluctance motor, universal motor, Permanent Magnet brushless DC motor, DC motor/ generator with brushes, other types of motors will be considered. The setup also includes couplings, connectors, DC power supplies and single and 3-Phase power supplies to drive the motors. Load torque, three phase Resistive, Inductive, and Capacitive loads are included. AC and DC current and voltage meters, speed meters, necessary single and three phase wattmeters, power factor meter, torque meters and manuals are also included. Computer interfacing could be is an advantage. The setup should have all safety and protection features (shaft guards, overload, over-current, under-voltage protections…). Note that all connecting cables/wires (with safety heads/plugs) and connectors should be included. The trainer enables studying single phase Transformer by conducting short and open circuit tests, finding transformer parameters, load characteristics, turns ratio current and voltage relationships… The trainer includes the necessary power supply, R L and C loads, measuring meters, and connecting wires with safety heads/features and safety plugs. Effect of source voltage and rotor resistance (in wound rotor) at torque-speed and starting torques. For Single phase Motors (Universal and Induction) Module The Module enables conducting experiments on single-phase induction motor in order to clarify: principles of operation. methods of starting, and comparison of various types of single phase induction motors; split phase, capacitor-start, capacitor- run, capacitor start and capacitor-run and shaded pole motors, reversal of direction of rotation, torque-speed characteristics, input power factor, supply voltage effect on torque-speed curves, output power, efficiency, etc. vii. For Synchronous Motor/Generator Module The Module enables conducting experiments on single and three-phase synchronous motor and generators in order to clarify: principles of operation, identification of winding and poles effect, torque-speed characteristics. Power factor, output power, efficiency, and effect of field currents on motor/ generator characteristics, V-curves and power factor. Output voltage and current characteristics, open circuit test of generators, torque/speed of the generator. Synchronization of the generator with a three-phase supply. 4
