48 units of course credit subject to adviser
approval are needed. Up to 8 of them can be
from upper-division Mathematics. Up to 8
of them can be graduate courses in other
departments. Mathematics 295 and 500
generally don't count toward those 48 units,
and neither do seminar courses, unless the
student's participation is substantial.
Fulltime students are generally required to
register for at least 12 units per quarter.
Core: 12 hrs
Advanced: 6 hrs
Methods: 6 hrs

The M.S. in Statistics is designed to provide
recipients with a strong mathematical
background and experience in statistical
computing with various applications. Out of
the 48 units of credit needed, required core
courses comprise 28 units, including:
Mathematics

ISyE 6402 Time Series
ISyE 6404 Nonparametric Data Analysis
ISyE 6405 Response Surfaces

For a theoretical emphasis, Mathematics
280A-B-C
(Probability
Theory)
is
recommended.
For an applied orientation, Mathematics
270A-B-C (Numerical Mathematics) is
recommended.
Upon special approval of the faculty
adviser, the rule above, limiting graduate
units from other departments to 8, may be
relaxed in making up these 20 non-core
units.

Financial Aid
Offers several kinds of financial assistance
to entering graduate students.
The School of Mathematics support virtually all
doctoral students, but only a very few MS
students.
Typically, stipends are paid for work as
Graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs).
Advantages
Any Master's student can submit for
consideration a written request to transfer
into the Ph.D. program when the qualifying
exam requirements for the Ph.D. program
A strong group of faculties. (Including Chinese.)
1. A stronger group of faculties. (Including more
Chinese.)  The best of the 3.
2. Various courses.
3. Location. Business center, metropolis.
have been met and a dissertation adviser is
found (refer to "Ph.D. in Mathematics" for
complete description of the departmental
examinations). Approval by the Qualifying
Exam and Appeals Committee (QEAC) is
not automatic, however.
Disadvantages
1. Ranking low. (Univ & Department)
2. Lack of faculties. (There are only 4
teachers focusing on statistics area, in
which there are only 2 professors.)
3. Location. Not in financial center. Mexico
Culture…
1. Ranking low
2. In midtown Atlanta
