Cassie hale Procedure Plan – Scientific Method Based Projects Problem Statement: how does different kinds of water affect plant growth Hypothesis if the water is good for the plant the plant will grow tremendously Variables Independent Variable: water Dependent Variable: the plant Control variables: amount of light, water, fertilizer Location: My house 13024 appaloosa chase drive Materials: *pot *water *soil *seeds Safety Precautions: Parental super vision Detailed procedures: 1. Gather materials 2. Set up materials 3. Plant seeds 4. Water the plants 5. Put plant into sunlight for 3 hours 6. Keep the plants in 70 degree weather 7. Repeat numbers 4 through 6 for 6 weeks Data Table: Trial 1 Trial 2 Plant experiment Trial 3 average 1 Cassie hale Bibliography: 1 Cassie Hale October 1, 2010 Problem statement: Does different kinds of water affect plant growth? Source: Parts Of Plants, Roots. Retrieved September 29, 2010, from Encyclopedia Britannica Online website: http://school.eb.com/comptons/ Article-206621 Annotation: This article is about roots of plants. Roots are the most important part of a plant if there are no roots the plant will not be able to suck up the water you pour then the plant will die. The roots suck up the water using the root caps little hairs extended from the cells, which drinks up the water. The roots send the water to the epidermis so the plant cells extend and or grow. This article pertains to my project because I will be testing if different kinds of water affect the growth of a plant. So its helpful to know how the water goes on to the plant and this information will help me also to make my hypothesis. 2 Cassie hale Cassie hale October 4 2010 Problem statement: How does the different kinds of water affect the plant growth why do my plant need so much water. (n.d.). Retrieved September 29, 20010, from edu website: http://www.pa.msu.edu/sciencet/ask_st/092194.html Annotation: In this article I learned about plants and how they grow. I Learned that some plants use up to 40 gallons or some plants just use 1 Cup of water. Also plants are 90% of water. In this article I also Learned how plant eats the water. How they do it is they suck the water up Through the roots. And absorb the sun light (energy) and in the stem it Mixes it and then it becomes food molecules which then they send it to The leaves. Then that makes them grow. This article pertains to my project because I need to know exactly How plats eat and grow so I will be able to record my data and know how Much water and sunlight my plants need to keep them living. 3 Cassie hale Cassie hale October42010 Problem statement: How does different kinds of water affect the plant growth Great plant escape. (n.d.). Retrieved October 4, 2010, from edu website: http://urbanext.illinois.edu/gpe/case2/c2m2.html Annotation: In this article I learned that plant do need soil to live. The Soil is needed because that where the nutrients (water nutrients) is Stored. Also the soil hold the roots up and keep them fresh so they don’t Crinkle up and kill the plants. When a plant is decomposing it starts off In the soil with the roots then goes up to the whole plant. So over all Soil is needed for plants so they can decompose, eat, hold roots, and Live. This article pertains to my experiments because if I didn’t know this Then I could have gotten and bad kind of soil or no soil and kill my plant. Also this information will help me with my hypothesis cause I will know my plant will not die and soak up the water correctly. 4 Cassie hale Cassie hale October 10 2010 Problem statement: how does different types of water affect plant growth :flower parts. (n.d.). Retrieved from http://urbanext.illinois.edu/gpe/case4/ c4facts1a.html Annotation: In this article I learned that there are many different plant parts in a flower. I learned there are female parts and male parts. The female parts are the pistil and that traps and holds the pollen and the ovary which s what holds the ovals. The male part is the stamen and inside the stamen are 2 other parts called anthers and filaments. The anthers carry the pollen and it is held up by a thread like thing called the filaments. This article pertains to my experiment because this helps me know more how the plant is produced through the seed and how it captures the water to eat. 5 Cassie hale Cassie hale October 27 2010 Problem statement: how does a different kind of water affect plant growth? Plants need leaves. (n.d.). Retrieved October 27, 2010, from http://worldbookonline.com Annotation: In this article I learned that plants do need leave. The leaves are used to protect the plant from rain, bugs, and any other harmful things also the leaves help process the food making. Also the leaves take in the carbon dioxide and release our precious oxygen. I also learned about the parts of leaves. The first part is the blade which is the sides you can say of the leaves that are kind of sharp and also the tip of the leave is called the blade. The second part is the petiole which it the stem like part of the leave and it holds on to the actual plant. This article pertains to my project because if I didn’t know about what leaves do then if the leaves fall off then the plant could die. Then I would think the plant is dying cause of the water. 6 Cassie hale Cassie hale November 15 2010 Problem state ment: how does a different kind of water affect plant growth? Plant decomposing and animal. (n.d.). Retrieved November 15, 2010, from http://encyclopedia.stateuniversity.com/pages/5669/decomposition.html Annotation: In this article I learned about decomposing in plants. Decomposing is when the plant cells break down in to organic matter or organic molecules. The decomposing starts with the roots and end with the top of the stem. Also decomposing is good for the environment. Because you can put your food scrapes in and put worms in and the worms eat the rotten food and then they poo which the poo turns to soil this article pertains to my project because if the plant decomposes then I will know what is happening and what to do with the pant 7
