Each laboratory exercise builds on the previous exercise culminating in the identification of insect orders. After successfully completing the laboratory, you will be able to identify by sight, the major orders of insects. In addition, you will have the ability to extend your knowledge of insects based on the information gleaned from these exercises. For those of you concurrently enrolled in ENTM 206, these laboratory exercises will strengthen your understanding of the lecture topics. LABORATORY EXERCISES At the end of each laboratory exercise, you will remove the completed lab exercise(s) from the manual, write your name on each exercise, staple all pages, and place the exercise(s) in the box provided. You will receive 5 points for each completed exercise. . ii All lab exercises must be submitted at the end of each laboratory, and no late exercise will be graded. You may pick up your corrected lab exercise in the resource room, Smith 120, in the colored boxes arranged alphabetically by last name. These exercises will be available on the Monday following the lab exercise. LABORATORY PRACTICALS There will be four laboratory practicals during the semester; each worth 100 points. Practicals will test your knowledge of terminology, external and internal structures, names of organisms, and types of metamorphoses. Laboratory practicals are not cumulative. The final practical will test your ability to recognize the major orders of GRADE ASSIGNMENT Points will be assigned as follows: Letter grades will be distributed as follows: Practical 1 Practical 2 Practical 3 Practical 4 Quizzes Lab Exercises 100 100 100 100 60 140 points points points points points points TOTAL 600 points A B C D F = = = = = 600 to 540 539 to 480 479 to 420 419 to 360 359 to 0 ATTENDANCE Attendance is not required but you must come to take quizzes and lab practicasl, and experience has shown that those who do not attend the laboratory sessions either do poorly or fail.
