Dr. Joseph C. Hoffman
Acting President
Dr. Hoffman received a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from SUNY Martime College at Fort
Schuyler, a M.S. in Mathematics from Adelphi University, and a Ed.D. from LaSalle University. He has
worked at SUNY Maritime since 1977, serving as a Mathematics and Computer Science Professor and
was named a Distinguished Teaching Professor in 2001. Dr. Hoffman has also served as SUNY Maritime’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2006 to 2012.

Ms. VanderZee earned an interdisciplinary B.A. from Calvin College, a M.A. in
International Relations from the University of Notre Dame, and a J.D. and
LL.M. from Notre Dame Law School. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the
University of Notre Dame in Political Science and Peace Studies. Previously,
Ms. VanderZee worked as a Youth Director, Legal Researcher, Television Correspondent, and an Adjunct Instructor at SUNY Canton.

this, she was a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric

Director at The College of Idaho where he led a team of seven full-time professionals and dozens of paid and volunteer part-time student workers and ambassadors. Previously, Mr. Smith was the Dean of Enrollment Management at the
University of Maine at Fort Kent, Vice President of Enrollment Management
and Marketing at Excelsior College in Albany, and Adjunct Instructor in the
School of Business (distance education).

Mr. Bogardus received his B.A. degree from St. Lawrence University where he
was an English/Philosophy double major. Mr. Bogardus developed numerous
short stories and two full-length screenplays. He was previously employed as a
Library Clerk II at SUNY Potsdam Crumb Library, a Tutor/Professional Tutor
and Library Aide at SUNY Canton Southworth Library, and a Licensed Real
Estate Agent at Lacy Realty, LLC in Gouverneur.

University of Maryland.

Michael Magilligan
Mr. Magilligan received his B.A. in Music from SUNY Empire State College and
his M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from Pratt Institute. He was Outreach Program Coordinator at the University of the District of Columbia where
he implemented an outreach program for at-risk populations. Mr. Magilligan
was also employed as a Law Librarian at the Correctional Treatment Facility
where he directed legal research in print and database formats. He had a Fellowship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in which he handled and maintained premier museum collections.

Canton, she was a Substitute Teacher for the Children and Youth Services at
the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg and a Substitute Teacher

and a minor in Economics. Previously, Ms. Dolan was a regional Human Resources Manager for Kraft Foods. In 2005, Ms. Dolan joined SUNY Potsdam’s
Human Resources Department as the Assistant Director and later as Director
and Assistant Vice President. In January of 2013, Ms. Dolan became the shared
Assistant Vice President. She is a member of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources and the Society for Human Resources
Managers.

Mr. Kaplan received his B.A. in Sociology from SUNY Potsdam and his M.A. in
Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany. Previously, Mr. Kaplan was Chief of
Police for the Municipal Police Department in Potsdam. Prior to his position
as Chief of Police in Potsdam, Mr. Kaplan was a Lieutenant with the Municipal Police Dept. in Potsdam, Chief of Police for the Village of Norwood, and
Criminal Justice Adjunct Instructor at SUNY Canton.

Civil Engineering Technology. He was previously employed at Lowe’s as a
Plumbing Pro in the Plumbing Department (CSA II) and prior to this, Mr. Robert was Owner/Operator of CORO Construction in Hermon, NY.

Mr. Rourke graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a B.A. in Economics. He then
went on to spend the next 31 years working for General Motors in both Massena
and Honeoye Falls, NY. While with GM, he held various positions including
Plant Quality Manager and Personnel Director.

Mr. Russell received an Associates from SUNY Cobleskill where he majored in
Plant Science and a Bachelor of Technology from SUNY Cobleskill in Environmental Studies. Mr. Russell was previously employed as a Project Manager at
Atlantic Testing Laboratories. While at Atlantic Testing, he was responsible for
numerous projects that included providing environmental consulting services.
Many projects were performed locally at St. Lawrence University and Clarkson
University. While at SUNY Cobleskill, Mr. Russell was the Assistant College
Soccer Coach.

Sheila Scott
Payroll Manager

Sheila Scott
Ms. Scott received her B.A. at SUNY Potsdam and M.S. at St. Lawrence University. Ms. Scott began her career with SUNY Potsdam in May 1999. She is currently Payroll Manager for both SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam and Benefits Manager only for SUNY Potsdam. Ms. Scott oversees the shared payroll
operations for Canton and Potsdam to include student assistant, college work
study, graduate assistant, and administrative payrolls. She has worked in multiple areas within HR including Affirmative Action, Recruitment, Benefits, Orientation and Training.

Calvin Smith
Mr. Smith received his A.S. in Math and Science at Onondaga County Community College and his B.S. in Environmental Science from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University. Mr. Smith was also in
the United States Marine Corps. Prior to joining SUNY Canton, Calvin was employed as a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Engineer at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where he provided environmental health and safety technical expertise/risk management for site programs and construction projects in support
of a complex 500-acre Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing Facility.

Ms. Arsenault received her B.S. in Sports Management from Slippery Rock University and M.B.A. from Waynesburg University. Ms. Arsenault was the Assistant Soccer Coach at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania from August 2010
until joining the staff at SUNY Canton and, during the 2012 season, was the
first assistant for both Men’s and Women’s soccer programs. Prior to this, she
was the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at Hamilton College.

James Bechtel, Jr.
Mr. Bechtel received his B.S. in Kinesiology from Pennsylvania State University. He received his M.S. in Advanced Coaching/Physical Education from Springfield College. Before joining the staff at SUNY Canton, Mr. Bechtel was the
first assistant Coach/Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at St. Lawrence
University; first assistant Coach/Health and Fitness Professor at Shepherd University, and Assistant Coach at Susquehanna University.

and B.S. with Honors in Agricultural Business Management from SUNY Cobleskill. Ms. Chamberlain was previously employed as an Assistant Hall Director at the University of Buffalo where she directly managed and supervised a
staff of 17 Resident Advisors.

Trevor Gilligan
Mr. Gilligan received his B.E. in Wellness Management with a minor in Coaching from SUNY Oswego. Mr. Gilligan comes to us from Northwood School in
Lake Placid where he was the Head Midget Hockey Coach, Boys Hockey Recruiting Director, and Admissions Assistant. Previously, he was the Strength
and Conditioning Coach and Senior History teacher in the Social Science Department at Northwood School. Mr. Gilligan was Assistant Coach for the
Northwood School Junior Team, Midget Team, and other teams/camps. Mr. Gilligan was a member of the SUNY Oswego Hockey Team from 2003-2007 and a
member of the 2007 Division III National Championship team.

Nate Hart
Mr. Hart received his B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Athletic Coaching
from SUNY Oswego. He received his M.S. in General/Business Management
from Elmira College. He was a Graduate Assistant for Elmira College Sports
Sports Information in Elmira, where he served as the primary contact for 17
varsity intercollegiate sports. Mr. Hart was also a Student Assistant for
Oswego State Sports Information where he assisted in the transfer of website
material to a new content management system (SIDEARM). He has campus
and field experience such as Sports Writer for The Oswegonian and Sports Anchor for WTOP-10 TV, both in Oswego.

Ms. Hynes is a Licensed Practical Nurse who has previously been employed at
North Country Children’s Clinic as an OB LPN at Claxton Hepburn Medical
Center, Office LPN at Seaway Healthcare, and as a Medications Certified Resident Aide at United Helpers Care. Ms. Hynes attended SUNY Canton for her
EMT certification. She is currently the EMS Captain with the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department and a volunteer EMT with the Ogdensburg Rescue
Squad.
