Community Group Outline for the Week of 10/5/14 Week 4 – Family Values Series Wimberley and San Marcos WELCOME 1. When you go on vacation, do you generally come back refreshed or more tired than when you left? 2. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being poor; 10 being excellent), how do you rate yourself concerning time management? Explain. WORSHIP This message concentrates on one of the Ten Commandments. Before you pray as a Community group, read Exodus 20:1-18. You may consider reading this passage of scripture from The Message, Living Translation, or New Living Translation. During your time of prayer, ask God’s Spirit to be present. Ask God to fill each cell member with awe and expectation. WORD 1. There are several ways that one might view “time.” Simply put, one can view time as a commodity or as a gift. If time is a commodity to you, then it’s something to be saved, earned, or invested. If time is a gift to you, then it’s something to be treasured, enjoyed, and used for God’s glory. Which time management definition below best fits the way that you are managing your time? Time management is the art of squeezing more out of every hour of each day. Time management is the art of being less stressed about the pressures of everyday life. Time management is the art of treasuring and using my days as gifts of God. 2. Sir Walter Scott said, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time for it is the stuff that life is made of.” Is this quote in opposition to honoring the Sabbath? 3. Some might say: “I’m just too busy to observe Sabbath day.” Look at the following verse: “Six days are set aside for work, but on the Sabbath day you must rest, even during the seasons of plowing and harvest” (Exodus 34:21). Now, think about the last phrase. Are “the seasons of plowing and harvest” busy days?? How might this verse apply to our lives? 4. What truth concerning the Sabbath did you need to hear? What will you do now? WORKS Lead your group in a dialogue concerning how each of you will observe a Sabbath each and every week. Additional questions to stimulate this dialogue might include: What day each week is your Sabbath? How do you refresh your spirit on Sabbath day? What do you need to change in your schedule? Pray for each member and encourage them to see time management as the art of treasuring and using their days as gifts of God.
