Welcome to the High School Scholars Program
The Middlesex County College High School Scholars program allows high school students to
experience college work while still in high school. You can earn college credits that will appear
on a Middlesex County College transcript and may be accepted by other colleges. The program
also allows high school students to explore different fields of study
Keep in mind that you will be on a college campus. Whether students are on the main campus
in Edison or one of the College’s Urban Centers in New Brunswick or Perth Amboy, it
represents an open and unsupervised environment that is not comparable to the supervision
provided by your local public, private or parochial school. If you have any concerns, we
recommend door to door delivery and pick up. If your child plans on using the Library or going
to the College Center, please make sure s/he obtains and carries with them an MCC ID card
and the current semester sticker (obtainable from the Student Activities office).
All of the College’s policies regarding course withdrawals, refunds, payments and transcript
requests apply to High School Scholars students. If you decide not to take the class for which
you have registered, you MUST withdraw from the class prior to the 1st starting day of the
semester for a 100% refund. If no formal withdrawal is made prior to the first day of the
semester, you are still responsible for the payment due whether or not the student attends the
class.
The College will not release information about any student without permission from the student.
Therefore, you will be signing a waiver during the application process that grants approval for
the College to release grades and other information pertaining to the participation in the
program to a parent or guardian, as well as high school personnel.
Instructors issue course syllabi at the first day of class (some will email this ahead) that cover all
of the important class information. You may want to review this so you are familiar with
attendance and grading policies, class schedules, tests, quizzes, and/or papers that are
required. When in doubt, you should contact the instructor with any questions.
Instructors often use the College’s Campus Cruiser internet program to communicate with
students. Passwords will be mailed from the Admission’s Office to the student and should be
kept private. Please familiarize yourself with this technology which also enables you to check
your own grades, records, order transcripts, etc. No formal grade report will be mailed to you.
