COMMENDATION
HONORING SERGEANT TYRONE WILLIAMS, JR
ESSEX COUNTY BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS' 2015 VALOR AWARDS CEREMONY
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., will be honored by the Essex County Board of Chosen
Freeholders during its 2015 Valor Awards Celebration honoring Public Safety Professionals, to be held at the
LeRoy F. Smith, Jr. Public Safety Building on Wednesday, December 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He
attended Los Angeles Public Schools, and Caldwell University, Caldwell, New Jersey (BA Criminal Justice).
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served for approximately eight years before
being Honorably Discharged. He is a combat veteran, serving in the first Gulf War, Operation Desert
Shield/Storm. Once he and his wife exited the military, they moved to Montclair, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., has served with the Montclair Police Department since
July 1999. While assigned to the Patrol Division he worked as a Patrolman, School Resource Officer, and
Community Police Officer. He was assigned to the Investigative Division for the majority of his career and
has worked as a Juvenile Detective, Narcotics Detective, Detective (Adult Bureau), Supervisor in the Juvenile
Aid Bureau, and is currently assigned as the Commander of the Community Service Unit; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., is the Montclair Police Department's Recruiter, Gang
Intelligence Officer, and the Civil Rights Commission Liaison. He is also quite busy outside the department
where he serves as a leader/member of several community and fraternal organizations; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., is currently a member of the following organizations:
Sentinels Sixteen-87 "Montclair's Minority Officer Association" (President), Montclair Police Athletic League
(Executive Director), National Association of Black Law-Enforcement Executives (Noble) Northern New
Jersey Chapter (Parliamentarian), Basketball Coach Montclair PAL and Jersey Knights AAU, Acacia Lodge
#23 F&AM (PHA) (Member), American Legion Crawford Crews Post 251 (Member, Montclair Chapter
NAACP (Silver Life Member), Superior Officers Association Local #53 (Member), Fraternal Order Police
Lodge #126 (State Delegate), Montclair Grass Roots (Executive Board Member), and last, but certainly not
least, he is the proud member of the Union Baptist Church of Montclair where is serves as a Deacon; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., works selflessly to assist those that are in need. He loves
his job and does whatever he can to bridge the gap between the community and the police. One of his favorite
quotes is "Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life (Confucius)." He is a strong
advocate for the youth, and the community as a whole. He truly embraces his calling to be a "Servant" to his
fellow man, but most importantly to God; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr., is the proud father of two sons and one daughter, his wife
of twenty-six years is Lynne L. Gayle-Williams; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders hereby congratulates and
commends Sergeant Tyrone Williams, J r., for being honored during the Board's 2015
Valor Awards Ceremony, and expresses its sincere appreciation for his service on behalf of the
County of Essex; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sergeant Tyrone Williams, Jr.
