AFF SPONSORSHIP KIT
EXPOSE YOUR BRAND TO ATLANTIC CANADA THROUGH THE CONNECTIVE POWER OF FILM
The AFF
Expose your brand to Atlantic Canada using the connective power of film.
Welcome to the AFF where you can connect to a highly engaged, culturally active and captive audience, while exposing your brand to filmmakers from all walks within the industry.
AFF is a grassroots non-for-profit operation that began in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1981, offering one sole film festival event - it’s an organization that has come a long way in three decades. Now based in
Halifax, the cultural hub of Atlantic Canada, the AFF has blossomed into a cultural mainstay in Atlantic Canada that offers a year-round celebration of film. The AFF events target diverse segments and audiences,
and its flagship event has grown to become one of the premiere film festivals in Canada. Whether for industry folk, unabashed film lovers or curious onlookers, the AFF offers a slew of opportunities to engage
audiences through the connective power of film.
Today’s Atlantic Film Festival is now a year-round celebration, growing beyond our eight-day cornerstone event in September to include:
Atlantic Film Festival: It’s a festival that turns Halifax – a charming and historic coastal city – into an international Mecca for the arts, abuzz with filmmakers, industry types and film lovers. Offering
a first-look at the best international films of the festival season, the AFF is a champion of local filmmakers, committed to bridging the gap. We attract some of the biggest players in film, media and
music from around the world. All of our film selections are chosen with our community in mind and our special events are designed to bring us all together.
Strategic Partners: The AFF’s Strategic Partners is one of the world’s per-eminent co-production/co-financing markets focusing on feature film, TV and digital fiction. Strategic Partners
offers an intimate, organized forum for projects looking for financing as well as those still at an early stage - looking for the right partner.
ViewFinders Atlantic Film Festival for Youth: ViewFinders is a week long film festival for young people and their families. The festival offers daytime screenings and workshops for school groups as
well as evening and weekend activities that showcase youth-made films. Throughout its activities, the festival opens doors for anyone looking to watch great films, meet and learn from industry
professionals and experience the wonderful world of movie making through hands-on media workshops.
AFF Outdoor Film Experience: For 12 years, on Friday nights from mid-July to the end of August, the AFF has delivered an entertaining outdoor film experience throughout the Halifax Regional
Municipality – a larger-than-life inflatable screen showing classic movies under the open sky. With as many as 2000+ movie-goers coming together for each screening – all toting their lawn chairs,
blankets, picnics and favourite company – this open-air cinema has a unique festival atmosphere that must be experienced first-hand.
The most important event of its kind on the east coast, the AFF has helped foster the careers of recognized talents such as Mike Clattenburg of Trailer Park Boys, and Thom Fitzgerald Director of 3 Needles. Known
for supporting the local industry, in 2012, AFF premiered the award-winning feature-length film BlackBird by local director Jason Buxton. In 2013, audiences were exposed to a rich Atlantic Canadian program
featuring exceptional Atlantic Canadian film talent including the crowd pleasing The Grand Seduction produced by Barbara Doran with Roger Frappier and directed by Don McKellar, as well as the acclaimed All
The Wrong Reasons written & directed by New Brunswick’s Gia Milani - The AFF focus on celebrating local talent builds pride and passion for the local industry, while the program continues to deliver film festival
circuit’s biggest and most talked about films to Nova Scotia. This mix of offering delights audiences of both film buffs and cultural consumers.
The AFF organization’s film events are propelling the local film industry forward by building relevance, exposure, celebration, recognition and development. Here, you can reach your audiences intimately and efficiently.
At the AFF, we expose Atlantic Canada to film.
And when you sponsor the AFF,
we expose you to Atlantic Canada.

AFF Events: ViewFinders
April 6-12, 2014
A week-long film festival for the youth of Atlantic Canada and their families. ViewFinders focuses on exposing young people to the power
of film and giving them opportunities to create their own work. A combination of screenings, hands-on workshops, and Master Classes,
it’s a forum where you can capture this difficult-to-reach demographic in a richly engaging way.
The Festival offers daytime screenings and
workshops for school groups, as well as evening
and weekend activities that showcase youth-made
films. ViewFinders celebrates the best in regional,
national and international films for youth, tackling
issues from multiculturalism and community
to sustainability and creativity. Throughout its
activities, the Festival opens doors for anyone
looking to watch great films, meet and learn from
industry professionals, and to experience the
wonderful world of movie making through handson media workshops.
But really, ViewFinders: Atlantic Film Festival for
Youth is more than that. Beyond the main event,
held each spring, the ViewFinders team is hard
at work to bring a whole series of year-round
activities and programs to young people across the
Atlantic provinces. With a hard-hitting program of
workshops and master classes annually, ViewFinders
also launches unique events each year that continue
to expose Youth to film in new ways.
“ViewFinders was the first experience I ever had with film... I didn’t know what
was involved in a film set until I came to ViewFinders. It’s actually changed my
life a lot because it’s brought this interest that I now love into my life”
