THE ART OF BLUES & JAZZ, KC STYLE
KANSAS CITY, MO, DECEMBER 10, 2015: Buttonwood Art Space in Kansas City, MO seeks entries for
a juried art exhibition and sale, February 5 - May 6, 2016. The theme of the exhibit is blues and jazz music
and will raise funds for the KC Blues Society and KC Jazz ALIVE, both 501(c)(3) organizations that support
and lift the music scene in the greater Kansas City, MO region.
All visual arts media fitting the musical theme will be considered (drawing, print, painting, mixed
media work, photography, sculpture, etc.) (No video please, we do not have ability to jury video
submissions.) Preference for artworks depicting blues and jazz music genres. Open to all artists world-wide
age 18 and over. Artwork must be the artist's original creations completed within the last five years, and must
not have been exhibited in past Buttonwood Art Space exhibitions. Please be careful in your initial selection
of reference material to respect copyrights held by photographers. No works will be accepted that infringe
upon other artists’ materials (i.e., portraits of blues or jazz performers painted from photographs without
photographers written permission.)
Selected artwork must be wired, framed (if media applicable) and ready to hang (no saw-tooth
hangers). Painted, gallery-wrapped canvas is acceptable when all sides are painted, either with continuing
image or black sides. Wall mountable artworks must be less than 7 feet in height or width and sculpture
must be less than 7 feet in height or width able to fit through a standard door. Pedestals must be provided by
KS/MO artists for all three-dimensional works (when appropriate).

No Fees for entry. Commission to artist will be 50% of retail price as determined by artist.
Remaining 50% will be split between the two charitable organizations. Please enter by creating an artist
profile at www.buttonwoodartspace.com. You will be sent an email with more information about how to
upload images and enter shows. Jury: Representatives of both music societies and gallery staff.

A special VIP Gathering and Opening Reception will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, from 5-6:00
(VIP & Artists Only) and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (General Public) at Buttonwood Art Space, 3013
Main, Kansas City, Missouri, 64108. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,
or by appointment.

All works being shipped must include a return ship tag in the event the art piece does not sell. We
will return ship in your orginal packaging. No COD.
A final note: Buttonwood Art Space regularly sells artwork during exhibitions, but the majority of
sales happen during show openings. Be sure to invite your regular patrons and buyers to attend. The
majority of art sells at the range of $600 to $1,500, with more selling at the $300 price point. We generally
do not sell works above $5,000.

KC Blues Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of blues music and

Buttonwood Art Space was founded by Jon and Wendy McGraw as longtime supporters of the arts in the
Kansas City region and owners of Buttonwood Financial Group, which underwrites the Art Space. The McGraw’s
purchased the Buttonwood building in 2005, and then they added the gallery as a place for local and regional artists to
share their works. A recent expansion doubled the size of the gallery to 7,500 sq. ft. A portion of all sales go to local
