Do you like reading? At the same time, do you have a proclivity for action and a taste for adventure? If so,
you are likely to enjoy The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. This is the novel to which we can ascribe
the famous saying, “all for one, and one for all.” Although the book was actually written and published in the
1840s, the story it tells is set in 1625, a time of great ferment in France. In the opening episodes, a young
man named d’Artagnan tangles with a villainous noble. Then, through a series of surprising and adventitious
encounters, he meets and ends up dueling with the three soldiers, or musketeers, with whom he will soon join
forces. Together, the four adventurers, who abominate treachery and injustice, go on to challenge all sorts of
scheming foes, while always showing great courage and sangfroid.
