Sticky Note Annotations Assignment: You will annotate the novel we are reading in class with your own critical, explanatory comments/responses of the text on sticky notes. Use the following guidelines for your annotations: At the top of each note, write down the Sticky Note Category Each comment should be hand-written, at least 2 sentences/bullets, and detailed (except for the Vocabulary stickies, where you only need to write the definition and part of speech) On the bottom of each note, cite the author and page number in parentheses. Example: (Latifah 7) For each chapter you must include, at a minimum, four sticky notes from the following categories: As you are reading, annotate a sticky note for at least four different categories for each chapter. For example, in Chapter 1, you might have a Characterization, Question, Connection and Vocabulary sticky note. o Characterization—how the author introduces/develops a major/minor character o Setting—how the setting contributes to the character development, conflict, theme, etc. o Literary Elements—the impact of the technique on the work (metaphors, allusions, analogies, etc.) o Questions—a specific question about the story or about why the author wrote it the way he/she did o Vocabulary—words in the text that you are unfamiliar with o Connections—make connections between the text and yourself, the world, other texts, or the media For each chapter, you must also include a sticky note summary: My Forbidden Face, by Latifa. o Chapter 1 o Chapter 2 o Chapter 3 o Chapter 5 (pg. 119-125) o Chapter 7 Remember: Keep sticky notes in your writing journal.
