MPHA Code of Ethics
The purpose of the Minnesota Paint Horse Association is to promote and stimulate interest in the Paint
Horse by encouraging Paint Horse classes in all horse shows; pleasure and trail riding, and all activities
of the same nature in every way possible. This is accomplished by promoting good horsemanship and
good sportsmanship and by educating the public about the qualities of the Paint Horse and the American
Paint Horse Association
Members of MPHA Shall:

Act in accordance with the By-laws and rules and regulations of the American Paint Horse
Association and Minnesota Paint Horse Association.
Consider that every horse shall at all times be treated humanely and provide a safe
environment while attending any MPHA sanctioned event or horse show.
Any riding or training techniques deemed inappropriate by APHA will not be tolerated at MPHA
sanctioned events or horse shows. If witnessed – notify MPHA governing BOD or Show Manager
Act with courtesy and respect towards their fellow exhibitors, MPHA members and show
personnel.
Refrain from posting negative comments on Social media concerning MPHA club members,
sponsored events and/or awards. If questions arise – please contact the appropriate MPHA
governing committee or BOD.
Un-sportsmanship like conduct will not be tolerated and will be dealt with according to the ByLaws and rules and regulations of MPHA and APHA.
A. No person on show grounds, including but not limited to, barns stalls, parking area and show
arena, may treat a horse in an inhumane manner. The standard by which conduct or inhumane
treatment will be measured is that which a reasonable person, informed and experienced in
generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be cruel,
abusive and inhumane.
B. Upon discovery by a show official of inhumane treatment, show management shall
immediately report the matter to the Association.
Disciplinary action in accordance with MPHA practices for infractions of the MPHA Code of Ethics
1. First offense – verbal warning (will be documented with BOD)
2. Second offense - letter of reprimand
3. Third offense - two year suspension of membership privileges of MPHA
4. Fourth offense - five year suspension of membership privileges of MPHA
If for any reason the APHA suspends a MPHA member, the MPHA will adhere to the same disciplinary
action as APHA.
Competition and Exhibition Rules and Regulations shall be continually reviewed to ensure such welfare is
upheld.
