More and more people are beginning to wake up. They are becoming conscious in their everyday activities and for many, seeing the world with new eyes, perhaps for the very first time. Technology has changed the way we live our lives and interact with each other. In my work as a magazine editor and inspirational writer, I receive several emails from advertisers and readers. One day someone wrote to me about their appreciation on the messages that I usually share with our readers. At that moment I realized that it is when helping others that we feel at our best. Though, everybody knows, we can’t be all things to all people. We can’t do all things at once. We can’t do all things equally well. We can’t do all things better than everyone else. So we have to find out who we are, and maintain to be that person. We have to decide what comes first, and focus on that. We have to discover our strengths, and use them. We have to learn not to compete with others, because no one else is in the contest of being YOU. Then we will have to learn to accept our own uniqueness. We will have to learn to set priorities and make decisions. We need to live with our limitations. We will have to learn to give ourselves the respect that is due. All we have to do is to believe that we are a wonderful and unique person. That it’s more than a right, it’s our duty, to be who we are and knowing that life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish and with that we’ll be able to stay one up on what we had envisioned for ourselves. Remember the saying that “when one door closes another opens”, but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. And so today I had to “Take Some Time“ and contemplate where all of this is going. Even now as I wrote those words, “Take Some Time“, It feels like I almost have to steal it away and give it to myself. Something feels terribly wrong about that. friends International Magazine OCTOBER 2011 It has been wonderful yet sometimes difficult road, searching for a purpose on why we need to live within the others’ expectations. Do not scrub your face too much, lalo na kung may acne. 3. Huwag pipisain ang pimples, dahil maari itong mainfection at maging scar. 4. Huwag laging hahawakan ang mukha lalo na ang affected areas dahil madalas ang mga kamay natin ay madumi at puno ng germs. Kayumanngi, maputi o maitim ka man - It does not matter, NO ONE LIKES ACNE. Ayaw natin ng acne pero minsan tayo na rin ang nag-i-imbita nito sa ating buhay? Use gentle products as I have mentioned in my last article. Ang mainit at humid na panahon, polusyon, hormonal activity – such menstrual cycles can cause acne. Sa madalas na kaso ng acne, tayo mismo ang nagdudulot nito sa ating katawan/balat, sa pamamagitan ng ating mga habbits, thoughts, feelings, and actions. Paano? Tulad mo, at tulad ng maraming tao ako man ay pwedeng magka-acne sa anumang oras. Ang skin type ko ay prone masyado sa acne dahil ito sobrang oily. Naranasan ko na rin ang maraming buwan na ang face at likod ay may acne/pimples. Nakakainis, nakakaconcious at masakit. Okay, let me share you a little bit of my life. Ang isa sa trabaho ko ay humarap sa maraming tao para ipakilala ang aming sariling brand na “herbal and skin care products”. We help women & men to achieve a beautiful and clear skin, that they can all be proud of. Pero ang ibig sabihin ba nito ay hindi na ako pwedeng mag-ka-acne o pimples? Tao lang po… nagkaka-pimples din ako. Operating my own businesses and in at the same time being a mother to 5 children is not easy! Doing research and writing articles like this also takes so much of my time but true enough, we tend to forget the time passing when we do things that we truly enjoy! I love our community and I’m doing things that maybe least important to others but it is to me, and hopefully to you too. I’m sure you’d agree, sharing time and knowledge to others is one of the most enjoyable things in life. I know you could now imagine, like many, I am prone to stress din at kung minsan ay kulang sa tulog at pagod na pagod. At ito pa, ako man madalas na tinatamad din uminom ng tubig, boring kasi eh at walang lasa. . Pero sa buhay na tinatahak ko, naku…there is no space with acne! Extra effort at pagmamahal sa ating sarili ang kailangan. Mula ng sinunod ko ang mga simple steps na nabanggit ko sa itaas ay naiiwasan ko na ang acne/pimple. ACNE... Pimples go away! Never come again another day! Kulang sa Tubig: When it comes to beauty and health, alam naman siguro natin na talagang no. 1 ang tubig. Uminom tayo ng at least 8 glasses a day, it helps in cleaning and hydrating the skin and maintaining overall health. Water is one of the “most common beauty secret”. Samantala, maari natin tulungan ang ating sarili sa pammagitan na pagbibigay sa ating katawan ng hustong tulog upang makapagpahinga ng maayos ang ating “mind”, along with lowering stress levels will help to get rid of acne or prevent it. Mag-exercise, nakatutulong ito na bumaba ang stress level, sa pag-balance ng hormones and to increase the circulation of blood and oxygen to the skin. Practice Good Skin Hygiene: 1. Clean your skin every day. It is advisable to wash your face at least twice a day, or for oily skin three 8 It’s all about our personal choice. Gusto mo ba ng acne/pimple o acne/pimple free skin? Mas gusto ko ay acne/pimple free skin. Kung gusto mo rin ay kailangan lang na mag-extra-effort pa, disiplina sa habbits at routine, control sa emosyon para di tayo naii-stress. Alalahanin natin na “prevention is always better than cure”. YOU one day can be an acne/pimple free like me, and if you are the lucky one who never experience acne in your entire life, please help others, especially the teenagers. Negative effects on social functioning are often greater than that observed with more serious medical conditions. According to most research I’ve Cutting Off the Roots of Our Problem read, Acne may be associated with anxiety and depression. Mapapansin natin madalas, ang mga teenagers na affected ng acne ay mahiyain at may mga cases na nagiging introvert ang isang bata for the rest of his/her life dahil dito. The emotional effects of acne are not always easy to asses but surely, effective prevention and treatment of acne can dramatically improve victims or patients quality of life. shared by Remely Valdez the internet, a telephone, the wind and every forms of energy and communication that exists. In order for them to work, there is needs to be a receiver. We can read news and messages from magazines, newspapers and books or from a computer screen that produces an image with letters on it and our eyes transmit this to our brain which is the receiver of this message, and which gives us understanding. If we sing, speak and talk, everyone can hear us because our vocal cords produce a sound. Our ears hear it and transmit it to our brain which is the receiver of our voice and which makes sense of those sounds. Energy is present all the time in every place but it only has an effect when there is a connection between transmitter and receiver. Lets all make efforts so this acne problems go away, never show up again another day … especially on our big day! Please see the inserted box for make up tips. We all live different life. We can make our own choices and changes – however and whichever we prefer. Let’s all remind our selves, with this one important thing, “ A True Beauty is from Inside and Out. Keep our heart clean and smiling, and in at the same time, enjoy an acne/pimple free skin! I hope this article (again) add-up some knowledge and I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading it. Thank you and hope we can share more next time. For more info regarding this article, please feel free to contact me at rozglow@me.com, mobile: 91514867 HOW TO COVER UP ACNE WITH MAKE UP? 1. Wash your face with a gentle exfoliating scrub (such as the proven effective regular use of Rozglow 14-in-1 bar soap with Glutathione). Apply moisturizing cream on your face and neck (such as Rozglow 14-in-1 Face cream with Glutathione + sunblock). You should not layer new makeup over old makeup. 2. Apply GREEN concealer over any red areas, dabbing it on with cotton swabs. Do not worry about the greenness; this removes the red appearance of your skin. As in… flawless ang outcome nito. And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” (Luke 17:5-6) No root develops without a seed and no seed comes to life until it is dropped into and cared for in good soil. A seed has to be planted and embraced by the soil then the roots come. So, there is a source and a receiver. The source is the seed and the receiver is the soil, and the result is the root, which gives rise to a tree and its fruit. Without a transmitter and a receiver, nothing happens. The light of the sun illuminates the planets and the stars, but space itself remains dark. Why is that? Because it has no physical body to act as a receiver of the sun’s light. Not that there is no light in space. In fact, the sun’s light reaches every corner of the galaxy but it is only seen when the body of a receiver reflects it. The same thing occurs with electricity with radio waves, It’s not different in the spiritual world. But the devil knows this. Sadly, he knows only too well how to sow his bad seed in human hearts, which, we might as well admit are easy and willing receivers of all that is bad and normally resistant to what is good. Because of this, the devil has directed all types of negative energy towards mankind. He does this all the time with us. Only those who learn to unplug the receiver and reject the negative energy of evil are unaffected by it. On one hand, evil emits its negative waves in the hope that someone will receive them but on the other hand, good also emits its positive energy. Our faith is the receiver of the energy of God transmitted by way of His Word. When His Word is spoken those who believe and receive it are blessed. Our faith without a doubt is 100% receiver of the Word of God and can gives us authority to say to any problem, “Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the depths of hell!” and it will be done. Any problems and all bad roots in our life can be cut off by our faith. This energy of God penetrates where psychology cannot, where medicines cannot reach and where human intelligence is not enough. It can do anything because all things are possible for those who believe and to those who receive the Word of God without doubt. 3. Apply concealer or foundation that matches your skin color. Use a cotton swab or clean blending sponge instead of fingers, which may have some dirt on them. 4. Mag-apply ng loose powder para mas natural ang dating, pwede rin ang pressed powder. 5. Finalize your photo perfect look by applying shimmer on your T-zone. Oh, alam na natin ang ating gagawin kung may mayruon tayong big date, work presentation, interviews, and other important events. Stress and anxiety can cause breakouts, so try to relax before the big day! Though it is possible to cover acne with makeup, we should all know that makeup worn every day can contribute to skin breakouts. Give your pores a break by wearing makeup only when it is necessary. Huwag kalimutan maglinis ng mukha after make up at palaging maglinis ng ating balat bago matulog. friends International Magazine OCTOBER 2011 9 friends International Magazine OCTOBER 2011 Kalilang Mindanao by Nazzer Ampang front stage, guests led by Representative Go danced to the tune of “Wow! WE won the first round of the fight for Right of Abode. 30 September 2011 was the date for the much-awaited judgment on the HK High Court Petition of Evangeline Vallejos. It was a resounding VICTORY for all DH Visa Holders in Hong Kong, that after 7 years of continuous residency, they are now treated as equal before the Law of Hong Kong, enjoying the same protection and benefits just like all the other residents of HK as espoused by the Hong Kong Basic Law. Indeed, after many cases in the High Court challenging the exclusion of DH visa helpers as ordinarily resident of HK, the victory is welcome news to all OFWs. Justice Johnson Lam of the Court of First Instance was to make his ruling the day before but typhoon signal number 8 was hoisted in HK. The lashings of typhoon Pedring in the Northern Luzon has reached Hong Kong and Justice Lam read his ruling the following day. He said that the interpretation of who is Ordinarily Resident in Hong Kong under Section 2(4)(a)(vi) of Immigration Ordinance Cap 115, is inconsistent with the Basic Law. (Please see the Part 1 of this Legal Article published in August 2011) The following morning, Saturday, 1 October 2011, HK was a Public Holiday in celebration of the China National Day. The Secretary of HK Security Ambrose Lee, defiantly announced that the Government will appeal against the ruling of Justice Lam. He said that they will separately apply for the ruling to be stayed pending appeal and that the HK Immigration Department will suspend the application of DH visa holders to apply for Right of Abode, the last of which could amount to contempt of court. Other HK political leaders like Regina Ip of the New People’s Party called for the Government to seek interpretation from the National Peoples’ Congress in Beijing. But Liberal Party Meriam Law, rightly echoed my own opinion, that any interpretation by Beijing will cause Public dissent. Rita Fan clearly stated, whether the government seeks interpretation from Beijing before or after the appeal, it would be condemned as “Interference in HK domestic affairs”. As a legal professional in HK, this will cause erosion of the independence of the HK judiciary and the decline of the very strong rule of law in HK. I can envisage that the Legal Professionals, i.e. Barristers and Solicitors will march on the streets of Hong Kong. Our Philippine Government welcomes the 12 judgment but it is preferable that they keep quiet. I suggest that no Filipino should make any street protest. No organization or association should demonstrate. We do not have to do so with reasons as follows: Firstly, we are here in HK as our 2nd home and we are all treated well given the HK’s rule of law, the economic success, excellent infrastructure, efficient government, and peace loving people. We accomplished our potentials and our dreams in the territory that Philippines failed to provide for us. We should not create further animosity in the places where domestic helpers work. Secondly, the Hong Kong people have come to realize the importance of all migrant workers to their success. The time of reckoning has arrived. We help them reach at their current level of prosperity and our contribution cannot be denied. We are part of who they are and what they will become in the future. They cannot purge us. We are part of HK as a world-class global city. Thirdly, the rule of law is very strong in HK, much better than in Philippines. I am saying this because I am a practicing Barrister in HK and I know the ins and outs of their legal system. Trust the HK Judiciary… the Judges and Justices, corporately, has the most beautiful legal minds in the world… of what is just and fair. The common law system evolves with the current times just like technology. Fourthly, this is a challenge that the HK people should resolve. Trust me when I say that they know our aspirations. There is that segment of the HK society that is more outspoken, but the majority welcomes us here gladly and willingly. There are more people fighting for us, more that you could imagine. The various factions of HK society will soon converge and face the hard truths of migrant workers being permanent residents. Fifth, HK people has arduous undertaking to plan and execute the ground work on how to accommodate all future permanent residents and be taken care of like any of their local citizen. There are educational, medical, legal, economic, social services and infrastructure that is a mammoth task to organize and finance. They need time but they will overcome all that. HK people are very resilient and they will perform the job well. Sixth, OFWs must be patient. Serve your em- ployers well. They are the ones that will fight for your right to become permanent residents. The children that you take care will take your struggles to the next level. Seventh, as a devout Christian, I always believe that God’s plan and timing is always perfect. So pray that all things work together for good to those who trust HIM. We had Gladys Li as counsel and Mark Daly as instructing solicitors for the first round of victory. It is by divine providence Gladys Li is strong supporter of the Civic Party, where most legal professionals are members including myself. Be confident that God will assemble the next legal team to respond to the impending appeal of the HK Government. The next Justices who will hear the appeal will be more inspired by divine righteousness to uphold the decision of Justice Lam. Eight, you must get ready to become Permanent Residents. You start saving now so you can show that you are capable of financially supporting yourself by the time you file your application to become Permanent Resident. You must start re-training your old skills or acquiring new ones to compete in the open market. Prepare your resume; get your scholastic records, previous work certificates, and good reference letters. You must know by now what kind of work you will enter and line up the prospective companies that you can work for. Ninth, the future is very bright. Once you become permanent residents of HK, you will have the right to vote and shape the future of Hong Kong. We are a political force in the making and the other political parties better beware. We are crouching tigers and hidden dragons. We are Hong Kong. Tenth, The Assembly of Ilocano Associations in HK, where I am the Chairman, will soon organize seminars and forums to answer all your query regarding application procedures to become Permanent Residents. You need to know the requirements and the various social services that will assists you in the transition period of being a domestic helper to a Permanent Resident. (I would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the multitude of Ilocanos in HK and our friends, who supported us in the Multi-cultural Autumn Festival in Chater Garden on 5 October 2011. It was successful indeed. Agbiag tayo amin apo nga awan malabasan!) Guiding Light by Bernadeth M. Benitez Waiting for God’s answer is never a waste of time. The Lesson of Waiting “So keep our faith alive, confident that God is with us all the time”. Blessed are those who wait and trust him. Isaiah 30:18 Have you ever experienced delay? Stuck in the airport? Long queue processing our contracts in the consulate, immigration, shops and even in the comfort rooms? That you feel jumping from the rear to front to have your turn? and Auna waited long but their time wasn’t wasted,it put them in the place where they could witness the coming of the Messiah (Luke 2:22-34). Therefore: Not receiving an immediate answer to our prayers is no reason to give up faith. “It is not ours to know the reason why our prayers are unanswered but ours to wait for God’s own time to lift the cross we bear”. He knows what is best for us. Yes, it really happens and we experience and learn from those situations. Most of us would find it such an inconvenience, intolerable and disgusting. We could see some are going out of their way, who cannot wait and schedule themselves for some other time, have some place or transfer to other place to find their options and convenience, while others just tolerate waiting and just follow the queue and wait for their turn. When I think of those people who are so patient in waiting, I think of how impatient we can be when we have to wait for God. We often equate “wait” with waste. If we’re waiting for something or someone we think we are doing nothing which in an accomplishment crazed culture, seems like waste of time. But waiting serves many purposes. In particular, it proves our faith. Those whose faith is weak are often the first to give up waiting, while those with strong faith are willing to wait indefinitely. How often do we experience delays, changes of plans and redirections and treat them as intrusions? It could be that God is detouring us so we can do something different or new for Him. God can use inconvenience in our lives. If we (can) look at them as divine appointments, when we patiently wait and do the necessary, having a Christ-like attitude, then we receive what we want. When we read the story in Luke 2, we learn of two people who proved their faith by their willingness to wait. Carillo / ORAS NG HIMALA staff 1. TO SAVE SINNERS Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 1 Timothy 1:15 2. TO SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST. Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. Luke 19:9-10 3. TO HEAL THE SICK. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5 4. TO REDEEM US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree. Galatians 3:13 5. TO MAKE US RIGHTEOUS BEFORE GOD. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 6. TO GIVE US LIFE AND AN ABUNDANT LIFE. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 7. TO GIVE US PEACE. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 8. TO MAKE US SONS OF GOD. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:12-13 9. TO MAKE US VICTORIOUS. But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphant procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 2 Corinthians 2:14 14 How will I ever experience all these reasons of Jesus’ coming to the world? ANSWER: 1. GIVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. John 15:4 2. REPENT FROM ALL YOURS SINS. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Acts 3:19 3. ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD, HEALER & SAVIOUR OF YOUR LIFE. That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 4. OBEY HIS COMMANDS OR HIS WORD. If you love me, you will obey what I command. John 14:15 5. ATTEND REGULAR SERVICES. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25 “Yes, it is as you say”, Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you; In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven”. Matthew 26: 64 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back- whether in the evening, or at midnight or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone,Watch! Mark 13: 32: 37 RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST TODAY, please pray this prayer… “Father God, I don’t want to go to hell, I want to meet Jesus in the clouds at His coming and I want to enter heaven. I realized that I am a sinner, that I cannot save myself. I need a Savior right now. I humble myself to you and confess all my sins I’ve committed. Please forgive me for all my sins and also the sins of my forefathers. Forgive me for worshipping, bowing, praying, and asking help from idols and carved images. It was wrong and it is a great sin against you. Forgive me for gambling, smoking, committing adultery, fornication, telling lies, deceiving people, taking prohibited drugs. Forgive me for negative thoughts, words and deeds. Forgive me for watching pornographic posters and magazines. Forgive me for getting counterfeit power from satan through hypnotism, witchcraft, sorcery, black magic. Forgive me for hatred, resentment, self-pity, envy, jealousy, bitterness, loneliness, weariness and pride. Forgive me Father and my ancestors for worshipping to idols and carved images. I now forgive those who sinned against me, including my parents, brothers, sisters, relatives and even myself. I want to be changed. Lord Jesus, I now give my life to you. I accept you as my Lord, my Savior and my Healer. Come into my life and reign into my heart. Thank you Lord Jesus for what you have done at the cross of Calvary for me, for my family and for the world. I love you and I will obey you. I will never disappoint you. For the first time, dance groups, who usually perform on stage at FILCOM events here in Hong Kong have decided to organize a core group which they called Union Pinoy Crew-HK. It aims to unite dance enthusiasts, develop camaraderie among its members, organize fund-raising events , share dance techniques/steps and be able to impart their talents to those who are willing to learn dancing. Consisting of 8 dance groups namely: Afreight Dancers, with 4-5 dancers which represents Afreight (Asia Pacific) Ltd, a leading cargo company; D’Dreamers which has 8-10 member dancers; Star Circle Dancers with 4-6 members and have been Kwela at Saya Dancers and Public Finance dancers for sometime, SMS-Dumpers Crew, Agoo-AMWA Dancers, AMA Dance Group which has 8 dancers and represents AMA Learning Computer School, CCML dancers and TRIMA dance group; they held their first get-together at Chater Road, Central last Sept. 11, 2011. It was a getting to know time with every member having the chance to speak and introduce herself/himself to the group. They also performed their best dance moves, be it hip-hop, ethnic, ballroom, folk dance, interpretative dance or the plain modern dance; name it and they can dance their way in any tune, much to the delight of passers by and tourists alike. For them to have easy access to whoever would like to join the union, they would be at the same spot, intersection of Ice House St and Chater Road, every sunday between 5pm-8pm. Election of officers is scheduled later this month. friends International Magazine OCTOBER 2011 15 friends International Magazine OCTOBER 2011 Do you want your photos on this page? Leading man ni Lovi sa movie si Paolo Avelino, first time silang magteam up! Noon kasi, may pagkabarumbado raw si Joshua Ngayo’y hindi na mainit ang ulo ni Joshua. . Tingin ni Barbie ay nagma-mature na si Joshua. Bale, ikapitong team up na nina Joshua at Barbie sa ILAM. Pero, wala pa raw yung tipong nagkaka-develop-an silang dalawa.
