1.Make sure all your transcripts are accurate. High school transcripts are available from your guidance counselor.
College transcripts are available through VIP and in the Registrar’s office in the Health Education Complex (HEC)
for $8 each. Scholars receive a Scholars Academy transcript from the Director in the Spring of their junior year.
2.Research colleges:
a. Find out each college’s transfer credit policy, dual credit transfer policy, and AP score policy.
b. Ask which college courses are recommended to help you enter your chosen major. You may take some of those at
USC Upstate which will transfer to or at least prepare you for the college where you will pursue your degree.
c. Find out the required SAT and ACT scores for entrance. All 11th- and 10th-grade Scholars should take the SAT
in the Spring of 2013. Go to www.collegeboard.com to register for a test at the location of choice for March or
May. You should also take the ACT at least once in your 11th grade year.
d. Ask how many foreign language courses you need to enter that college. The answer will be anywhere from one
to four courses.
3.Schedule a visit with an Admissions Counselor at your top three university choices. Take the letter for seniors
posted on Blackboard and in The Scholars Academy handbook which explains what you do at The Scholars Academy.
Remember, colleges won’t know what The Scholars Academy is. Educate them!

FUTURE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
To help needy families in the Upstate, members of the Student Council are collecting
cans of food for the Middle Tyger Community Center and jars of peanut butter for
Total Ministries. Bring canned foods and peanut butter to Mrs. Grant or any Student
Council member by Monday, November 26. The cohort with the most cans of food/jars
of peanut butter will win a doughnut breakfast in December.
The Student Council project for December is the Angel Tree. We will adopt four
children – one teen girl and one teen boy, as well as two younger children, one boy and
one girl. Students are encouraged to donate money to Mrs. Grant/Ms. DeLoach by
Wednesday, November 28 or bring items for these children prior to November 28. A list
of needed items is posted in Mrs. Grant’s office. This project is part of USC Upstate’s
IMPACT community service organization.
Sophomore Scholar Preston Hudson from Chapman High
School went trick-or-treating for canned food donations in
support of the Scholars Academy’s community service project.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
If his/her home school closes due to inclement weather, the Scholar is not
expected to report to USC Upstate but should notify his/her college professors
of the reason for his absence.
If all Spartanburg County School Districts close due to inclement weather,
the Scholars Academy will close as well.
If his/her home school is delayed opening due to inclement weather, the
Scholar will report to the Scholars Academy late per his/her school’s schedule.
If the University closes due to inclement weather, the Scholars Academy will
be closed as well.
In case of inclement weather, please check local radio and television news
channels for school closings or delays. The director will also send emails regarding
closings and delays to all students as soon as possible. Students and parents may
also contact the Director at 864.978.2354.
All excused absences from college courses due to inclement weather will be at the discretion
of the college professor.
