What should I keep in mind if I am thinking about running for Office?
• NJHS Officers are leaders at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School.
-As leaders, they are expected to be fully involved in decision-making and also to work
hard to make things happen.
-NJHS will meet every month before school.
-Being an officer is both an honor and a responsibility. You are being given a chance to
make things happen at our school.
• NJHS Officer Election Timeline:
- Friday, May 24th, 2013 … Deadline to turn in completed Declaration of Candidacy
Form to Mrs. Merenda (Room 1005) or Mrs. Rayson (Room 1012).
- Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 … Present your Candidacy Speech to the NJHS Members at
our morning meeting
- Voting takes place at end of the meeting.
Election Do’s and Don’ts
DO:
*Only run for office if you’re ready to work hard to make OLHMS better!
* Spend time preparing and practicing your speech (include deliverable promises).
* Talk to other former NJHS Officers and members to get ideas.
* Feel proud of yourself for having the courage to run, win or lose.
DON’T:*Bribe voters (with candy or other goodies). Obama and Romney couldn’t do it;
neither can you!
*Refer to your opponent(s) in a negative way in your speech. Obama and Romney
COULD do it, but… we roll differently here at OLHMS.
