Describe ways you collaborate with faculty in the school to help determine and meet individual student needs. (APS 10.A) 1. Ways that I have collaborated with faculty in the school to help determine and meet individual student needs is by attending the weekly STEP (professional development) meeting to collaborate with teachers and instructional coaches. During this time, we make sure that our lessons are developmentally appropriate for all students and that we are scaffolding not only the lessons but also the grade level content as well. I have personally met with the math and literacy coaches at the school to determine how I could differentiate for my ELL and lower students. 2 Describe two ways in which you demonstrate that all students can learn. (APS 10.A) 1. Two ways in which I demonstrate that all students can learn. a. The first way that I demonstrate that all students can learn is by building my lesson so that they were developmentally appropriate and also that they were based on how the students learn. If the students were kinesthetic, I made sure to plan lessons where the students were able to do hands on activities and move around. If they were visual, I tried to incorporate a lot of pictures and visual aids. And if they were auditory, I tried to incorporate videos and music or read instructions aloud. b. The second way that I demonstrated that all students can learn is by pushing the students to want to do their best. A lot of my students were showing signs of learned helplessness and would not even try to do their work. When the students see that you truly care about their well being and about them they are more willing to do what you ask of them. 3.4.f ADEPT APS 10 - Low Performing Example 3. Describe the extent to which you actively participate in your school’s professional learning community. (e.g., attends and contributes to grade level meetings, faculty meetings, etc.). Your response should include the ways your participation helps make the school a positive and productive learning environment for all students. (APS 10.B) 1. I participated in all weekly STEP meetings, all afterschool activities, and parent-teacher conferences. During the weekly step meeting, I gave my opinions on topics that I felt I had a lot of knowledge about and was really verbal when it came to how our instruction is affecting the students. There were several afterschool programs that I participated in like the harvest festival and parent teacher conference. During the parent teacher conferences, I provided a lot of the feedback to parents because I was the primary teacher at the time. If the student was not doing well in a subject, I gave the parents a solution on what the child can do at home to help them. I received a lot of positive feedback from the parents and they realized that I was really passionate about what I was doing. Whenever the principal or anyone else need my help around the school I am always willing to help out. 4. The teacher candidate should be an effective communicator with faculty, staff, students, and parents. Elaborate on the variety of ways that you have communicated with the students’ parents and attach a copy of a recent written communication to those parents (e.g., parent conferences, letters/newsletters, notes, e-mails, etc.). (APS 10.C) 1. I communicate effectively with the faculty and staff on a daily basis. I attend weekly STEP meeting with other teachers, instructional coaches, assistant principal, and principal to collaborate on effective teaching and instructional strategies. My teacher and principal takes my opinions very seriously as if I was a full time teacher so it makes me more willing to be expressive when we have STEP meeting. I have communicated effectively with parents during the parent teacher conferences. I provided a lot of the feedback to parents about their students behaviors, their work ethics, provided the parents with solutions on how they can help their child at home with reading strategies and tips, and also some math strategies. The only written communication that I sent to the parents was at the beginning of the school year when I sent home a letter introducing myself and explaining how I will be working with their students. I do communicate with the parents at times using the student’s agendas. 5. In reference to the ADEPT Performance Standards , describe your professional strengths? How have you built on these strengths so far, and how do you plan to do so in the future? (APS 10.E) 1. I think that my personal strengths stems from my military background and they would include my leadership and management skills. By having good leadership skills it help me in the classroom and out of the classroom. In the classroom it helps me understand that all the students are different and that they come from different backgrounds and lifestyles. Before I became a leader in the military I had to learn how to follow, that really makes me a team player 3.4.f ADEPT APS 10 - Low Performing Example and gives me the capability to work with anyone. Being able to manage soldiers plays a huge part in how I manage my classroom. I believe that if you cannot manage a classroom then there is no way that your students will learn. I plan on building upon these strengths by always holding myself accountable for the outcome of my classroom and students because my students are and will be a representation of who I am. 6. In reference to the ADEPT Performance Standards , what are your professional challenges? How do you plan to address these challenges? (APS 10.E) 1. I think that right now my professional challenge is time management and how I pace my lessons. I have to say that I have become a lot better with time management because now I see teaching as a whole and not just teaching one subject. I plan on addressing these challenges by always preplanning my lessons and not just shooting from the hip. I think that as long as you plan your lessons prior to teaching that you will always be able to control the pace of the class. Being organized also has a lot to do with time management and that was something that I worked on a lot during my student teaching internship. Overall, I feel really positive going into teaching because I had a lot of time to practice these skills. 7. Based on your professional self-assessment, describe one important professional goal to support your professional growth (e.g., member of professional organization, participation in professional association, courses, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.). Explain why. (APS 10.E) 1. One important professional goal to support my professional growth is to continue taking courses to better myself as a teacher so that I can better serve the students. As a teacher, I realize that you have to be a lifelong learner because things in education are always changing. So my biggest goal would be to first add a literacy endorsement to my teaching certification because I believe that everything starts with literacy. If you can teach a student to read and write, everything else will fall in place. Parent Communication Please attach your Parent Communication document here. Click the edit button on the right.
