JOB VACANCY Job description We are looking for an enthusiastic Biostatistician/Epidemiologist who will perform biostatistical and epidemiological analyses in the field of nephrology within an international context. The applicant will work on EURODOPPS – a large dataset including the clinical data of more than 25 thousand haemodialysis patients from 7 European countries participating in the global Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) (www.dopps.org). DOPPS is aimed at extending survival and improving the quality of life of hemodialysis patients worldwide. Through its many publications it has contributed to the evidence base incorporated into clinical practice guidelines. The EURODOPPS data are collected and managed by DOPPS, but the ERA-EDTA Registry for dialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients (www.era-edta-reg.org) in the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) has received access to them. Tasks will include the further processing of the data; participation in the development of research proposals for evaluation by the EURODOPPS supervisory committee; performing epidemiological and biostatistical analyses of the data, providing methodological advice to the other members of the team, supervising visiting researchers working on the data; and participation in the writing of scientific papers and grant applications. Department The department of medical informatics in the AMC performs research in the area of patient care evaluation using epidemiological, biostatistical and informatics techniques. It hosts a number of medical registries, including the ERA-EDTA Registry and the EURODOPPS database. The candidate will be part of our research group including epidemiologists, a medical information scientist, a database manager and PhD students. As a group we hold close contacts with nephrologists and epidemiologists from all over Europe. On a regular basis we have visiting researchers. Finally, we give international CME courses in epidemiology for nephrologists and nephrology researchers. What we offer We offer an interesting dynamic and international research environment in which the Biostatistician/Epidemiologist will work together with epidemiologists and nephrologists from all over Europe and the DOPPS coordinating center in the US. We offer a position of 32 hours per week for one year with funding available thereafter. After one year there will be a decision on job contract renewal. The salary depends on experience and takes place in accordance with CAOUMCs, salary scale 10 or 11 (maximum € 4.794,- gross per month). The applicant will get a position at the AMC Medical Research BV (www.amr.nl), which has excellent terms of employment including a holiday allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of the gross annual salary. What we ask for A PhD in Biostatistics or Epidemiology. Excellent communication skills and a clear style of writing. Excellent oral and writing skills in the English language. Extensive experience in statistical testing and modelling, including advanced etiological modelling methods. This experience is shown from scientific publications in this area. Experience in the writing of research proposals. Experience in the use of SAS or STATA.
