THE FORESTER, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 B3 The Huntsville Forester DINING ENTERTAINMENT Huntsville Festival lineup includes Blue Rodeo tonight Blue Rodeo headlines an eclectic list of nationally and internationally recognized performers who will be part of the 2010 Huntsville Festival’s summer season. The iconic rock band has been at the forefront of the Canadian music scene for 30 years and this will be their first performance in Huntsville. Playing tonight, to an audience anticipated to be in excess of 2,000, the group will help inaugurate the new Canada Summit Centre and celebrate the legacy of additions and improvements to Huntsville and area initiated by virtue of the hosting of the G8 meeting of countries. Local talent Laganza will open up for them. At press time, there were still tickets to the show. They will be sold at the door, which opens at 7p.m. Friday, July 2, the Festival’s July schedule kicks off with Festival favourite Lighthouse, Canada’s premier classic rock group. No strangers to the Festival, the band still sports founding members Skip Prokop, Paul Hoffert and Ralph Cole. The group was a mainstay of the Canadian music scene in the late 60s and 70s and has been re-energized over the past number of years with the addition of vocalist Dan Clancy. From Sunny Days to Hats Off To The Stranger expect to hear all of their hits while also enjoying their new material. Saturday, July 3 will offer a special evening of music with the introduction of Mark Masri to our Huntsville audience. This rising star vocalist has toured with piano great Jim Brickman and has co-written the song The Face with Olympic composing star Stephan Moccio. Masri also performed on the recent CBC hit Battle of the Blades. Joining Masri for the concert, on selected numbers, will be Canadian hit maker Sky Sky. Well known to Huntsville audiences as both a performer and a seasonal resident, Amy recognized quickly the talent that Masri brings to the stage and has been instrumental in promoting this future star. She is convinced that with the voice of an angel, the looks of a heartthrob and the soul of an artist, Masri is poised to become Canada’s next vocal sensation. The concert will feature the music of Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Lionel Ritchie and also original tunes. Sunday, July 4 young and old are invited to get involved in a special workshop and concert. Celebrated children’s artist Norman Foote will lead a songwriting workshop, starting at 12:30 p.m.. The workshop will be held at the Festival stage in River Mill Park. Foote will take adults and children over 8 through the process of songwriting. One outcome will be the creation of a song that will be performed at a concert to be presented at 2 p.m., following the workshop. Also held on the Festival stage, both the workshop and the concert are offered free of charge. Registration for the workshop will take place at 12:15 p.m. at the stage or online prior to July 4, by emailing info@huntsvillefestival.on.ca. A cross-generational songwriter, Foote writes tunes that catch the heart of young and old alike. His concerts are filled with engaging stories of his own youth, packed with wonderful adaptations and wordplay. He has often been referred to as “a modern day vaudevillian” when he introduces his “props with an attitude.” His recent CD Love My New Shirt was recognized with a 2010 Juno Award and his hit Man Who Ran Away with the Moon has been played on Nickleodeon, Disney and Family Channel. Tuesday, July 6, Classic Albums Live return to Huntsville with their presentation of The Beatles White Album in its entirety. Having performed albums from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Supertramp in the past, the recreation of one of the top ten albums of all time should be a special event. The group is not a tribute band in that they don’t attempt to recreate the looks of the original Beatles. Their focus is on the music and often a number of artists are required to recreate sounds on the CD, often created in the studio during recording. Tickets for all Festival events are available at the Algonquin Theatre box office on Main Street., by calling 789-4975 or online at huntsvillefestival.on.ca where the entire lineup, through July and August, can be viewed. HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME: Blue Rodeo will be at the Canada Summit Centre tonight. Don’t miss the first concert at the venue as well as Blue Rodeo’s first visit to Huntsville.
