Theory is put into practice; the students will find themselves better prepared to start a career in an international legal practice. Contents The subject is: the legal questions and the international complications that arise for transfrontier trade transactions of diverse types: Conflicts of law of the contractual obligations in general; the development on the scene of unification of the law on international commercial contracts in general and the uniform law of international sale of goods in particular; international bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings, plus the operation of the INCOTERMS, the work of UNCTAD and UNIDROIT in this area; and finally assignment and licensing of intellectual property rights (only briefly). We will look at practical matters of drafting international agreements. Initial competences The student must have a sufficiently fluent knowledge of the English language; they must also have acquired some prerequisite knowledge, such as the general introduction to private international law or such as knowledge of commercial transactions. Final competences Students should become familiar with the theoretical notions and discussions. This implies a detailed knowledge of questions of international sales law. Insight into the practical working of several transactions and into their inter-relationship.
