History and Overview

The vision for Christian Educators started with the owners seeking quality alternative resources to meet the educational needs of their own son and eventually other students while serving as teachers in a private school. With over 30 years of experience in education, training and teaching, the owners founded a company that would provide quality, online education materials to parents and students seeking educational alternatives all across America, especially to missionary families. The primary objective of Christian Educators is to provide a high quality, Christian-friendly, college-preparatory, online curriculum for students nationwide that is state-registered and nationally recognized through its accreditation agencies.

Florida State Certification

Christian Educators Academy is officially certified with the State of Florida as an accredited private school. In the State of

Florida, we are registered as a “617” school - a type of private school - and our school code is 3425 under FLDOE

.) We adhere to all Florida

State Standards for record keeping, attendance requirements, course requirements and course coding, and graduation standards. All students enrolled full-time in our school are considered PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS , and must meet Florida

State standards, and participate in curriculum designed to meet core national standards. One of the prime advantages of being enrolled in a state-recognized private school, one that is accredited and meets core national standards is that transcripts and diplomas are officially recognized by colleges and universities nationwide.

Mission Statement:

Our mission at CEA is to provide quality online education with personalized, customized graduation plans for students in all 50 states and for students worldwide.

We strive to maintain a relationship between academic excellence and the dynamics of

Christian life, with the highest quality of educational materials, grounded in Christian Values and beliefs.

We strive for excellence in all areas of the academic process, and hold our students and teachers to the highest academic standards.

Beliefs:

We believe that education is a lifelong process, one that requires freedom and creativity, and that allows for individuality.

While striving for the highest academics, we believe that education is more than just academics, but also entails the development of character and community involvement. We believe there is a relationship between academic excellence and the dynamics of Christian life. We believe in developing honesty, integrity, respect and Godly character in our students, and require these values for our teachers and staff.

Philosophy:

We believe in developing honesty, integrity, respect and Godly character in our students, and require these values for our teachers and staff.

CEA encompasses online education for grades 3 rd through 12 th . We stand by every diploma and transcript we provide. We are not a “diploma mill”, or an accelerated program providing a “short-cut” to the high school education process. Our graduates have proven to surpass public school students in ability, social skills, and study habits, and have excelled on PSAT and SAT tests and college entrance exams.

Goals:

Our goal is to provide personalized, customized accredited online curriculum and academic counseling to each student.

We take a limited number of students each year.

That way, we get to know every student – their goals, dreams and ambitions. We provide all students with a personalized 5 year graduation plan, especially designed for the college bound or career minded. In addition to academic excellence, another one of our goals is to provide students with the necessary resources that encourage them to excel in Christian character development and in activities which give back to their communities.

Code of Ethics:

We strive for excellence, and uphold Christian Values in all areas.

Honesty, integrity, respect and Godly character are required. We reserve the right to dismiss a family for personal and/or academic misconduct, without issuing a refund. Any activity which compromises the academic integrity of Christian Educators and undermines the educational process will be grounds for dismissal. This includes, but is not limited to, cheating, fabrication, plagiarism, unauthorized use of resources, and assisting students in dishonesty.

5

School Statements of Faith:

We strive to maintain a relationship between academic excellence and the dynamics of Christian life, with the highest quality of educational materials, grounded in Christian Values and beliefs.

We believe that "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We believe that Scripture supports home education: "Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching."

We believe that man was created in the image of God, was deceived and fell into sin, and must be "born again", by believing and confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.

We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living for service, and for the building of the "Kingdom of God."

We believe that if you "Train a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not depart from it."

CEA services

Christianeducatorsacademy.com

is a division of Christian Educators Company. CEA offers fully accredited online curriculum– where you can earn an accredited online high school diploma - anywhere, anytime, all online. CEA provides quality online education, with a personalized, customized graduation plan. We strive to maintain a relationship between academic excellence and the dynamics of Christian life, with the highest quality of educational materials, grounded in Christian values and beliefs.

CEA uses a quality, Christian-friendly, college preparatory online curriculum developed by certified teachers. The curriculum meets national standards, and has been fully recognized and accredited by Advanced-ED/NWAC, one of the six US

Creationism even though the theories of the world may be discussed in some of our courses to meet accreditation standards.

We acknowledge that God’s word says to have an answer ready for those who ask,(1 Peter 3:15) therefore, we believe in the high school years that students should be aware of what colleges teach, but have the Christian Perspective. CEA works individually with each student to develop their own educational plan.

This plan starts with the student’s long-term vocational interests, goals, dreams and personal strengths, and allows the student to customize the curriculum to those needs and goals. Although the plan is primarily academically oriented, it also includes objectives for personal development and community service.

Recognizing the fact that our goals evolve over time, students are asked to re-evaluate their plans at least once each year. By helping students to see the direct connection between their academic efforts and their life-long goals, our goal is that students will take ownership and responsibility for their education and be motivated to consistently make their best efforts.

6

CEA’s Primary Student Body:

CEA’s student-body comes from a diverse set of backgrounds. Some of our students/families include:

Missionary families, Military families, and U.S. citizens living overseas.

Students wanting a competitive edge, earning an Honors/AP diploma and transcript.

Students who are amateur or professional athletes, musicians or performers.

Parents whose careers require them to move frequently.

Gifted students with special academic needs that are not met by traditional schools.

Students who want to take dual enrollment courses while completing their high school education.

Students who do not fit into traditional schools for academic, social reasons or other reasons.

Students who live in districts that do not meet national or state academic standards.

Students who are homeschooled and want to take courses to earn an accredited diploma.

Students seeking to incorporate Religious Studies as part of their high school studies.

Students who need flexibility to study at their own pace due to personal circumstances.

Students of any age, race, creed, ethnicity, gender or national origin, wanting to complete their high school education.

CEA welcomes families from all faiths and backgrounds. We publically announce our non-denominational statements of faith in order that those who choose our school clearly understand our point of view, vision, mission and ethical standards.

Students living in the US or abroad may complete their high school education and receive an accredited Florida State Diploma, meeting Florida and national requirements.

Full-Time/Part-time Students

Full-time students must take at least 4 academic courses and are eligible to complete between 6 and 8 or more full-credit courses each year .

Once a student completes the basic courses of math, science, history and English, they may take additional courses (within the 365 day enrollment) at no extra cost.

Full-time students are considered to be enrolled at CEA as private-school students . CEA is responsible for their grades, transcripts and diploma upon graduation.

Part-time students may take individual courses , summer school courses, or honors courses. The flexible, on-line courses offered by CEA are a great way to supplement the student’s primary school. Upon course completion, credit for the courses is transferred back to the student’s primary school. It is the parents/students responsibility to ensure that the primary school will accept CEA transcripts prior to enrolling at CEA.

Admissions

We take pleasure in knowing each and every student, and developing a personal relationship with all our families, therefore, we have a limited enrollment policy. We are a smaller online school,(about 250-300 students) providing one-on-one support, giving personal attention to each family.

We adhere to a non-discriminatory admissions policy , and do not discriminate against applicants, students or anyone else, on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin or religion. Prior to accepting a new student, we require the student and their parents read and acknowledge our Statement of Faith, and to read and consent to our policies and procedures and code of ethics by signing a contract. In addition, all incoming students and their families must have an phone interview with the Admissions Director to ensure that they are academically ready for CEA and that the school has the resources available to meet their particular needs. The Admissions Director may require assessment tests to determine the prospective student’s readiness, and has the final decision as to whether a student may be admitted to the school.

Students are also required to read and sign the CEA Integrity Pledge.

We place special emphasis of academy integrity, which is a commitment to the fundamental Christian values of honesty, truthfulness, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility. The most powerful motive for academic integrity and truthfulness comes from your desire to imitate God’s nature in your life. The purpose of this policy is to set forth the terms of how academic work must be performed. Students will be held responsible for its contents, and must sign the

Academic Integrity Pledge to uphold all Christian Educators Academy standards. This Integrity Policy is found on our website, or email the director at mrsz@christian-educators.com

today for a copy.

11

Enrollment Eligibility

In order to ensure students are prepared for our school, we use a number of assessment criteria to determine eligibility and to set grade level. These can include review of transcripts from other state-certified or regionally-accredited schools, as well as assessment and diagnostic tests.

THESE TESTS ARE OPTIONAL AND ARE AT THE DISCRESSION OF THE DIRECTOR . We also maintain the right to require pre-requisites for many of our courses, for both full-time and part-time students. In addition, prior to enrolling, students must agree to the following:

 Students must be willing to set personal and academic goals.

 Students must be willing to accept responsibility for their study habits and schedules.

 Parents must be willing to review progress regularly.

 Students must be able to read, write and speak English.

 Students must have a computer and access to the internet.

 Students must be willing to take at minimum of 1 credit in Religious Studies or ethics.

 Students must take grade-level courses for credit.

 Students must sign and agree to the CEA Integrity Policy.

 All courses requested must be approved by our Curriculum Director.

Confidentiality

We uphold the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) .

We are committed to protecting our students and family’s privacy and maintaining their confidentiality. Personal information we hold about parents and students, including names, dates of birth, current address, phone and or mobile numbers, email addresses, and occupation and medical records, are kept strictly confidential. Except where required by law, we only disclose personal information to third parties with parent’s consent. We do not disclose names and addresses to third parties. See http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html

for family rights.

Contract agreements

The contract, statement of faith, mission, statement and educational philosophy, and Integrity Policies are covered with all parents/guardians prior to registration. In order to ensure that we have the necessary permission from all parents/guardians, notarized signatures MAY BE REQUIRED from each parent or guardian, if families are not living in the same household. All parents/guardians must: acknowledge they have read and understand and agree to all the terms and conditions and admissions requirements; and agree to conform with all state and district educational requirements in which the family resides. These contracts are legally binding. All parents/guardians must understand that failing to provide or falsifying any information is grounds for immediate termination of the contract and dismissal from the school.

To enroll full-time in CEA, the following documents must be submitted as required by Florida law:

Birth certificate

Immunization records

Previous school records, including transcripts

Completed registration packet, with all signed contract agreements

Tuition/Payment Contract agreement

Integrity Pledge

Passport photo for student file and student ID if requested

Interview with Director

12

Health/Immunization Records

Parents/guardians will be expected to provide verification of immunizations or a religious waiver signed by a Florida licensed physician.

Students moving to Florida, and enrolling in our Florida based private school must obtain a “entry Health exam” prior to enrollment.

Florida State Law requires all FLORIDA students in public and private schools to provide CEA with a copy of the BLUE Immunization form from the Health Department on file 30 days after enrollment.

Previous School Records

Prior to registering full-time students, parents must sign a release which allows CEA to obtain official copies of the student’s previous school records and high school transcripts. CEA will accept credits from any state-certified or regionally accredited school. The director holds the right to determine the number of credits accepted, as well as the grades given. Grades must meet our grading scale. Credit for students coming from a homeschool environment is granted on the basis of portfolio assessments and/or examinations which demonstrate the student’s knowledge and skill level.

Transferring into and out of our school

We accept students from all 50 states and worldwide .

All full-time students become Florida Private School Students . Although we are officially registered as a private school in the State of Florida and regionally accredited by Advanced-ED/NWAC, no institution can guarantee other public or private high schools or colleges will accept our diploma and transcripts. Private and public schools have the right to deny other schools credits.

Because CEA is accredited by top agencies and we meet core national standards, we have never had an issue with transferring credits; however; it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to check the policies of any institutions to which they may want to transfer our credits or diplomas prior to enrolling with us.

Attendance/Truancy

Although our students are free to complete their lessons at the places and times most convenient for them , state attendance requirements still apply. Students must complete at least 15-20 hours of work per course per week. CEA’s on-line systems allow teachers and administrators to determine if students are spending the required amount of time on each lesson. In addition, each student must show they have been “in school” for at least 180 days each year. A maximum of nine unexcused absences in a school year will be allowed before a student is required to take summer school in order to pass and satisfy attendance policy. Since CEA is a non-traditional school program with off-campus students, inquiries of truancy, DMV verifications, DCF complaints or other state officer inquiries may occur. CEA will provide letters of verification and proof of attendance. If needed, the director will attend court hearings. To comply with labor laws, parents may request student ID cards from CEA, which display the school name and contact information as well as the student’s name and identification number.

Student File requirements and online grading system

We maintain all pertinent records, including student information, health forms, attendance, grades, report cards, PE verification forms and a sampling of work including all tests and scores. We recommend two passport pictures of each student. All information is kept in a confidential file at the business office, according to the standards set forth by the Florida State Board of Education. All records are kept electronically, with a back-up secured system.

The Director and Administrator are the only ones with access to all personal records. Complete confidentiality is maintained. Christian

Educators uses an online grading and records keeping system called ORBUND.

We keep all students grades on line to provide parents immediate access to transcripts, grades, communication to teachers, and upcoming events and news. Each parent is assigned a unique username and password allowing them access to the information they are privileged to see.

We only post transcript grades on a semester basis or when a course has been completed.

13

Transcript release

Once a student withdraws or is dismissed from the school,(but be in writing or by email) parents may request a transcript be forwarded to another private or public school via fax or mail. Transcripts will only be issued to the new school for students whose records are complete, and all payments have been paid in full. An unofficial copy of the transcript will be forwarded to the parents.

Only credits earned with Christian Educators Academy will be forwarded to another private or public high school.

Once a student has graduated, a transcript with our official school seal will be sent to up to five colleges of the students/parent choice.

Student/Parent services, conferences, and meetings

CEA provides a full range of comprehensive guidance services, including individual counseling referrals, personal, career and college counseling and guidance, course selection assistance, and collaborative community outreach. Parents must meet with the Director by phone each year. The purpose of these meetings is to review progress, plans and concerns, as methodology and curriculum. When we feel students are having difficulty staying on track, parents will be notified by email and/or by phone to discuss a plan to motivate students to continue their online studies. Students are encouraged to participate in the yearly meetings to express their desires and concerns and to develop their 5-year graduation plan. Students are highly encouraged to stay in touch with CEA after graduation to give us feedback as to what aspects of our program worked for them and how we can improve.

Online Good Standing standards:

Students must follow the course outline on a weekly basis, for a minimum period of 36 weeks. All students have access to classes daily

(except during our 2 week summer vacation) to complete assigned classes. They must:

 Have a yearly meeting with the Director to cover all requirements for their 5 year graduation plan.

 Complete one lesson per subject per week, or show online progress in all subjects.

 Maintain ethics standards by completing all work independently.

 Meet academic standards, including maintaining a 2.0 average in all subjects.

 Take responsibility to contact the Director if he/she has difficulty keeping to the schedule set by the Director.

 Agree to meet state requirements regarding attendance completing 180 days each year.

 Understand that teachers have the right to give alternative lessons or assignments, mid-terms and final exams.

 Understand that cheating, which includes cutting and pasting material, using work completed by others, and paraphrasing or quoting without giving proper credit, will result in a failed course grade.

 Maintain Christian moral and ethical standards in and out of the classroom.

Dismissal Policies

Students may be dismissed if the following guidelines are not followed:

 Parents do not provide documentation for each of the required subjects to graduate per Florida State law.

 Parents do not provide a copy of child’s birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records, and other requirements.

 Failure to agree and commit to all contract agreements and Florida Department of Education requirements.

 Failure to have yearly interviews with the Director or Administrator.

 Failure to comply with our Code of Ethics or misrepresenting CEA.

 Failure to keep financial agreements.

 Failure to provide consent– with notarized signature release.

 Students caught cheating, continued use of plagiarism, copying, cut-and-pasting of work, or any Integrity Policy violations.

Diploma Choice

Full-time students will receive a Florida State accredited diploma upon completion of high school. Because we have students in all 50 states and abroad, we offer a formal ceremony, as long as 25 or more graduates are willing to participate.

Our ceremonies are held in Orlando,

Florida, on May 25th. Transcripts are forwarded FREE to any and all colleges of choice.

 The College Preparatory Track, Standard Academic Diploma is a competitive diploma for college-bound students and for students planning to enter the Armed Forces. Students who choose this diploma must take all College Preparatory courses, should maintain a 2.5 grade point average, and are required to complete the SAT or ACT exam.

14

 The Honors/Advanced Placement Track, Academic Diploma is designed to give students a competitive edge, and is for students planning to apply to a four year college or university. Students who choose this diploma should maintain a 3.5 grade point average, score above the national average on the SAT in all portions of the exam, and take a minimum of 8 honors or AP courses prior to graduating. In addition, it is highly recommended that students take at least one AP course or a dual enrollment course, and complete three years in a world language, as this is required by some colleges.

 Christian Educators Academy offers a Career Prep Track, Academic Diploma.

This is for the student who wants to start work immediately after graduation or for students who may want to attend a career or technical college. Students must take 6 or more courses in career training and pass courses with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Students must meet the standards for a standard diploma, plus the career prep electives.

This choice is NOT recommended for college bound, or military minded students.

It’s all about credits

A high school credit is the successful completion of two semesters, consisting of 80-90 hours or 90 days for each subject per semester, or a total of 160-180 hours of instruction over a period of 180 days.

Students work at their own pace and time frame, with some students completing work earlier.

Most high school students will be using APEX. With Apex curriculum, there are two semesters for most of the one credit courses.

Although students have one full year to complete Apex courses and can work at their own pace, we like students to TRY and keep to a typical schedule. This means completing one semester work within 18 weeks and a full-credit course within 36 weeks or 180 days.

There are usually 6-8 units in each semester, sometimes more, sometimes less. Each semester is 18 weeks long. We can assign due dates for each course, but knowing what is expected of you is important.

Weekly emails are sent to “coaches” or parents.

Have a Plan

before

you begin- our suggested 5 year plan

CEA’s high school graduates not only receive a superior education, they tend to be well-rounded and grounded, and have a passion for life. Our graduates usually surpass public school students in ability, social skills, study habits, and tend to excel on SAT and ACT exams.

Preparing for college begins in the eighth grade, and SAT scores are not the only criteria colleges look at. College admissions officers look for the student who is well-rounded, self-motivated and self-directed. These officers are very selective, and look for a student that is a

“cut above,” and willing to take more than the “minimum” number of course requirements, as well as the students who excel on the SAT and ACT exams.

We work with each student individually to develop a 3-5 year career oriented on college bound academic goals and dreams . This is an academically-oriented plan, with an emphasis on looking forward and preparing for life after high school. Each student receives a 3-5 year plan. This plan is designed for students entering the 8 school.

th grade to use for academic and career planning, helping students focus on the connection between course work, civil and social responsibilities, and personal goals, dreams and values during and after high

As students understand themselves, explore the world around them and establish goals for their futures, they begin to see why an online education is important. Students no longer attend school simply to receive a diploma or avoid truancy. Instead, students understand the connection between success in school today and success in their lives and careers tomorrow. Students take responsibility for their own future.

We recommend that students complete one unit every 3 weeks to complete one semester within 18-20 weeks. Time spent on each lesson is monitored carefully by the administrator, and weekly updates are emailed to the parents. While we encourage students to take as many classes as they can FULLY complete within one year registration date.

There are no short-cuts to the academic process.

Grading Policy and Final Grades

At the high school level, one of our teachers must review all additional work submitted. We adhere to the following grading scale:

A = 96-94= 3.75 A- = 93-90 = B+ = 89-87, B = 86-84, B- = 83-80, C+ = 79-77, C = 76-74, C- = 73-70 D = 68-69

A+ = 4.0, A = 3.75, A-= 3.50, B+ = 3.25, B = 3.0, B- 2.75, C+ 2.50, C = 2.25, C- = 2,0 D+ = 1.0

Honors/AP Grading Scale (weighted grading)

A = 96-94= 3.75 A- = 93-90 = B+ = 89-87, B = 86-84, B- = 83-80, C+ = 79-77, C = 76-74, C- = 73-70

A+ =5.0, A =4.75, A-= 3.50, B+ =4.25, B = 4.0, B- 3.75, C+ 3.50: no grade below a C+ is accepted

NOTE: Although we transfer in passing grades (68-100) from other private and public schools, we do not accept any grade lower than a

70 from students taking classes at CEA.

We also require end of year evaluations, including the SAT or ACT exam with average scores. All students must take the SAT or ACT unless they are on a Career Path diploma choice. Then we require the Terra Nova Standardized Test.

Dual enrollment opportunities

Christian Educators encourages and highly recommends dual enrollment for high school students. This allows a student to take a course that simultaneously provides credit for both high school and college. Even though we offer many AP courses, we recommend Dual

Enrollment instead of taking an AP course for credit for several reasons. To receive AP credit, a student must take an AP course and take the collegeboard AP Exam.

Students CANNOT GET AP CREDIT WITHOUT THIS EXAM, OR COMPLETING OF THE ENTIRE COURSE.

If a student fails the exam, an AP credit cannot be awarded.

Acceptance of AP credits as a college credit is not a guarantee, whereas, a dual enrollment credit always provides both the high school credit and college credit.

The student also has a college transcript for all courses completed. Dual Enrollment courses are available through local community colleges or some online colleges. Students with dual enrollment credits have an advantage when applying to universities. Students are required to be working toward College Preparatory Diploma, with a minimum of 5 honors courses, maintaining a 3.0 average before enrolling in a Dual Enrollment Program. All courses must be approved by the Curriculum Director. Once a course has been completed, the final grades must be submitted to the business office.

CLEP Exams

Every student has the right to take subject-proficiency tests (CLEP exams) to earn high school and college credit. These exams are administered at locations around the country, and are operated by the College Board. Motivated high school students who have a good grasp of a subject should not miss this opportunity to earn high school and college credit. It is the best kept secret for high school students! CLEP exams are available for Algebra, American Government, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English Composition, Trigonometry,

Western Civilization, and many foreign languages. All CLEP test results must be submitted to our Curriculum Director to receive credit. For more information, visit www.collegeboard.com/CLEP .

Initial Assessment and Standardized testing, Exit Requirements

CEA has developed diagnostic tools for students in all grades which evaluate logic and reasoning skills, reading/comprehension skills, language usage ability, composition skills and mathematic ability. Assessments and diagnostics may be required for entrance into online classes, as determined by the Curriculum Director.

Diagnostic tests are not required.

Through our partnership with ACSI, we offer the Terra Nova Standardized multiple-choice assessments that helps educators worldwide determine student achievement in real time for grades 3 through 12. Online assessments allow for automated capture, real-time reporting and scoring, and immediate normative analysis. There is no physical commitment on the part of school administrators and instructors to store, distribute, organize, and ship thousands of booklets and answer documents . We require testing for 3rd, 5th and 8th grades, as well as for seniors choosing the Career Path Diploma.

Because it is mandatory for these grades, the testing will be part of your tuition price.

Yearly Online Surveys

Our accreditation agency, NWAC, requires Christian Educators Academy to require yearly surveys from both parents and students. This is an easy form that helps us assess how we do: with communication, course materials, teacher assessments, etc… This survey is online, and will be emailed to you online prior to the issuance of transcripts.

THE PSAT, SAT and ACT

PSAT’s are important because they can qualify a student to receive scholarships that may provide full tuition, room & board, financing for graduate school, stipends to study abroad, and more. They may also identify a student as a National Merit Scholar placing him or her in the top 1% of all students, making him or her attractive to the top colleges and qualifying him or her for additional scholarships.

We advise students to register and take this exam in their sophomore year.

SAT’s are the most widely recognized and accepted assessment tool, required by virtually all colleges and universities. Students generally take the SAT in their Junior and Senior years. The SAT assesses a student’s reasoning, based on knowledge and skills developed by the student’s school coursework. One third of the new SAT includes composition, or writing skills. Students can take this test more than once. Register online for the PSAT or SAT tests at: www.Collegeboard.org

. Please note that on this website you can take practice exams.

The SAT II test is subject-area specific. These tests are one-hour, consisting of mostly multiple-choice tests that measure how much students know about a particular academic subject and how well they can apply that knowledge. The subject tests include Literature, US History, World History, Math Level 1 and 2, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and many World Language tests.

The ACT Test is a widely accepted college entrance exam – especially in the mid-west and western states. This test assesses students’ general educational development, and their ability to complete college-level work. This test is a multiple-choice test which covers four basic skill areas: English, mathematics, reading and science. The writing test is optional. It measures skills in planning and essaywriting. Students usually take this test only once. Register for the ACT test at: www.ACT.org

Financial Aid

College is a huge financial investment for students and their families. Financial aid may be available to any student, regardless of the parent’s financial status. It is important to investigate and understand the different types and sources of aid available, as early as the fall of the student’s junior year. Many local high schools offer college planning workshops for parents and students. These meetings give up-to-date information on student loans, scholarship funding, and government grant opportunities. These workshops are free to the public. One of the most valuable web sites for information about scholarships and federal aid opportunities is: www.studentaid.ed.gov.

Don’t waste your time and money on high priced financial aid advisors or agencies that promise to do all the research for available scholarships. They cannot get you anything you cannot get for free. The competition for aid is fierce. Do your research, know what your options are – and apply early. Most colleges offer a variety of financial options. Remember that if a college admits you – they want you, and will be willing to work with you! 80% of financial aid is in the federal programs and all of it is available through the college financial aid officer. The department of Education publishes a yearly Student Guide. This guide describes all the federal financial aid programs. It also details when, where and how to apply. You can download a free Student guide book and the FAFSA application at www.ed.gov.

To prepare to apply for federal student aid, be sure to get a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov.

This will enable you to complete your financial aid application and access your information online. The student and one parent must get a PIN.

In early January of the senior year, ( after taxes have been completed) students should register with the FAFSA (Free application for federal student aid). The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

A good college-search begins with a self-assessment, and ends with a greater self-awareness. The process of discovering who you are, your likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and your goals and dreams are infinitely important. Guard against making a quick decision or following the easiest path. Keep all avenues and options open. Be flexible. Explore all possibilities. Know what you expect from a college, as well as why you want to go to a particular college. There are several books to help you in the selection process.

It is important to make a list of colleges you are interested in. Your college education will be a financial investment for you and your family. Involve your parents in the process. College visits will help you determine the wisdom of your investment. The number of colleges to which you apply totally depends on your personal situation and choice. It is recommended that your list include between five and eight colleges. Most college application fees are between $50 and $100. Applying to a large number of schools can be expensive. Have a quality choice. Quality is always better than quantity! The College Admissions Process is not the same for all colleges. All candidates, however, will go through an academic process. These are some of the basic admission steps:

 All colleges require candidates to complete a personal application form

 Most colleges require some form of entrance exam

 Almost all colleges require ACT and/or SAT testing

 All colleges require a copy of a student’s official high school transcript

 All colleges require an official high school diploma

 Colleges may ask candidates to specify the academic degree they plan to pursue

 Most colleges require three or more recommendations

 Most colleges will ask candidates to write a personal statement or essay

 Some colleges advise candidates to submit an academic resume’

 Some colleges require SAT II testing in math and science

23

CEA’s SAT and ACT scores

Many dynamics play a part in the college admission process: essays, interviews, community involvement, GPA and your SAT scores.

Who cares about your SAT scores? Colleges; most do, anyway. There are three sections on the SAT: Writing, Math and Critical Reading worth a possible 800 points each. An average SAT score is around 1540 out of 2400 points. Students with an average SAT score have many options, but a score above 2100 would place you in the 90th cause the “name brand” schools to take a closer look at your admission application.

 SAT and ACT scores are consistently higher than the national average.

 CEA graduates have been accepted to top colleges and universities nationwide.

 98% of our graduates continue their education in colleges and universities around the country, or enter the United States

Armed Forces.

CEA Integrity Agreement and Policies

Our mission at CEA is to provide quality online education with personalized, customized graduation plans and curriculum choices for students in all 50 states and for missionary students worldwide.

We strive to maintain a relationship between academic excellence and the dynamics of Christian life, with the highest quality of educational materials, grounded in Christian Values and beliefs.

We strive for excellence in the academic process, and hold our students to the highest academic standards.

INTENT:

We strive to develop honesty, integrity, respect and Godly character in our students. According the Christian philosophy of

Christian Educators Academy and Scriptural principles in the Word of God, we are committed to maintaining the highest quality of personal, professional and ethical conduct. All students have a responsibility to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity in all work completed at Christian Educators Academy.

We place special emphasis of academy integrity, which is a commitment to the fundamental Christian values of honesty, truthfulness, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility. The most powerful motive for academic integrity and truthfulness comes from your desire to imitate God’s nature in your life.

PURPOSE:

While a student at Christian Educators Academy, you agree to abide by our principles of Academic Integrity Policy. The purpose of this policy is to set forth the terms of how academic work must be performed. Students will be held responsible for its contents, and

must sign the Academic Integrity Pledge

in our Registration portion. (see last page) to uphold all Christian Educators Academy standards. The Pledge is included

DEFINITION OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

Academic integrity is defined as the student completing all academic work on their own, as assigned for each class. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

A. Logging in and reading all lesson materials

B. Taking quizzes and tests independently

C. Completing essays, practices, journals, and other coursework

D. Gathering research and writing research papers/projects

PRINCIPLES REGARDING ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

Academic integrity at Christian Educators Academy is based on a respect for individual achievement. Every faculty member and student belongs to a community where Biblical and academic integrity is a fundamental commitment. We hold our teachers and students to the highest standards.

OUR STANDARDS:

To protect the value of your accredited academic record with Christian Educators Academy, we maintain the highest standards of integrity and honor in all academic work. The essence of these standards is a respect for individual achievement and an intolerance of any form of lying, cheating, fabrication, all forms of plagiarism, unauthorized use of resources, assisting other students in academic dishonesty, or anything that threatens to devalue academic achievement with integrity and honesty.

25

ACADEMIC DISONESTY:

Academic dishonesty is the deliberate attempt to misrepresent your individual efforts, whether in attendance via log on times, online lesson reading and review, writing, taking tests and quizzes or presentations. There are five major categories:

1.

CHEATING: using unauthorized notes, study aides, altering a grade, allowing someone else to do your work, submitting identical or similar work for credit.

2.

PLAGIARISM: submitting material that in part or whole is NOT entirely your own work without attributing the written work or portions to the correct source.

3.

FABRICATION: falsifying or inventing any information, data, or presenting data not gathered in accordance to guidelines set forth by the teacher.

4.

UNFAIR ADVANTAGE: stealing, reproducing, or circulating course materials prior to authorization by faculty.

Unauthorized collaborating on an assignment.

5.

FALSIFCATION: Altering documents that affect academic records, forging signatures or falsifying information on an official academic document, letter, transcript ID card or any other school document.

PLAGIARISM:

One of most common forms of online learning academic dishonesty is plagiarism. Christian Educators Academy has dedicated an entire section in our integrity policy to this critical issue . Plagiarism is clearly an act of theft and fraud.

To claim work as your own, without acknowledgement or citation is academic dishonesty. Plagiarism, either by copying or paraphrasing without citation, is a violation with serious consequences. Plagiarism is misrepresenting information and may be willful or negligent. In either case, this is a serious offense and students are subject to strict penalties. In accordance to accreditation standards,

Christian Educators Academy has instituted a professional plagiarism check, used by all teachers.

If you copy work from another source, we will find it!

VIOLATIONS OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY, INCLUDING PLAGIARISM:

The first and most important thing to note in this section is our “heart” in encountering plagiarism. Our goal is educational, not punitive. Plagiarism is a serious issue, and is becoming more and more common with the rise of the internet. It is treated very seriously by colleges and universities, where the consequences are often more severe, so it’s something CEA needs to take very seriously. That being said, our desire is not to punish, but to use it as a teachable moment. Yes, there are real consequences for plagiarism issues, but there is also a desire on our part to work through it with a student and move forward. Suspected cases of academic dishonesty (any form of cheating) are immediately reported to the Director. Students charged with academic dishonesty, in any form, will be informed of the infraction by the teacher. The Director will notify the parents or legal guardian with proof of the infraction.

Student financial aid information

College could be a huge financial investment for students and their families. Financial aid may be available to any student, regardless of the parent’s financial status. It is important to investigate and understand the different types and sources of aid available, as early as the fall of the student’s junior year. One of the most valuable web sites for information about scholarships and federal student aid opportunities is: www.studentaid.ed.gov.

The department of Education publishes a yearly Student Guide.

This guide describes all the federal financial aid programs. It also details when, where and how to apply. You can download a free

Student guide book and the FAFSA application at www.ed.gov

. To help prepare our students for college and beyond, Christian

Educators Academy has prepared the “Pursuit of Excellence” workbook. Please email the office at Mrsz@christian-educators.com
