I am a resource person of new proposed BSc, MSc, and PhD Mathematics Programmes for

Commission for University Education (CUE) since the year 2001.

Some of the programmes that I have reviewed and are currently running in various

Universities are:

MSc Statistics, MSc Applied Mathematics, Msc Pure Mathematics at Catholic University of

East Africa (CUEA).

BSc Mathematics and Computer Science offered at Kenya Methodist University (KEMU). 2.

3. BSc Mathematics, Actuarial Science offered at Kiriri Women University of Science and

Technology (KIWUST).

BSc Mathematics and Economics offered at Kabarak University. 4.

(b) Curriculum Development for JKUAT

I have successfully led and coordinated a team which designed the following academic programmes in JKUAT.

6.

Writing of an MSc course in Biometry, Faculty of Agriculture (2006) – JKUAT.

Writing of regulations for postgraduate diploma in Faculty of Science (November 2005).

Writing of an MSc course in Applied Statistics, 2005) – JKUAT

Writing of postgraduate diploma course in Applied Statistics (2005) – JKUAT.

Writing of a BSc syllabus in Actuarial Science, (2001). The course is very popular and is run in five centres: JKUAT Nairobi Campus, JKUAT Karen Campus, JKUAT Main campus, and

Kimathi University of Science and Technology.

Writing of syllabus for Bridging course in Mathematics (1999), currently offered in JKUAT,

Loreto Msongari, Bandari (Mombasa), KSPS, KCA, Kisumu, Nyanchwa, Kagumo, Muranga e.t.c. The development of this curriculum was the first of its kind in the history of higher education and has since been adopted by all the Universities in the country (both private

9. and public). The electronic mode of this curriculum to be piloted in two centres through e-

Learning is now ready (2008)

Writing of regulations and syllabus for Alternative BSc. programme in Mathematics and

Computer Science (1999/2000). This curriculum is run in three campuses: JKUAT main campus, Taita Taveta Campus, and Karen Campus.

Writing of syllabus for Bsc Computer Science in JKUAT (1998/1999). Thereafter ICSIT was born and the course is very popular.

MSc syllabus for Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (1996/1997).

All the above programmes are very successful and have provided substantial funds for the

University.

1.

I was a member of a team that developed:

The current popular Bachelor of Information Technology Curriculum (BIT) – (1999). This curriculum is currently run in JKUAT IT Centre, Nairobi Centre, Kenya College of

Accountancy, Loreto Msongari, Augustuna College and all the colleges and campuses of

JKUAT.

(c) Curriculum Resource Debelopment/Products

3.

1., Member of a team who successfully wrote a book:

“ Introduction to Probability and Statistics ”.

2. Member of a team who wrote a manuscript in

“Probability and Statistics for Univariate Distributions.”

I inspired and pioneered the development of bridging Certificate course in Mathematics

FIVE teaching manuals for

. The manuals are currently

2005

2006

2006 being sold and distributed by JKUATES to all centres offering this programme

Each manual costs Ksh. 500. In this project, we were to generate for the University

A profit of over Ksh. 2 Million, a significant boost in the University IGU basket.

(d) University Policy Documents

1. 1999:

I developed and institutionalized JKUAT Full Time Staff Equivalent (FTSE) Model. This model is currently being used by the University in assessing the Academic Staff requirements (both Full and Part Time) for every department in the University. The

University adopted this model from the year 2000.

Prof. Romanus Odhiambo Page

2. 2005:

I chaired a sub-committee of Deans’ Committee which was charged with the responsibility of developing a harmonized Financial Management Policy of Fees Paying Programmes to be used by all faculties, schools and institutes in JKUAT. This document is now being used by the University and has rationalized the distribution of finances generated by Income

Generating Units (IGUs) in the University.

3. 2008 :

I successfully chaired an adhoc sub-committee of senate charged with formulating the strategies that can be used to ensure prompt start of teaching at the beginning of the semester. The report was submitted to the University Management for implementation.

4. 2008 :

I developed a concept not for the University Management on the need of Quality

Assurance Office in the University and TORs for such office. The University has now accepted the concept and the office is being created.

5.

5.

4.

2010:

I successfully chaired a sub-committee of Deans’ Committee charted with the revision of the University Statute. The revised version of the Statutes has now been presented to both the senate and the University Management Board (UMB).

6.

12. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

1. 2011 to date:

Chairman, Board of Governance at Kitabaye Mixed Secondary School, Migori.

2.

2010:

I chaired a sub-committee of the University Management Board (UMB) that has come up with a new source of finance for the University.

2011 to date:

Member, Board of Governance at St. Peter Abwao Secondary School (Centre of Excellence),
