This is my first season here at De Montfort Hall and even though I’ve been here just a short while, I can already see why it’s a venue that is cherished by so many people and has a strong history of giving the people of Leicestershire great entertainment. Mahler’s Fifth Symphony follows a clear progression from a mood of dark despair to joyful reconciliation. The opening of the fourth movement, the Adagietto, is by far the best-known and is often performed by itself. Travelling by public transport to De Montfort Hall is relatively easy and because of the limited car parking is strongly recommended when attending performances and events at the Hall. We advise that you allow plenty of time for your journey and parking so as not to miss performance start time. By Bus De Montfort Hall can be easily reached by a number of bus routes close to the venue with the nearest bus stops at London Road and University Road. By Train Leicester railway station is approximately a 15-minute walk from the venue with services provided by East Midlands Trains from London at just over an hour and additional routes from Derby, Nottingham, Lincoln, Sheffield and Leeds. CrossCountry provide further services with routes from Birmingham, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport. The Hall is well signposted on the inner ring road. If using the M1 come off at Junction 21 and follow the signs for the outer ring road A563 (Leicester South and East), turning left along the A50 or A6. By Cycle Route Secure cycle racks are available adjacent to the building in the front gardens for those that arrive on bicycle. For recommended cycle routes from your area to De Montfort Hall please visit www.cycle-route.com. www.demontforthall.co.uk Parking De Montfort Hall has its own secure car park with 92 spaces located next to the venue off University Road. This car park is only available to customers on evenings and weekends and must be pre-booked through our Box Office. Disabled access parking for a performance at De Montfort Hall is available free of charge and must be pre-booked through our Box Office. As of the 1st of April 2012 pre-booked parking is £3 and, if available, can be purchased up until 5pm on the day of an evening performance or up to 2 hours before a weekend matinee performance. Parking for customers who have not pre-booked is £5 on arrival to the car park. There are two public car parks situated within a 5-minute walk of the venue - Victoria Park Pay & Display car park with 133 spaces (6 disabled bays) and Granville Road Pay & Display with up to 65 spaces. Both of these car parks are not administered or associated to De Montfort Hall. Please be aware that on popular and sell-out performances, or if there are other events nearby, both of these public car parks can quickly become full and the high flow of traffic may result in periods of congestion on the intersection of Granville Road and Regent Road. We advise that you allow plenty of time for your journey and parking so as not to miss performance start time. Drop Off and Collect For your convenience car and coach drivers can drop off and collect customers from the front entrance of De Montfort Hall with a maximum stay of 10 minutes. Access 45 Access Venue accessibility De Montfort Hall welcomes all patrons and makes every effort to provide a venue that is accessible to all. Our staff are here to help; please do not hesitate to approach any staff member for assistance during your visit. To ensure that any special requirements you have are met, we ask that all patrons who use a wheelchair, are registered disabled or have specific seating or access requests to please contact the Box Office direct. Wheelchair spaces and disabled concessions are not available through online booking. There are level access pathways leading up to the building with step-free access at the main entrance with automatic glass sliding doors that allows disabled customers and people with limited mobility to gain entry without the need for assistance. On the ground floor there is level access to the Box Office, auditorium, bars and toilets. The venue has three levels - ground floor, front circle mezzanine, and upper circle. A lift is available to all levels with a voice message and display screen indicating each level. Accessible Toilets Our accessible toilet facilities are at ground and upper circle level and are signposted in the building. Accessible toilets are locked using a RADAR key system, which staff members have available if necessary. Fire and Emergency In the event of an emergency, lifts will not be available for use. Trained staff members and Evac Chairs are available to assist with exiting for those with mobility problems. Wheelchair Users For wheelchair users and people with limited mobility there is flat, level access to the stalls. There is level access into the venue and auditorium, with wheelchair spaces available and lift access to all floors. Please inform the Box Office when booking seats if you or a member of your party is a wheelchair user so that an appropriate position can be allocated. For standing performances there is an accessible viewing platform available with uncompromised sightlines. 2-for-1 Ticket Scheme We offer a 2-for-1 ticket scheme on selected performances that enable disabled people who require a Personal Assistant to receive a free ticket for a Personal Assistant, allowing disabled patrons the same opportunity to attend performances as other patrons. One-time registration with the Box Office is required and proof of access requirements met. Disabled Access Parking Blue badge holders can park in the front entrance of the Hall free of charge by booking one of the 20 disabled access spaces in advance directly through Box Office. Spaces will be held up to 30 minutes before the show begins and then released on a first come, first serve basis. Facilities for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Visitors The auditorium is fitted with an infra-red T hearing system. Patrons are welcome to collect an infra-red necklet receiver to be used in conjunction with your hearing aid from the cloakroom. These do not need to be booked in advance, but proof of identity will be required. A British Sign Language interpreter is available on select performances indicated on the individual show pages in the brochure and on our website. The interpreter will stand in a clearly visible position and interpret the spoken and hearing aspects of the show. Payment Methods De Montfort Hall offers different methods of payment when booking a ticket. Cash: only accepted in person, please do not send by post. Credit or Debit Card: Visa, Mastercard, Switch/Maestro and Solo. Cheque and Postal Orders: Made payable to Leicester City Council and supported with a valid cheque guarantee card. Transaction Fee De Montfort Hall charges a one-off fee of £3.00 per transaction to cover the administration costs for service provision, processing and handling associated with each ticket sale. The transaction fee applies per order not per ticket and does not apply to group bookings of 10 or more. Organ recitals and Leicester- Shire Schools Music concerts are excluded from the transaction fee. Reservations Tickets can be reserved with payment due within four working days. Reservations are immediately released for sale when the deadline for payment expires. We cannot reserve tickets on first day of sale. Discounts, refunds & vouchers Concessions Concession prices, when available as shown with show details apply to over 60s, under 16s, students, disabled people and Jobseekers unless otherwise stated. Certain discounts also apply to The Card+ holders. Proof of concessionary status will be required. Only one concession per ticket, and restrictions apply. Ticket Resale We reserve the right not to accept tickets for re-sale. However, when we do accept tickets for resale, this will only be once all other available tickets are sold. There is a £3 handling charge and any previous transaction charges are non-refundable. Gift Vouchers A De Montfort Hall gift voucher is a perfect gift to first class entertainment, allowing recipients to choose www.demontforthall.co.uk from an exciting and diverse programme of shows including musicals, comedy, concerts, ballet, family events, classical and opera. Gift vouchers are available in any denomination and are redeemable at our Box Office for any performance or event we sell. There is no transaction charge on gift vouchers. Please note that gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase and cannot be purchased online. Refunds and Exchanges Refunds are not permitted except in the case of performance cancellation. However, tickets may be exchanged for a different date or time of the same performance if returned to the Box Office at least 24 hours before the performance. In all cases original tickets must be returned to the Box Office. There is a £3 handling charge and any previous transaction charges are non-refundable. Drinks Bar Hours Bars open one hour before show start time and close 11pm or 30 minutes after show end time, whichever is later. Please note that some private hire shows do not request bar service. We reserve the right to modify bar closing times for late night events or at times of low after show patronage. Please ask our friendly bar staff on the night for that evening’s performance bar opening times. Drinks in the Auditorium Depending on the show’s format you may or may not be able to bring drinks into the auditorium of De Montfort Hall. You are welcome to take your drinks into the ground floor only of the auditorium for dance floor or cabaret formats, as well as major festivals. However, they must be decanted into plastic cups. For standing gigs, only plastic bottles with their tops removed will be allowed. For seated shows, alcoholic, open top, or hot drinks are not permitted, although cartons and plastic bottled water are allowed. Alcoholic beverages are never permitted in the balcony area. Interval Drinks Beat the rush - order and pay for your interval drinks at the bar before the start of most shows. Please note interval drinks may not be available for all performances. Proof of Age If you are fortunate enough to look under 21, we may ask you to prove you are 18 or over. We accept the following: passport, photo driving licence or government ‘prove it’ card. Seating Plan This seating plan gives a general overview of the main auditorium in a standard tiered seating format. Due to the great variety of events we put on at the hall we have other formats that we use such as standing, dance floor (with limited table spaces) and flat floor seating. Drinks can be taken in downstairs for the dance floor format only. Even the tiered format shown here can change. For example, for musicals the front row will normally be row F. We hope the image will assist you when choosing your seats, but would recommend that you check with Box Office staff exactly which format is being used for any given event before purchasing your tickets. Wheelchair places Wheelchair spaces are available in the auditorium and their position for each show depends on the set-up of the performance.
