New law for
war veterans
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino recently signed into law a bill which
seeks to increase the burial assistance for war veterans from
P10,000 to P20,000.
The bill was authored by Bataan
1st District Rep. Herminia B. Roman, chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and
Welfare.
According to the good congresswoman, she will also be appealing
for the approval of other bills giving
more assistance to war veterans.
Interviews with veterans reveal
that the law came a little “too
late”, but they still appreciate it.
One of them said: “Malaking tulong ito sa aming mga maiiwan.”
It’s a bit saddening that little
has been done for our war veterans, who have life and limb for our
country’s independence. At least
our lawmakers are doing their best
to help them, any way they can, to
uplift their living conditions and
that of their families.
That’s why it’s good to know that
public officials here in Central Luzon are also extending assistance
to our war veterans, their spouses
and their families. After all, we
have a lot to thank them for.

But everything happens
for a reason kaya napunta sa
ABS-CBN ang girlfriend ni
Luis Manzano.
For sure, kapag ikinasal
na sina Luis at Angel, may
taga-GMA pa rin siyang kukunin na sponsors.
Teka, mas una yatang

R
ECENTLY watched a
concert of Michael Pangilinan at the Music Museum and I must say na talaga
namang minsan pa, pinatunayan ni Michael that he is the
ultimate and newest heartthrob
sa music industry.
Sa mga
nakaraang
concert niya
sa ibang
venue, nakayang punuin ni
Michael ang
mga lugar na
pinagdausan
ng concert,
but this time,
talaga namang dumagsa ang
maraming kaibigan, kapamilya
at mga tagahanga ni Michael
to join him in that momentous
event.
Tatak-Jobert Sucaldito
talaga ang success ng concert na
ito ni Michael, kagaya ng mga
nagdaan na niya, starting when
he was a wannabe. Ngayon, certified hitmaker na si Michael after proving in his signature song
na “Pare, Kaibigan Lang Kita”
na isinali sa nakaraang Himig
Handog. Di man winner ang
ni Kris Aquino when Michael
Paano
raw ba nabigyan ng tamang
emosyon ni Michael ang awitin,
ibig daw bang sabihin nito,
Michael has gone through such
a thing?
“Bago ko tinanggap, I went
through the lyrics, at wala
naman akong nakitang di ko
gusto. I just sang the song the
way like, that if that happens in
my real life, yun din talaga’ng
isasagot ko, sasabihin ko ring,
di kami puwede dahil kaibigan
ko lang siya.”
So there!
And speaking of Himig
at Marion Aunor. Sa huli linked
si Michael, kay Marion nga, but
Marion herself told us na wala
silang relasyon ni Michael. If
they are clicking as partners,
yun ay sa showbiz daw at never
sa true life. “Magkaibigan lang
talaga kami,” sabi pa ni Marion.
Angel Locsin, Vilma Santos
di magsasampalan
During the concert, nagduet silang dalawa at kinanta
nila yung Reason something
bilang tanda ng kanilang initial
partnership when they were
both promoted sa Kris TV
some months ago. After the
duet, kinanta ni Marion ang
Pumapag-ibig, another loser sa
Himig Handog.
Nag-duet din sina KZ Tandingan at Michael. Like Marion
song at talaga namang perfect
at iba pang porma. Di na raw
natutong mamihis si KZ gayung
kay tagal na niya sa showbiz. At
wala raw bang stylist si KZ na
marunong pumili kung ano ang
hitsura ng porma niya during
her shows.
Imagine na nakaputing
kasuotan si KZ na alanganing
toga na pang-graduation? Ano
raw ba yun?
Heto pa isang napansing
kagaspangan ng kanyang ugali.
Paulit-ulit niyang ipinamukha
kay Michael na libre lang siya at
walang bayad sa concert na yun.
Wala man kaming narinig na
backstage.
After the conert puna ng
maraming nahirapan daw
silang magpa-picture kay KZ
dahil sa rami ng mga alalay
niyang humawi sa mga tagahanga. Hitsura raw ng hawi boys
ni Randy Santiago sa rami ng
entourage ni KZ?

Bengzon furthered that the TMC network is currently composed of two other
hospitals and 20 outpatient clinics located
across Metro Manila and selected provinces.
“Now I am filled with pride because finally The Medical City in Clark affirms and
advances leadership position to build up the
largest operating network,” he stressed.
He furthered that with the addition of
the Clark site to TMC’s growing network of
health facilities, TMC strengthens its serious bid for prominence in national and international healthcare.
“TMC-Clark will serve as our flagship
center for Central and Northern Luzon. In
addition, being situated next to an international airport, the Clark location provides
an excellent platform for building our international customer base,” Bengzon added.
TMC-Clark started construction in December 2010.•

with Widus Hotel and Casino, he said the P2-billion
water theme park (Phase 1)
is expected to be completed
in 2017.
BBI officials are set to
submit on Dec. 19 the complete engineering details of
the theme park to CDC for
their approval.
“We have a legal obligation to finish the theme park
in 2017 because we deposited $500,000 to CDC. If we
fail to finish it on time, the
money will be forfeited,”
Alvaro said. This, he said,
is on top of the $5.5 million
that they paid in advance.
Alvaro said the detailed
engineering plan took time
before it was completed because of a lot of preparations
were made by the architects
like the measurement of the
soil component, as well as
water depth, among others.
He said the main archi-
tect of the water theme park
is Arch. Shyr-Fong Hu, a
master architect on urban
design who is also an architecture professor of Harvard
University in the USA, while
his local counterpart is
Arch. Jonathan Gan of Gan
and Associates in Manila.
Likewise, Alvaro said
the only five-star hotel to
rise in Clark is 80 percent
complete.
Midori Hotel Clark, according to Alvaro, will open
in Sept. 30 next year and it
will be the only five-star hotel to rise in Central Luzon.
“I already informed CDC
about the opening of Midori
Clark. Hopefully the hotel
will be complete before the
stated date, “Alvaro said.
Hotel Midori will have
110 luxury rooms, 19 suites,
and standard rooms that
will have minimum of 40
square-meters floor area
in a 2.4-hectare property,
while the water theme park
occupies 10 hectares.
Hotel Midori Clark sits
in a 2.4-hectare area located at the northwest section of the Freeport, beside
Fontana Hotsprings and
Leisure Resort. At present,
construction work at the
hotel now on a 24-hour basis.
“Clark is no longer just
about duty-free stores as
it was known before, but a
tourism destination,” Alavaro said during the forum.
Alvaro said he is confident that the market will be
good since “it is a fact that
40 percent of tourists visiting Hong Kong Disneyland
are Filipinos.”
“Now, there is no need
to go to Hong Kong because
the water theme park is
comparable to any place,”
he said.•

The vice governor said the LGUs
should act now about the siltation of
rivers and waterways to avoid problems on perennial flooding, water
borne diseases and inconveniences
of the affected families during calamities.
The vice governor said with the
free flowing of water in the river
channels and waterways, the farmers
would benefit from it as they could
utilize it for the irrigation of their
farmlands.
“Let us bring back the old glory of
our rivers that can be enjoyed by the
small fishermen and the residents
who want to use it as means of transportation through the use of boats,”
the vice governor said.
He said the provincial government is very much willing to lend its
newly purchased backhoes and other
desilting equipment to the LGUs on a

to immediately schedule the use of
our equipment),” he told the mayors
and barangay officials who attended
the briefing and updates on Disaster
Preparedness and Climate Change
for Barangay Officials recently as
part of the 443rd Aldo Ning Kapampangan celebrations.
Recently, Sto. Tomas Mayor Lito
Naguit entered into a partnership
with the Capitol on the desilting operations done along the Federosa
River in his town.
“The Federosa River which is part
of the Third River has been silted for
so many years, but with our partnership with the Capitol, the water here
is now free flowing and as it was also
cleared from hyacinth,” Naguit said.
The mayor said the Capitol has
provided backhoe equipment while
the municipal government provided
the fuel as counterpart.
Mayor Naguit said the sharing
agreement between the Capitol and
LGU of Sto. Tomas is a big help for
the municipality.
“Now, with less flooding, Sto. Tomas will become more investmentfriendly. Businessmen are now venti-
lating their interest to invest and try
the town for their business,” Naguit
said.
“Kaya malaki ang pasasalamat
namin kay Governor, Vice Gov Delta,
sa PDRRMC sa pagpapahiram nila
ng mga gamit para mahukay naming
ang Federosa River,” the mayor said.
Minalin Mayor Edgardo Flores,
whose town is perennially visited by
floods, said Minaleños are thankful
to the Governor and the vice governor for their generosity in providing
equipment for the desilting of the
river and waterways in the municipality as many of their villages now
are flood-free.
Guagua Mayor Dante Torres disclosed that for more than 20 years,
the San Jose creek in Barangay Natividad going to Betis remained silted
resulting to perennial floods in various communities.
“But now, with e the open-handedness of our provincial government
led by Governor Pineda and Vice
Governor Delta and Angie Blanco of
the PDRRMO, we will no longer experience what we had experienced
from the past years especially during
rainy season,” Torres said.•

seeks to increase the old age pension by P1,000 annually until it
reaches P10,000.
According to PVAO statistics, as of August 2014, there are
36,281 living World War II and
Post-War veterans and an estimated 140,000 legal dependents.
Meanwhile, the Provincial
Government of Bataan, since the
time of then Governor now 2nd

It could be recalled that last year,
Olongapo has been placed under a
state of calamity as monsoon rains
locally known as Habagat brought
widespread floods considered as
the worst in history of the city.
Floodwaters went up to neckdeep in most areas, forcing massive rescue operations, while others took the risk and went up to
roofs of their houses to safety.
There were only few areas particularly on mountain side of Barangay Gordon Heights, Mabayuhan and East Bajac Bajac which
have been spared from flooding.
Two weeks later, the Department of Health declared an outbreak of the deadly leptospirosis
virus affecting 210 residents with
six deaths in a span of 48 hours.
Department of Health regional
director Dr. Leonita P. Gorgolon
declared the outbreak after government epidemiologists completed its investigation on the causes
of the spread leptospira bacterium, which comes from the urine
of infected animals, usually rats.
The DoH inspection team visited the areas severely affected by
the recent massive flooding that
hit the city.
Paulino has implemented massive river dredging works to mitigate severe flooding in the city.•

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO “GREENeration in Central Luzon” - this
was the shared vision of the 158 youngsters who represented the region during
the first Northern and Central Luzon
Kalikasan Youth Leaders’ Congress of
Philippine Information Agency (PIA),
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Pilipinas
Natin, which was held in Baguio City.
The activity is still part of the standing nationwide advocacy agreement on
Climate Change between DENR and PIA
that has the thematic brand “Nagbabago
na ang Panahon, Panahon na para Magbago.”
“GREENeration follows a cycle,
which was crafted by the students themselves, consisting of information dissemination, capacity building, and call
to action,” PIA Regional Director William Beltran said.
Under information dissemination
are the conduct of forums, utilization
of local community radio stations, and
development of a regional website which
shall be a platform for sharing environmental issues, suggestions, recommendations and best practices.
Moreover, under capacity building is
the conduct of a Bayang Walang Iwanan
Central Luzon Leaders’ Camp where attendees would eventually become Kalikasan MensaHeroes in their school
and community otherwise known as PIA
and DENR’s development communication partners.
These MensaHeroes shall be aided
with information, education, and communication materials and trainings on
public speaking, creative writing, and
news writing.
“Among the call to action activities
the youngsters have proposed include
the adoption of the University Cleanliness and Discipline Policy (UGoGreen:
Universities Go Green), Kalinisan at
Kaayusan sa Barangay (KKB) which
adopts a barangay for a month wherein
they will hold people’s forum and turn
idle lands there into productive ones
otherwise known as PUNOan sa barangay, and the Power Tumbler project
which discourages the use of paper and

OLONGAPO CITY – This city
celebrated innovative craft, along
with beauty and natural wonders,
in the recent launching of “My City,
My SM, My Crafts” held at SM City
Olongapo.
The launch showcased locally
made products and the city’s coastline painted by white sand, sheltered coves and under water coral
reefs, a deepwater harbor, windswept mountains, and lush rain forests.
In a press statement, the event
is to celebrate Olongapo craftsmen’s ingenuity and artistry with
the launch of “My City, My SM, My
Crafts” at the 5th level Carpark of
SM City Olongapo, recently.
Once the site of a US Naval Base,
it is now a highly urbanized city.
Now home to the bustling Subic Bay
Freeport Zone and a new SM Mall,
it is also a place where one can find
innovative crafts that bring together indigenous and American influences.
A joint project of SM, The Philippine Star, DTI’s Bureau of Domestic Trade with support from CITEM
and NCCA; “My City, My SM, My
Crafts” celebrates the creativity and
innovative spirit of Filipino artisans
who fashion crafts from indigenous
materials.
It also highlights the many livelihood programs that make it possible to promote these crafts in the
national and international markets.

Tesda chief tagged ‘Mr. Trabaho’
By Butch Gunio
GABALDON, Nueva Ecija – Technical
Education and Skills
Development Authority
(Tesda) Region 3 Director Ted Gatchalian said
Director General Joel
Villanueva has earned
the moniker “Mr. Trabaho”.
“He
earned
the
moniker ‘Mr. Trabaho’
for the record-setting
achievement of Tesda
under his watch, registering the highest per-
centage of its graduates
who get employed,”
Gatchalian told the
crowd at the Nueva
Ecija University of Science and Technology,
who attended the distribution of vouchers
to benefitting schools
in the province for the
agency’s Training for
Work Scholarship Program recently.
Currently, about 7
out of 10 TESDA graduates get employed or
have started their own
livelihood. Even higher
is the percentage of
agency graduates who
get employed in the
semi-conductor sector.
President
Aquino
has publicly commended Villanueva for the
feat of record-setting
number of TESDA
graduates getting employed.
Gatchalian also described the Tesda chief
as a “team player”, being a former member
of basketball national
team.
