Page 3 United Township High School Counseling Quarterly Important Information No Child Left Behind and Seniors Applying to Four Year Colleges Highly Qualified Teachers Federal legislation requires us to notify our community, parents and students of the qualifications of our teaching and paraprofessional staff. The legislation requires that we have only “highly qualified” staff in place as of 2006. The legislation clearly sets forth the standards that define “highly qualified”. In short, it means that teachers are certified in the specific areas they are teaching and that paraprofessionals have at least sixty (60) credit hours of college work. A list of our current staff is available for review in our administration center. Seniors who are planning to attend a four-year college or university should be applying this fall. Getting accepted prior to the holiday break allows students and their parents to apply during the winter months for financial aid and ensures that housing will be more available than it will be for late applicants. Please contact your son or daughters counselor for details and or assistance. UTHS School Report Card and Budget The school report card is available at the UT web site http://uths.net/administration/uths-files/. You may request a printed copy of the report card by calling 752-1611. You may also view the 2014-2015 budget at http://uths.net/administration/business-office/ under Public Information Postings Have You Seen Your Student Planner Lately?? All students were provided with a student planner at the beginning of school. It has information about the school calendar, school rules and school phone numbers. It has sections with general information including a section on Study Skills!! There are monthly and daily calendar sections, which are ideal for assignments, either short-term or long-term. This can aid greatly in helping a student keep track of details and deadlines. It is also useful as a basis of communication with parents and school faculty and staff. Unfortunately this great tool seems to have been misplaced by some students. If your student needs a new planner, a limited number are available in the general office for $3.00 Do You Want to be a College Athlete? These are the requirements for Division 1 and 2 schools Graduate from High School A minimum GPA A qualifying ACT score Complete 16 core classes (Math, English, Science, Social Studies and additional electives)] To register for the NCCA Clearinghouse go to http:// www.eligibilitycenter.org/ After you have registered you must let Marcy Johnson the school registrar know you have signed up. She is located in the guidance office. For additional information go to: www.ncaa.org End of the Semester: As most of you know the semester is drawing to an end in the near future. We would like to persuade parents to stay on top of their student’s progress as the semester comes to a close. Sometimes students see the end and don’t always put forth their best effort. This then leads to a drop in grades. We encourage students to continue to put forth their best effort all the way through finals. In the long run this will be very beneficial to their academic careers.
