My name is Marcini Anak Minggu, a trainee teacher PIMSP Semester 4 At IPG
Campus Tun Hussein Onn. This semester, we are given to complete a project on
Technology in Teaching and Learning (EDU 3105). Through this project task, I have gained
a lot of new knowledge as these tasks are divided into different sub-project which is
producing a video clip and the web-based learning package. I found that this coursework is a
good way to help me as a trainee teacher to be prepared for the future and its technology.
This task enable me to use latest and free and open source software that can be used help
to me create teaching resources to educate the students in their learning in a new ways. As
a Teaching English as Second Language (TESL) trainee teacher, I am require to produce a
short video based on selected theme that can help students to acquire and understand a
certain topic in the English syllabus better.
The first task is required me to create a short video clip to help the students to learn
English better. The video should be adhered with the guidelines in minimum 3 minutes –
4minutes. First step is draft my video storyboard. The storyboard that I have chosen must
be suitable and is used as a guideline to create my short video. After that, I created the steps
and sequences to follow so that the video in order and flow of the scenes are synchronized.
Before that, I need to know what theme that I wanted to use to produce the video learning for
ESL students as well as community. In my video, I have chosen My Family to be used as a
material to produce the video learning. This video is intended to teach students to learn
singular and plural nouns. Moreover, I chose this theme to be used to produce my video as
the theme is familiar with the children. Family environment is very close to children because
they can feel the warm and love from the family. Next, the elements that should be included
in the storyboard are pictures of family, scene, and a script for each scene, time duration,
effect and audio used. I did my storyboard using Microsoft Words Software first then convert
it into PDF format. This is because the completed storyboard then needed to be included in
the webpage. At first, I did not know that we do not to create a storyboard but a script only.
Then, I decided to change the storyboard to video script for the video learning. I found that it
much easier than the storyboard.
And the format of the video should be compatible with the most of the video drivers
found in common computers and web- based video drivers. To make a good video, we need
to plan. Therefore to keep things organize and smooth, I have planned the video by writing
the video script. The video script is very essential as it keeps me alert of the storyline and
the duration of the different scene in the video. It is very beneficial if you stick to the plan and
start preparing the materials for the video, it can help to save time. While writing the video
script, a few steps must be taken such as the sequence, a short description, and estimate
time of take, scene and the text that will appear on screen to keep me alert while taking the

video. The title of my video is “My Family Vacation”. It is a short video clip that teaches the
students on a family vacation trip to an Amusement Park. I am making my video using
Powtoon software. Then, I used Windows Movie Maker to insert audio to the video and also
Windows Movie Maker is easier to use. I can treasure this software by my own without
asking for someone’s help. Therefore, I chose to use this software and it eased my works as
well. If I used something that I do not know how to use and need time to learn with other it
will waste my time which I can spend that time by doing something else. In the video, its
included lesson content, montage and at the ending for the credit roll. I have included my
credits to the people whom I want to thanks throughout the video making process. After
finish cutting the video and inserting the soundtracks, I finished it off by rendering the video.
After that, I need to insert the video into my webpage. I convert my video from AVI
format to FLV format so that the video did not take much space in the webpage. Then, I
transfer my video and all appropriate file into the server so that the video can be read by the
server. Next, I embedded the HTML code and paste it in the webpage using Kompozer. I felt
a sense of relief when I manage to post the video on my webpage. During the process of
making the short video, I have learned to be organized and systematic especially during the
video making process. It required a lot of patient. I am really proud that I am able to produce
a short video to help spreading the message to the world to educate young generations in
this world. I salute to their determination because making a video is such a challenging task
and need a lot of sacrifices. I hope by learning this, I can take more videos to help students
to learn the language better in future.
My second task is requires to produce a web-based learning package to help the
primary school students in their learning process. This task producing web-based learning
package needed relatively latest technology and knowledge where we need to include
various multimedia elements such as video, interactive exercises, graphic, animated graphic
and many more into the learning package. These multimedia elements can help to arouse
the students’ interest and make the learning process more effective through the virtual
learning. For the producing of this web- based learning package, I have used the free open
source software provided by Miss Sumitra Kan Fong Kuen such as the Hot Potatoes,
KompoZer, Core FTP Lite and etc. I was given a web address as a host so that I have the
authority and able to manage and edit the webpage by my own. From the class we have
attended that conducted by Miss Sumitra Kan Fong Kuen, we learn many free open source
software that can be used in producing this webpage. I was very glad that the classes that I
have attended have helped me a lot in producing the web-based learning package. In
addition to that, I have also look up for the tutorials made by Miss Sumitra to help us more
about the software.

I started this webpage project by selecting a suitable template that can to use for the
learning package. In my template, I have to link each page namely, the “Home”, “About me”,
“General Information”, “e-Learning”, “Video” and “Reflection” to one another in one webpage.
It is very important to link the pages as it will direct the students to look up for the correct and
accurate information on the page that they have selected. “Home” is where I link the users to
the main page of all the PISMP trainees of their shared work, “About me” where I briefly
describe about myself, “General Information” is where I tell the viewers or students about the
purpose of producing this webpage and I have also included a video script of my video, user
guide and about the learning content, “e-Learning” is where I have included the exercises or
activities that I have made by using Hot Potatoes and lastly the “Reflection” that I have used
to share my experience while creating the video and web-based learning package.
Hot Potatoes is a good software to be used to create our own exercises that is
virtually and in a new ways and it is enable we to provide students with different types type
of exercises and activities such as quiz, mix, match, cloze and crossword puzzle. One of the
problem that I have encountered while using the Hot Potatoes is that I am unfamiliar with this
software and took time for me the used it properly. Hot Potato is a software that enable
teachers to produce interesting activities and more students-centred learned to be more
focused and patient because patience is a virtue. KompoZer is software that combines the
web file management. It was very useful software that supports web page editing. The first
problem that I encounter is my template is cannot be publish correctly. After some time, I
realize that, all the folder of the template needed to be uploaded to the server. Sometimes, I
failed to publish the file into the webpage because I overlook the filenames. I did not realize
until I open each filenames to match it with the correct pages. I also get to know to that I
should not use punctuation characters or spaces for the filenames.
Another problem I encounter problems such as embedding the YouTube code into
my webpage. So I decided not to use YouTube HTML code to embed my video into my
webpage. I use other HTML code that is easier and only needed to insert the provided code
to my webpage. I have learned that to embed the video is needed the correct code by rightclicking the video to copy the embedded code and insert it into HTML code. Then, I am able
to post the video on my webpage. After editing and updating all my files, I have transferred it
through the Core FTP to update my page at website. Core FTP requires internet connection
in order to update those files into the webpage and it is also user friendly where files will be
updated by just transferring files between my computer and the remote FTP server.
From the experience completing this task, I found that the web-based learning is a
very interesting new way, suitable and manageable to all the students nowadays as it allows

the student to progress at their own pace. In this urban world, web-based learning is very
much important to students acquire all the information and knowledge in the tip of their
finger. The ability to work through the material at the student’s own pace is definitely a
dramatic advantage over traditional teaching methods. As a teacher, I must always update
myself with the knowledge of the latest technologies in a bid to produce future generations
with excellent global skills.
