Does the Library have my Textbook? 1. Begin at the library website: georgebrown.ca//llc 2. Type the title of your textbook into the Search Everything tab of the “Start your research” section and click GO. Not sure of the title? See your course handout for info. For this example, enter the title: Meggs history of graphic design Too many results? That can happen with a common title. Try adding the author’s last name (for this example): Megg history of graphic design Purvis 3. If you are off campus, enter your: Barcode: your student number (100…) PIN: the last 4 digits of your phone number *Having trouble logging in? Go to: georgebrown.ca/llc/services/access/ Books may be in eBook or PRINT format. In the list of results, the format of the book will be displayed to the left of each result. “Book” indicates books in print format, and “ebook” indicates books in electronic format (ie. Ebook). eBOOKS: For eBooks, underneath the book title, click on the links eBook Full Text or Connect to this Ebook to open. PRINT BOOKS: For print books, underneath the book title, click “Retrieve Catalog Item” to check the location of the book. Read on for more info about how to access your textbook! eBooks After clicking on one of the eBook links as described above, the ebook will load onto the screen. Use the directional arrows at the top or bottom of the screen to turn the page. Use the Table of Contents located in the left column menu to go to specific chapters or sections. Use the Search function at the top of the page to search for a specific keyword or phrase. Print Books After clicking on one of the Print Book links as described above, the catalogue record for that book will load onto the screen. Under the “Holdings” section, you can find information on where to find it in the library. In this example: Call Number: Z246 .M435 2006 Library: St. James Loan Type: Reserves book, Book, or 7-Day Loan Where to find it: Reserve Desk, or Stacks Write down the call number of the book and head to the appropriate section of the library: For the library location “Reserve” go to the “Circulation or Reference Desk”. The loan period for these kinds of books can be for up to 3 hours. For the library location “Reference” go to the “Reference Section”. There is no loan period for these kinds of books, which can be used in the library, but cannot leave the library. For the library location “Stacks” go to the “Book Stacks Section”. The loan period for these kinds of books can be 1, 3, 7, or 14 days. Begin by looking for the first two letters (books are categorized AA, AB, AC… to ZX, ZY, ZZ). Then use the numbers and letters that follow to find the book. If you need help, ask a librarian at the reference desk. TO CHECK OUT A PRINT BOOK: Take your student card and the book to the Circulation/Checkout Desk and sign it out, or use the Self-Checkout station near the circulation desk to sign it out on your own.
