ACU will provide evidence of students’ enrolment to PsyBA prior to the beginning of the semester. Applications for registration can take up to two months to process. Students may not begin their first clinical placement until they have provided evidence of registration to the Placement Co-ordinator. Applications can be accessed on the PsyBA website http://www.psychologyboard.gov.au/. It is the responsibility of students to obtain and fill in the appropriate forms. Police Check As part of the postgraduate programs, students undertake field placements in agencies such as family welfare centres, court clinics, hospitals, schools, centres for homeless youth and so on. Most agencies require a police check and clearance of anyone working in any capacity in that agency. Such a procedure protects the agency, the clients, and those undertaking the practicum. Some organizations may require an additional check, over and above the ordinary police check. New legislation may also require additional checks as mandated by that legislation. All information is confidential and remains with the Postgraduate Programs Coordinator. Students who do not wish to have a police check will not have to do so, but may have a limited choice of placements and/or meet some difficulties in completing the practicum requirements. Please return relevant forms to the Postgraduate Programs Coordinator. Working with Children Check Similarly there is a requirement for a second check to do with working with Children. Under the Working with Children legislation, people engaging in ‘child-related work’ must apply for authorization. Students in Victoria require a Working with Children (WWC) Check. The Working with Children (WWC) Check applies to work that is in connection with the services, bodies, places or activities. The information regarding this check is at the following website: http://www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren/home/applications/the+application+process/ . Students in Queensland require the equivalent Blue Card.
