This ~s the story of a datu in a place that was happy and joyful. The datu, however, was not happy; in fact, he was miserable, and ail because he had no wife. He wanted to be married and had already looked among all the maidens of his place, yet none of them appealed to him .All he
could think of was his desi r e to be married and of not being able to find a mate.
One night riotouS laughter was heard coming from the interior. It seemed to be : the laughter of two maidens.
Everyone was curious as to who they were and why tbey · were laughing so uproariously.
The datu said to his servants, "Please go and see the on !t
s who are la,ughing and find out ' what in the world they are laughing about."
Off went the se r vants to investigate. They crept up anc ; l ' saw that there were indeed two maidens h i lari q us l y laug h in~ and heard that this laughter was in response to their ideas about the types of men they might mar r y.
The older girl said to he t younger sister, "As for me, I want a datu~ How about you? What do you want for a hus · band?"
· 68 '.
' When the younger girl answered, she said, "It really doesn't / matter so long as he is a good person, , one who knows how to treat peop.le right."
The maidens then ceased talking and went home. The servants also l~ft, going quickly to report to the datu
\ about the maidens anq their laughter.
After ' that, every seven nights the maidens were heard laughing ; and th~ datu would ~end his servants to opserve.

The datu listened, and then asked, "Is this girl beautiful, this young one?"

They answered , , "Oh, this young on .

"I ha~e just found ~r if she is indeed like thatt" exclaimed the excited datu.
Whereupon he quickly g9t r;eady and proceeded to the place of those girls. He wanted this one for his wife.
When he arrived at their place he called out to be invited up and into the house~ The . girls peeked out and offered him a seat. After he was seate~, they seated

·
When they heard his desire the young one became tong .

· The elated datu exclamined, "Since YO!J will have me,
I now want to take you with me, and your sister also. So i f you have indeed agreed, get ready."
"We did agree and will indeed follow yot1," the · young one replied • .
The girls went about getting re-ady. They collected thei~ tj11ngs and then followed the datu to his home.
Not long after their arrival at the datu's place ~ council was called to hear about the situation. When the council heard the datu's de~ire they .
~greed to finalize the marriage. All the people gathered and the wedding took place right away. The ~ newlyweds then settled in that place.
About a year later it became apparent that there would soon be a child. Seeing his wife's condition, the dat\,1 began. to remember and dream about the words she had uttered before he had known her, when she . ~d said that H

. The poor thing had been living and growing inside that box.
The old woman gazed at the infant, who was squinting up at her, . then said, "I am very fortunate to have this delectable child." She then gathered him up in her arms.
The brightness was bothering ~s eyes , as he had nev~r seen light _ before. When she picked him up he puckered up his face as if . to cry. "Don't · be afraid of me, I'm not dangerous, and _ . now in good hands," she murmmered.

· She then asked, "Are you not hungry?" ·
The baby answered, "I am not hungry and I'm n.Ot
. accustomed to eating."
"Eh," said the old one, "You have never eaten? And y'ou . mean to sa>: that you won't eat? Don't be like that as · all people here on .
the earth need to eat. You must ~at. I will feed
you whatever you want and since you have not been claimed by the one . who gave you birth I will · claim you.; I will be your parent." old · woman paid no attention to ' the child's lack ·' of desire to eat and proceeded to fix him rice and eggs.
She then even had to help him eat, as despit .

'nte child saw no other people since the time he had · been rescued, so he ' felt there were no others. He th.oU$ht she was his only relative.
Ti1e old woman faithfully cared for the chlld and he grew into a fine young boy.
One day she said to him, "Child, you are quite large
· now and can understand what is not good. I ha:ve been with you .
all this time, but now I badly need to go for food.
You stay here and care for our house. Be sure you don't go wandering about because there are dangers on the other side. Be very sure you don't ~o because there are giants over there · and their leader is a giant. You know that giants eat peo .
ple. There are other dangers also out there, like lion~. If you wandered they might eat you, so be sure you do not go." After all that advice she shut up the house and left the boy locked inside. From the porch s~e called, . "I'~ going now, chlld," and off she flew. He had no idea where she was going as he · .
watched her fly out of sight.
Chapter 3
Now pondered the boy, "mty in the world are you so against my going to the other side? What could possibly be so dangerous there? I want to go S?d see · ." He then got up, untied the door and did indeed go off to that place.
: The first thing he met when he arrived there was a lion. "Aba, what's this?' : questioned the lion. "We are hungry here, friend, and even thongh it is the first time we have seen anything like you we will eat you. Other

74 lions then closed in to taste a bit with their tongues.
But what faces they made, as the taste was very bitter.
"You are not good to eat~" they sputtered.
The agressive behavior of the lions didn't bother the boy. He wasn't bothered by their licking and tasting.
He jus~ kept • going, passing many other man eaters who , also tasted him with their tongues. They, too, made faces over the taste, saying, "You are not go,od to eat, you're not the kind of p~rson that's good to eat." Even the giants reacted that way.
~ The boy kept on until fie reached the chief giant.
When he got there the · chief giant exclaimed, "Aha, he rEf you are~ It ' s been a long time since your companion has · been here. You see, I have known about you ever since she
. fotmd you. And now it is good that you have come so that I can inform you about that old oQe you have been living with. She is the leader of the man eaters, child. And she
· plans to eat you once she gets you large · enough. Now don't you ever ~orget what I'm telling you: she is just fattening you up. She will be back in seven nights, and child, if she didn't find anything to eat, perhaps she will eat · you."
The boy wasn't worried about this news. But since the old one was not due home for a few days he stayed among the giants.
When it was nearly tlme , for the old one's retu_rn he took his leave of the chief giant aod went home.
At the old one's house the boy rapidly un tied the door and got in. He .
then quickly tied it up again · and pretended to be sleeping.
In a v ery short time t~e sucking noises of the old one could be heard and then she called out, "Jump down here please, as I'm overloaded."
He jumped down and she was indeed overloaded with large and small things o~ man~ varieties. There were pigs, chickens, fish and also some sor t ot' human.
"Aba, Grandma, this is indeed a lot of food that you have brought here."
"Thus, child, I had you jump _ down to help with it all," she answered. Now the boy was no longer a little fellow; he was at the age of one who begins to wear trousers, a young teenager.
The old one climbed into the house and rested. Later she collected all she had brought and coo · ked it. She coo ked it all at onfi! time in a frying pan and then
.· ate it all at one time~ It caused her to breathe hard and to · feel stuffed. She i:.
i Hone · ha · d ··· eaten ·everything she had gathered~
After all that eating the ~ old ' one just rested, and while resting, said to the boy, · "You didn't go to the other side, did you?"
He responded , "Why in the world would I go there,
Grandma, when you said not to go because of all the dangers in that place?"
"That is · a good child. It is good to follow the advice given you. I won't give you .
permission to go there
76 because it is indeed a very dangerous . place," said the old woman. "I will be going again • child, seven nights ' from now.
Seven nights later she informed the boy · that she would be gone for three sets of seven nights or three weeks and warned, "Be ve ry sure you don't wander offt"
The boy answered, "l'here, now, don't you worry about how long you'll be away as no matter how · long you're gone,
I , ll be here.
~ · But he was thinking, "If you will be gone that long, I'll also go , I will return to the chief giant."
Thus the old one left, and just as she was out o f sight, the boy also left. He · didn 1 t bother to shut the windows or the 9oor, he just left and went to the chief giant.
The giant understood what had happened and how eagerly the boy h~d returned and therefore he blessed the boy. In fact, the giant · m~de the · boy his own because he cared so much for him. He . then explained to the boy, "That is the way of that old one, child. That is the way she eats, and if she doesn't get all that stuff, you, child, the one she lives with, are tlfe one she 1 11 eat. I'm telling you this so you can be thinking about What you will do, whether you wi!l leave her or stay.
~at I really want you to do, child, is to leave her; that would be following my advice."
' TI'!e boy answered, "I understand, and since it's like that I will indeed get out • "
, I
"S:I.nce you plan to follow · my advice," said ~he giant,
"I'll give you these clothes. They will sometimes be ' too
· large and will sometimes make _ you smelly, but when you leave ' her be sure to wear . them." He also gave the boy some
. \ lim.e, a needle ; and a horse named Sombo).ani. The horse was magic and could fly. "Here is a · needle for you to use to kill that old one when she c hases you. You
~ust allow her to get near and then drop the · needle and lime on her, but now you must go," said the giant.
The boy put on his new clothes, mounted his horse, and took l~ave of the giant.
· He then ' sprang his horse into the . sky and flew out of sight. a.pa:er 4
Meanwhile that " old one returned just · as she had promised, having been away three . weeks. She reached the foot of the ladder and called out, "Wan, are . you there?"
/ Of CQUrse ther:e was no answer. Thus she sped up , the ladder and looked around; but the boy was not inside. · The windows were all opened, as was the door, but the boy · was gone :
The old one said, "You are definitely not here, you have indeed gone." She returned to the ground and gazed off into the sky • "There you are~"
.
. sight of him off in the distance. "But never mind, even though ' you have gone, I' 11 get you, but first I' 11 eat."
The old one went back _ up
' into · the house and ate, after which she returned to th~ ground and took off. She
flew and flew, gradually catching up to the boy.
The boy wat~hed her getting closer, and when she was
I under him, he dropped the needle . It hit her in th ' e eye.
He then dropped the lime, which blinded her. Not long after that, she fell.
He then carefully landed his horse, and once on the ground, saw the house-of .
a sultan . It ' was evening, so he
' cautiously approached the house a ' fter tying his horse ol\t of sight . Near the hous~ he saw a young girl watering the flowers.
"Ho there, Wan," he called · out, "Is i t okay for me to ask you who con tr ols this place?"
She answered, "The one in control here . is my father."
He spo~ again, saying, "I have arrived and am looking for work so I can eat. If you wHl, would you please tell your father that I want to be'g work from him."
"Just wait here and I'll go ask Fathe r ," she , replied.
Quickly she mounted _ sta~rs and went to her father, saying, "Father, there is a person outside. I don't know what kind of a person he is but he asked me who was in charge here. I told him you were and he asked me to come to you and tell you that he wants to beg work."
Her father · said,
,
.. "Well _ , tell him to come up r
Now when that fellow was invited up he only got as far as the head of the stairs. His smell reached the su ' ltan, who exclaimed, "What is that smell, child? Ho,
I'
child, what is it?" Now of course it was the poor fe1low.
The sultan then said to his daughter, "Don't let it come any closer. Give him work but take .
him down to stay under the house. He can work piling up ~h~ fallen fronds there in our coconut grove and can begin work tomorrow."
The poor fellow was shown by the daughter where he was to stay there under the house, in fact under the chicken roost, and · was told, "tomorrow morning Father said you could begin work. Your work will be piling up the fallen coconut fronds." The poor fellow was really in a fix now.
The next morning he went off into the coconuts to clean things up and that ?ight he slept there where he was told to sleep.
Day after day he worked, piling up the fallen coconut fronds in the sultan's coconut groves and sleeping there under the chickens •
. Now one night there under the chicken roost he must
I have felt hot, as he took off his smelly clothes. Once
• they were off ' the star on h[s forehead and · the moon on . his chest really shone.
The , Young girl, the sultan's youngest daughter, was looking out of a · window and was suddenly startled to see the brightness coming from the chicken roost ~ She looked closer and saw that fellow, the smelly one, shining. "So this is the kind of person Father has, one who knows how to change appearances~ It is not good that he should be working like he is," she thought.
80
While she was watching, the light was suddenly cut
. off and she figured he had replaced his clothes. From that time on her mind was always occupied with thoughts of this fellow. She never forgot how he had shone.
Now this poor fellow worked and lived that way for a long time.
One day he overheard the sultan call his daughters and say to them, "I'm old now and · want to see you settled whi).e I'm still living. I wan t you to point out the fellows you want to marry so I can arrange things for you to have ' what you will need .
"
Neighboring fellows soon heard about the sultan's desire .
and came .
around. Then fellows from other areas heard and they also came around , hoping that .
the girls woqlcl look favorably upon them .
One an d then anot h er of t he fell o ws came to the sultan asking fo r his daughters.
The sulta n again called his daughters to him and ·
'
'
· asked them which of the fellows showi n g interest and asking for them did they want.
The two older girls pointed out the ones they wanted.
Their father, the sultan said, "Good, now I want to arrange your weddings. Send the fellows to inform their parents."
The fellows went to their parents and things were soon arranged for the weddings.
The youngest daughter had remained silent during this time; she didn't join into things like her sisters had.
Therefore her father asked her specifically who she wan ted', and st i 11 she dido' t speak.
Her father then exclaimed, "What's this? There have been fellows aski"9g for you; don ' ' t you like any of them?
Who do you want to marry? Answer met Point him out to met
Who · do you want to marry?"
Now since her father insisted, the maiden pointed ' to the one she ' wanted. Where did she point? There to the one her father had sent to stay under the chicken roost~
"What, that is what you want to marry? What can I say? That is what you want~ Get down there and get him out of here. And make yourselves a place ~way out there. And furthermore, don 1 t ever come back up here~·· yelled her father in his anger .
Thus the poor little princess was tbrown out by her father and went down to the fellow living there under the house.
When she reached him she was crying • . "What 1 s this?
Why are you cryil'!-g?" he asked.
She answered, "It is so"hard to knowwhat to say. I'm
, crying because Father ,_ has thrown me out' . He wanted us, his daughters, t o point o ut to him the fellows we wan~ed to marry while he was still living. So he r e I am and I don't know how to tell you, but I pointed to _ you are the one I wanted. And I'm crying because Father was angry when he realized I wanted you and threw me out and you too. He d .
oesn 1 t want us near him. If you understand, let's leave this place."
/
82
"Wow, so ' it's like that; you care about me~" He exclaimed, "Let's go indeed~"
And so they left and went deep into the coconut groves where the sultan had ordered them to go apd made a small house.
There they stayed and had a harq time making a living. Yet they didn't return to the house of the girl's father.
Om p t: e r S
Meanwhile, the old sultan couldn't think of anything but his yo~gest daughter . He was always thinking of ~er
· and felt badly that he had not treated her as he had the others. He had helped · them to live comfortably but had done nothing for his you n gest. Yet that husband of hers was a real disappointment to him . _ His daughter had insisted on having that one , and that , at least, he had not refused her.
It wasn't long before the sultan became sick. He was very sick, had no desire to eat, and · couldn't get
'
/ comfortable in any position.
It was with real diffic .
ulty that he even spoke, but he called his two sons-in-law and said to them, "I tell you, the only medicine for this sickness of mine · is lion milk. You should get it right away, because if you don't,
I' il probably die." .
83
The situation was ser~ous, and so, even though ~hey had all been avoiding their smelly brothe , r-in-law, they now went to him. They informed him that the sultan was critically ill and had said that the only medicine was lion milk and that he needed it immediately. Lion milk
~s only available a long ways off but somehow or other they . had to get it and .
get it right away.
The s~elly fellow spoke up, saying, "Why in the world have you come to me, friends, when we have been banished to this lonely place? But never mind all that, I ' l l go with you."
"Since you' 11 come along, here is a horse . you can ride," they said. Now this horse was a sad specimen; it was extremely skinny and staggered from side to side on
' account of being so malnourished. But they gav .
e it to him and went on ahead. Once they were out of sight, they sa .
id to each other, "What . use do we have for that fellow, now that he is coming?"
The smelly one watched as they moved out of sight and then called to his wife, tel!ing her where he was going, and left . He went off quickly for his flying horse and there left his smelly clothes along with the sickly horse.
He leaped onto his flying ho r se, entered the sky, and flew quickly to the house of the old one where he had grown up.
When he reached her place, he hurried to tie his horse and enter the house. Once he was in the ho1,15e, he pretended to be just l:aying around as if in his own home.
'·
84
It was about noon when he realized that his brothers-in-law we~e approaching. They quickly tied their horses and called out, "What kind of a person is here at
' th:l.s house?''
He acted ' the part of one coming out of his own home and said to them, "I am the one of this place. What is your purpose here?"
The eyes of the two bulged when they saw him. It was the first time they had ever seen anything li"ke it. His clothes shone, as did the star on his forehead and the moon on his chest.
As they were staring, they stammered, "We have come
· here to beg for some milk from your lions."
He said, .
"There is indeed lion milk here, but it is dangerous to get. · Lions eat peo · ple. However, i f you will agree to my proposition, I will get the milk for you."
"What is your propo .
sit ion?" asked the two •
. / "My proposition is like this: before I wili agree to getting the lion milk for yQu, you must carry my mark. I will put this mark upon your backs with a hot iron," answered the one with the star on his forehead ana the moon on his chest.
The two poor fellows replied, "If that is what is
· . required, we will submit , as it would be worse i f we did not return with the milk. The sultan may die if he is not medicined with it."
He put an iron into the embers to heat and ordered the two .
, saying, "Take ' off your shi , rts, because I will now put my mark upon you.
The two poor fellows removed their shirts, exposed their backs, and were marked. After they were marked with that iron , froin the embe r s they were told, "Wait here a bit while . I go to get milk from the lions out there."
He ~nt out to the lions,. got the milk from them, and put it in a sma ll bottle. He then returned to the two, handed them the milk, and said, "Go home now • .
Once t hey had the lion m i lk the two hurried away~ · racing their horses for home. They were very happy and thought they wer .
e ' the first t o ever get lion milk.
Now this one with the star on his fore~ead and the moon on his chest waited until the two · were just out ' of
-
,\ horse, leaped on, entered · the sky, and headed back to where he'd l eft the scrawny horse. There he quickly
' mounted that poor horse and p retended to be just following along . after the others.
The two soon appeared and called out , "What's this?
~re you just on your way? Do you think you'll ever get there at that pace , limping along like that? You might as well give up and return home now, because we have already
, been there and have gotten the lion milk _ ."
The poor smelly one just turned and returned to his place as if he really Qad only been limping along behind them.
86
The two continued on and soon arrived at their father-:-in-law's place. The sultan asked, .. · What's this, are you back already? Where is that companion of yours .
?"
'
.
It · was a job the three should have done together.
The two answered, "We just saw him there on the trail but told · him to go on home since we ha cl already gotten the milk you requested. He , · is probably at his piace by · now."
'
They then gave the lion milk to · their father-in-law.
"Thanks for getting this, and now help me to drink
.,, it," said the sultan. They helped and immediately the sickness · left him.
The svltan again called his children t~gether and
, said, "I' .
m well now after that sickness, but ~m feeling very old. Thetetore, I wan t to call every ?
ne toge, ther and pass on to one of my children this title of mine.
However, it should be that the one who bestowed the title
, on me be the one to take it and b~stow 'it ori the one I choose. Therefore you should go to the other side and tell th~t one to come." Again the . poor tWo fellows set out.
They stopped by to inform · their smelly brother-in-law, saying, "OUr father-in-law is now well but says that we must go . again to the other side, and this time we must get the one who bestow titles." They continued, saying, "Our
· father-in-law plans to call everyone together and make a big ceremony of handing over this title of his to ~ one of us. However, .
he wants the one from the other side to actually hand over the title, as he was the one to bestow it originally."
87
, I
The smelly one answered, "Since it is like that, I won't follow you to get that one. Instead, I will go to get : my
~elatives.
· I do · indeed have relatives and now need to go and see what has become of them."
The two went on alone.
The smelly one said to his wife, "I must go again, love, because of what is about
~o happen. I want · my relatives to sit with the others at your father's presentation ceremony. I'll have to leave you again, but I won't be gone long. Nevertheless, befo
.
re I leave I' 11 call into existence a house of gold for you to stay in." At that, he brought forth his magic stone and spoke to it, saying, · "I believe you are indeed magic, so put a golden house right here." Immediately a golden house appeared and deep there in the sultan's coconut grove it became very bright .
"Here is where I will leave you," he said to his Wife as he hugged her. "Now, love;
I have to go, but you will be comfortable here in our house." He then removed his s melly clothes, letting the star and moon on his body shine.
His wife's eyes widened as she looked at her husband.
She thought, "You were inde e d the one I saw shining there under that· chicken roost of ours.
Her husband went down, mounted his flying horse, entered the sky, and flew off to his father's place.

He reached his father's land, tied up hi · s , horse and walked on toward the house. As he reached the house he glanced underneath it and saw there a woman in a cage.
That woman was in pitiful c9ndition: he ~ hair was matted, and all her ribs were showing. She was terribly thin.
He went directly up into the house and was met at the to ' p of the stairs by a woman. Their eyes met and the woman's eyes widened. "Whew~" she th~ught,
' 1 This fellow is like that baby I drowned · i-n the river."
The fellow also realized when he saw this one that . she was his aunt, the one who had done the evil to him.
The woman just stared and then, trying to think of something to say, asked where he was from.
I
He answe r ed · , "I don't know which place to point out as my homeland. But I'll . tell you once that it should have
,' been this place."
Now sh~ knew that this was indeed her nephew, the one she had drowned. She was afraid, wondering how in the world he could still be alive, and madly tried to think of a way to kill ' him now. She decided to offer him poisoned food and thus ~aid, "We don't have anything to offer you but food · ... At that . she wet!t off to the kitchen. Th.ere she fixed up some poisoned food and brought it back to him.
The food she brought for him looked good but as he watched he noticed that whenever a fly flew over that food it ' dropped dead just from the smell of the poison.
89
Nevertheless, fie pretended ' to go to the food as · if to eat. However, he then exclaimed, "I don't eat food ltke this~" and flung it out on the ground.
The animals there in the yard rushed for the · food, ate, immediately went intc;> spasams, and died. The · y had eaten the poison intended for him.
His aunt realized she was caught and made haste to get away. She was very much afra~d now.
When he realized tha·t she had run off he turned to a servant and said, "Where is your datu? He is the one 'I want to see."
The servant went .
straight to the datu and said,
' ,
"There is a person here like none I have ever se · en before.
, This person has a star on his forehead and a moon on his chest~
And he says you should come because he wants to talk to you• That is why I have come for you."
The datu sp~ung to his · feet at this news and
~nt
. straight to . the visitor. His eyes · ~bout popped from his head, as !ndeed, this visitor was jilst as the servant had described. The datu thought about his wife's pr9phecy and
, thought that i f it had beeh ' real, his child might look like this one. However, he collected his wits, asked the visitor who he was, and where he · was from.
Again the visitor · spoke, saying, "I : don't know which
. place to point out; as my · home. But I" 11 tell you once that it · should have been here at your place because I shbuld be · one of you. Things have happened, but evep now you recognize me because I am your child. It happened tha , t

. when Mother gave birth that aunt of mil'l.e quickly replaGed me with a . pup and · then told you that Mother had given birth to a dog. That aunt of mine had rushed ~round, put me into an iron box, and deposit ed me in the river."
The datu eagerly embraced his · child, saying to him,
"That's why I asked where you were from, because a soon as
I saw you ~ .
thought of that desire of your mother's to have a son with a star on . the forehead and a moon on the chest. And · how thankful I am that you have returned to us."
They flnally ceased embracing and the datu said, "So that was how things happened. I was indeed very perplexed as to how in the world a person could give birth to a dog.
That is why I made a cage for your ~~ther and it is why I have become , so thin. It is all because I was so upset thinking about that childbirth." As he finished speaking he got his sword and . called his sister-in-law.
Ho~ever, the sister-in-law was not there. Servants were ' sent to search for her. She was soon found and forced back. The seryants called out that they ha~ her and she hesitantly and pitifully crept up · to the datu.
The d ' atu , lifted his sword and started to swing at her. He was furious over what she had done and would have killed ber.
However, his son called out and stopped him, saying,
"Never mind, Father, I know what to do to her."
The datu hesit, ated, still trembling with rage, and madenot a sound. "Not · yet, Father," spoke the son. "I am
91 going to get Mother first." At that, he quickly wen · t down and reaoved his mother from the cage.
He got his moth~r and _ embraced her a long while before .
saying through his tears, "I've come for you,
Mother ,because it's been a long time since I've seen you."
His mother responded the same way, and said, "You, love · , are indeed my child."
"Come, Mother, we must now go up to Fath~r," he said.
They went up and stood before the datu. The son th~n turn~d on · his aunt, saying, "Look at the condition of my . mother. She doesn't even look like a person and it~s all · because of you. But now it is your turn to , suffer." He got his aunt , made small cuts all over her Jx>dy and rubbed her down with salt, saying, "There, that ' s your punishment.

His mother spoke up' saying' "I won It have a husband . who doe
1 sntt know how to pity his .nate."
Her husband . just looked down. He knew he hadn't treated her well and had no excuses to give.
92
Their child, however, broke the silence, saying, "! don't .. want you to be like ' that, Mother. We are just people

. here on this earth and aren't perfect in our ways or thoughts • . Please for~ive Father for what he's done to you.
'
And you, Father~ . forgive me for thus sp · eaking, but please ask ~orgiveness of Mother."
The datu went to h i s ' wife and did beg her fo~givene~s. saying he'd never be like that again, and thaf hi , s , actions hadn't been premeditate 1 d • . He sai~, "You are over me now and can do whatever you · want to me because
I did ind , eed sin against you."
His · wife answetTed, , "If it weren't for . our child, who

The datu didn't sp eak at first; he just took his wife

wife didn ' t make a sound.
Their child, realizing that all was well ; between his parents, again invited them to go with him, saying, "Come n()w, Father, .
Mother, we mUst get there in time for my father-in-law's meeting." He then got his magic stone and
~_,
