The Segal Centre for Performing Arts is proud to present GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS BY DAVID MAMET DIRECTED BY PAUL FLICKER 16 30 MAR MAR DAVID MAMET Montreal, February 19 , 2014 – The Segal Centre is proud to present a limited engagement of David Mamet’s powerful Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Glengarry Glen Ross, directed by Segal Centre Artistic Producer Paul Flicker, from March 16th – 30th, 2014. PAUL FLICKER th Lies, bribery, manipulation. A group of real estate agents are prepared to do just about anything to stay at the top of their game in David Mamet’s masterpiece of American drama. Close the deal – you’re a winner. Blow the deal – lose it all. Drawing on playwright David Mamet’s own experience working in a real estate office in his native Chicago in the 1960s, Glengarry Glen Ross chronicles two days in the life of four desperate salesmen trying to make a living by pushing plots of undesirable land to unwitting prospective buyers. When a high-stakes contest pits the men against each other, just how far will they go to close the deal? Mamet’s brilliant dark comedy is packed with memorable lines and scintillating rapid-fire dialogue that will have audiences at the edge of their seats. Directorial Debut Artistic Producer of the Segal Centre, Paul Flicker, makes his directorial debut with this contemporary classic: “I am delighted to make my first steps as a director with David Mamet’s incredible text. Glengarry Glen Ross was written at the height of Mamet’s dramatic and literary power and remains as completely mesmerizing and relevant as when it was first performed in 1983.” Mamet’s World A scorching examination of Reagan-Era capitalism and an unflinching look at the American dream, Glengarry Glen Ross was awarded the 1984 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. The hit-play was turned to the 1992 cult film, with Mamet’s own script, starring Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Alan Arkin. “Mamet is best-known for a distinctive writing style and explosive, and often vulgar, dialogue, commonly referred to as “Mametspeak.” A candid and powerful voice, Mamet challenges his audiences with spare and gritty works that explore the key cultural and political issues of our time,” adds Flicker. An Exceptional Ensemble Montreal theatre-goers will have the rare opportunity to see a significant work by one of America’s foremost living playwrights brought to life by a dazzling collection of actors. Leading Canadian film, television and stage actor R.H. Thomson (Harvey, Same Time, Next Year) returns to the Segal stage as aging salesman Shelley “The Machine” Levene. He is joined by Brett Watson as smooth-talking Ricky Roma, Daniel Lillford as big-mouthed Dave Moss, Michel Perron as the hapless George Aaronow, Graham Cuthbertson as the office manager, John Williamson, Mike Paterson as James Lingk and Tristan D. Lalla as detective Baylen. A SEGAL CENTRE PRODUCTION PRESENTED BY FOR TWO WEEKS ONLY STARRING R.H. THOMSON SHELLY LEVENE GRAHAM CUTHBERTSON JOHN WILLIAMSON TRISTAN D.
