Dear Friends of the Foundation,
After completing a successful New Hospital Campaign and raising over $28 million to date, the Foundation has
been hard at work on its Annual Giving Campaign. The hospital’s Capital Approval Committee recommended
over $1 million worth of equipment needs for 2007-2009. It is important to note that dollars raised by the
Foundation are disbursed for equipment only, not operational costs, for the Sault Area Hospital, Thessalon and
Matthews Memorial Hospital.
This year our focus was more on our Gift Planning Program and developed a “Building a Bridge to the Future”
Legacy Society. Donors that are members of this Society will be recognized for their deferred gifts, usually through
a bequest.
New to the Foundation this year, a committee was formed to start planning and implementation of donor
recognition activities in our new hospital. It is important that our current plaques on the Celebration of Life and
Beacon of Hope donor walls be brought with us to the new hospital.
Our existing Board members and staff would like to welcome our new Board members that started last year. We
recruited Terry Dunn from Community First, Dan Theriault from Meakin Forest Enterprises and Gabe Stefanizzi
from BDO Dunwoody. We appreciate your expertise and support.
We invite you to browse through the pages of this report as we reflect on how generous our community has been
over the past year. The Foundation appreciates the donations that the community has made, whether it be in
memory or in honour of someone, to our direct mail campaigns, to our Major Gifts Program, by attending events
such as Chilifest, purchasing “5 Car Draw” tickets, or being part of our Friends Forever Monthly Giving Program.
When you support your Hospital by being connected to your community and getting back to your roots, our
excellent staff, culture of excellence and modern technology and equipment, all help to provide good patient care.
Some people have asked if we are done fundraising since over $28 million has been raised. The answer to that
question simply is - our work is never done at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation – year after year there are
new equipment needs. In the years leading up to the New Hospital Campaign, the Foundation raised over
$9.6 million. Our patients are the ones that ultimately benefit from your generosity – THANK YOU!

to the Future
This year saw the official launch of our Gift
Planning Program and its “Building A Bridge to
the Future Legacy Society”. Donors participating
in our Gift Planning Program have a number of
giving options available to them including: gifts
of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, RRSPs, RRIFs, life
insurance and the most commonly used - making
a bequest in their will.
We are pleased to acknowledge the following

Donor recognition in our Annual Report is based
on the total amount of donations during a single
fiscal year while the donor recognition plaques that

Although construction of the new Sault Area Hospital is not complete, there are certain equipment

The SAHF’s Wedding Program
The 2007-2008 fiscal year saw the launch of our Wedding Program. The growing trend for many
Bride and Grooms-to-be is to forego the traditional wedding bonbonnieres in favour of making
a donation to a charity in honour of their guests. It’s simple, affordable and has lasting impact.
With a suggested minimum of $2 per guest, the Sault Area Hospital Foundation provides the happy couple with
gift acknowledgment cards they can present to their guests (see samples below). The cards can be modified to
reflect the bride and groom’s preferred wording and wedding decor.

Friends Forever Monthly Donor Program
We take great pleasure in presenting the 171 individuals and families who participated in our
Friends Forever Monthly Donor Program during the period of April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008.
Currently in its sixth year, we have seen a steady increase in the number of people who recognize
the need for this program and the value it brings to our hospital.
As much as the individual amounts vary, so do the reasons why our members participate:
• it’s more manageable because it’s spread out over time, making it easier on the budget;
• it’s cost effective by reducing administrative costs e.g., paper, postage, etc.;
• it provides convenient giving options such as pre-authorized payments, credit card or post-dated
cheques; and
• it’s a simple and easy way to make a lasting difference in our community.

Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Tribute Gift Program
The Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Tribute Gift Program provides donors with the opportunity to express
their joy, gratitude or sympathy by making a gift in honour or in memory of someone dear to them.
In Honour gifts are a wonderful way to celebrate a milestone or special moment such as the birth of a child,
a wedding, birthday, anniversary, graduation or any other happy occasion. It is also a great way to express
gratitude or pay tribute to a special someone you respect and admire.
In Memoriam gifts are often made by friends and family at funerals in lieu of flowers but, are also made
throughout the year in remembrance.
